    This is a tiled collection of the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) and is one meter resolution.     Description

    This is a 1 arc-second (approximately 30 m) resolution tiled collection of the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) seamless data products . 3DEP data serve as the elevation layer of The National Map, and provide basic elevation information for Earth science studies and mapping applications in the United States. Scientists and resource managers use 3DEP data for global change research, hydrologic modeling, resource monitoring, mapping and visualization, and many other applications. 3DEP data compose an elevation dataset that consists of seamless layers and a high resolution layer. Each of these layers consists of the best available raster elevation data of the conterminous United States, Alaska, Hawaii, territorial islands, Mexico and Canada. 3DEP data are updated continually as new data become available. Seamless 3DEP data are derived from diverse source data that are processed to a common coordinate system and unit of vertical measure. These data are distributed in geographic coordinates in units of decimal degrees, and in conformance with the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD 83). All elevation values are in meters and, over the conterminous United States, are referenced to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88). The vertical reference will vary in other areas. The elevations in these DEMs represent the topographic bare-earth surface. All 3DEP products are public domain.

    This dataset includes data over Canada and Mexico as part of an international, interagency collaboration with the Mexico's National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) and the Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN) Centre for Topographic Information-Sherbrook, Ottawa.     The USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) Index service from The National Map shows two general categories of downloadable elevation data: (1) digital elevation model (DEM) datasets at standardized horizontal resolutions, and (2) elevation source data including that used to produce standard DEMs, and additional datasets derived from ifsar in Alaska only. Distributable DEM products include: 2 arc-second (in Alaska only); 1 arc-second; 1/3 arc-second; 1/9 arc-second; 5 meter (in Alaska only); and 1 meter. The 2-, 1-, and 1/3-arc-second products are staged for download in 1x1 degree tiles in ArcGrid, GridFloat, or IMG formats, while 1/9 arc-second products are staged in 15x15 minute tiles in IMG format only. The 5-meter products are staged for download in ArcGrid only as a single mosaicked raster to each project extent. The 1-meter products are staged in 10,000x10,000 meter tiles in IMG format only.     These topographic/bathymetric digital elevation models (DEMs) were collected and compiled to characterize erosion and deposition in the Colorado River and in an adjacent zone of laterally recirculating flow (eddy) during both average flow conditions and during a controlled flood that occurred in March 2008. The objectives of the study were to measure changes sandbar morphology that occurred during changes in discharge associated with the controlled flood. These data were collected between February 6 and March 31, 2008 in a 1-mile study reach on the Colorado River within Grand Canyon National Park beginning 44.5 miles downstream from Lees Ferry, Arizona. These data were collected by the USGS Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center with cooperators from Northern Arizona University and funding provided by the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program.     The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM, see Farr et al. 2007) digital elevation data is an international research effort that obtained digital elevation models on a near-global scale. This SRTM V3 product (SRTM Plus) is provided by NASA JPL at a resolution of 1 arc-second (approximately 30m). Previously created 1 degree blocks are retained in the historical folder with an appended date suffix (YYYYMMDD) when they were produced. Other 3DEP products are nationally seamless DEMs in resolutions of ⅓ and 1 -arc-second.     Description

    GTOPO30 is a global raster digital elevation model (DEM) providing terrain elevation data with a horizontal grid spacing of 30 arc seconds (approximately 1 kilometer). GTOPO30 was derived from several raster and vector sources of topographic information. For easier distribution, GTOPO30 has been divided into tiles [https://rda.ucar.edu/datasets/ds758.0/docs/tiles.gif]. Detailed information on the characteristics of GTOPO30 including the data distribution format, the data sources, production methods, accuracy, and hints for users, is found in the GTOPO30 README [https://rda.ucar.edu/datasets/ds758.0/docs/readme.txt] file.

    GTOPO30, completed in late 1996, was developed over a three year period through a collaborative effort led by staff at the U.S. Geological Survey's Center for Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS). The following organizations participated by contributing funding or source data: the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the United Nations Environment Program and Global Resource Information Database (UNEP and GRID), the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Instituto Nacional de Estadistica Geografica e Informatica (INEGI) of Mexico, the Geographical Survey Institute (GSI) of Japan, Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research of New Zealand, and the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR).

    Domain and Product

    Changes between 4.0 and 4.1 are documented in the change log below and are most pronounced in the Suisun Marsh region and in the incorporation of some improvements in the South Delta.

    Changes in version 4 relative to prior products are limited to the region east of the Carquinez Strait (starting around Carquinez Bridge). To facilitate compatibility between products released by DWR and USGS/NOAA partners, DWR distributes the region west of the active work at 10m resolution but does not actively work in this region. The San Pablo Bay boundary of active revision in the present product in a place where its source data matches that of other Bay elevation models, e.g., the 2m seamless high-resolution bathymetric and topographic DEM of San Francisco Bay by USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science Center (EROS) (https://topotools.cr.usgs.gov/coned/sanfrancisco.php ), the 2010 San Francisco Bay DEM by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/metaview/page?xml=NOAA/NESDIS/NGDC/MGG/DEM/iso/xml/741.xml&view=getDataView&header=none ) or the prior (version 3) 10m digital elevation model (https://data.cnra.ca.gov/dataset/san-francisco-bay-and-sacramento-san-joaquin-delta-dem-v3 ).The 10m DEM for the Bay-Delta is based on the first on the list, i.e. EROS’ 2m DEM for the Bay

    New work reported here was done at 2m resolution, although the improvements have been incorporated into the 10m products as much as possible. Relative to the previous DWR release (https://data.cnra.ca.gov/dataset/san-francisco-bay-and-sacramento-san-joaquin-delta-dem-v3), the 2m DEM product reported here consolidates work at this resolution into a small number of larger surfaces representing approximately one-third of the Delta (link to the Coverage Areas page). Laterally, the 2m models now extend over the levee crest as needed to match well with Delta LiDAR (http://www.atlas.ca.gov/download.html#/casil/imageryBaseMapsLandCover/lidar2009 ), the main terrestrial source of data used in this work. The 10m product (link to the Coverage Areas page) is based on the updated USGS DEM (https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/item/58599681e4b01224f329b484 ). In places where updated 2m models overlap the 10 meters, the 10m base elevation model was updated by resampling the new 2m model and adding levee enforcement. At the border between the 2m and 10m models, the two resolutions were locally edge-matched over a small region to maintain smoothness.     The USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) Index service from The National Map shows two general categories of downloadable elevation data: (1) digital elevation model (DEM) datasets at standardized horizontal resolutions, and (2) elevation source data including that used to produce standard DEMs, and additional datasets derived from ifsar in Alaska only. Distributable DEM products include: 2 arc-second (in Alaska only); 1 arc-second; 1/3 arc-second; 1/9 arc-second; 5 meter (in Alaska only); and 1 meter. The 2-, 1-, and 1/3-arc-second products are staged for download in 1x1 degree tiles in ArcGrid, GridFloat, or IMG formats, while 1/9 arc-second products are staged in 15x15 minute tiles in IMG format only.     This dataset contains the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) for Africa from the Hydrologic Derivatives for Modeling and Analysis (HDMA) database. The DEM data were developed and distributed by processing units. There are 19 processing units for Africa.     Culminating more than four years of processing data, NASA and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) have completed Earth's most extensive global topographic map. The mission is a collaboration among NASA, NGA, and the German and Italian space agencies. For 11 days in February 2000, the space shuttle Endeavour conducted the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) using C-Band and X-Band interferometric synthetic aperture radars to acquire topographic data over 80% of the Earth's land mass, creating the first-ever near-global data set of land elevations. This data was used to produce topographic maps (digital elevation maps) 30 times as precise as the best global maps used today. The SRTM system gathered data at the rate of 40,000 per minute over land. They reveal for the first time large, detailed swaths of Earth's topography previously obscured by persistent cloudiness. The data will benefit scientists, engineers, government agencies and the public with an ever-growing array of uses. The SRTM radar system mapped Earth from 56 degrees south to 60 degrees north of the equator. The resolution of the publicly available data is three arc-seconds (1/1,200th of a degree of latitude and longitude, about 295 feet, at Earth's equator). The final data release covers Australia and New Zealand in unprecedented uniform detail. It also covers more than 1,000 islands comprising much of Polynesia and Melanesia in the South Pacific, as well as islands in the South Indian and Atlantic oceans. SRTM data are being used for applications ranging from land use planning to "virtual" Earth exploration. Currently, the mission's homepage "http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/srtm" provides direct access to recently obtained earth images. The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission C-band data for North America and South America are available to the public. A list of complete public data set is available at "http://www2.jpl.nasa.gov/srtm/dataprod.htm" The data specifications are within the following parameters: 30-meter X 30-meter spatial sampling with 16 meter absolute vertical height accuracy, 10-meter relative vertical height accuracy, and 20-meter absolute horizontal circular accuracy.     The SRTM radar contained two types of antenna panels, C-band and X-band. The near-global topographic maps of Earth called Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) are made from the C-band radar data. These data were processed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and are being distributed through the United States Geological Survey's EROS Data Center. Data from the X-band radar are used to create slightly higher resolution DEMs but without the global coverage of the C-band radar. The SRTM X-band radar data are being processed and distributed by the German Aerospace Center, DLR.

    Description

    The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) was flown aboard the space shuttle Endeavour February 11-22, 2000. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) participated in an international project to acquire radar data which were used to create the first near-global set of land elevations.

    The radars used during the SRTM mission were actually developed and flown on two Endeavour missions in 1994. The C-band Spaceborne Imaging Radar and the X-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar (X-SAR) hardware were used on board the space shuttle in April and October 1994 to gather data about Earth's environment. The technology was modified for the SRTM mission to collect interferometric radar, which compared two radar images or signals taken at slightly different angles. This mission used single-pass interferometry, which acquired two signals at the same time by using two different radar antennas. An antenna located on board the space shuttle collected one data set and the other data set was collected by an antenna located at the end of a 60-meter mast that extended from the shuttle. Differences between the two signals allowed for the calculation of surface elevation.

    Endeavour orbited Earth 16 times each day during the 11-day mission, completing 176 orbits. SRTM successfully collected radar data over 80% of the Earth's land surface between 60° north and 56° south latitude with data points posted every 1 arc-second (approximately 30 meters).

    Two resolutions of finished grade SRTM data are available through EarthExplorer from the collection held in the USGS EROS archive:

    1 arc-second (approximately 30-meter) high resolution elevation data offer worldwide coverage of void filled data at a resolution of 1 arc-second (30 meters) and provide open distribution of this high-resolution global data set. Some tiles may still contain voids. The SRTM 1 Arc-Second Global (30 meters) data set will be released in phases starting September 24, 2014. Users should check the coverage map in EarthExplorer to verify if their area of interest is available.

    3 arc-second (approximately 90-meter) medium resolution elevation data are available for global coverage. The 3 arc-second data were resampled using cubic convolution interpolation for regions between 60° north and 56° south latitude.

This is a tiled collection of the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) and is one meter resolution. The 3DEP data holdings serve as the elevation layer of The National Map, and provide foundational elevation information for earth science studies and mapping applications in the United States. Scientists and resource managers use 3DEP data for hydrologic modeling, resource monitoring, mapping and visualization, and many other applications. The elevations in this DEM represent the topographic bare-earth surface. USGS standard one-meter DEMs are produced exclusively from high resolution light detection and ranging (lidar) source data of one-meter or higher resolution. One-meter DEM surfaces are seamless within collection projects, but, not necessarily seamless across projects.
