They are all the 2019 versions of the maps except Needmore, which is 2017. TwitterThe ArcGIS Online US Geological Survey (USGS) topographic map collection now contains over 177,000 historical quadrangle maps dating from 1882 to 2006. The USGS Historical Topographic Map Explorer app brings these maps to life through an interface that guides users through the steps for exploring the map collection:Find a location of interest.View the maps.Compare the maps.Download and share the maps or open them in ArcGIS Desktop (ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap) where places will appear in their correct geographic location. Save the maps in an ArcGIS Online web map.
Finding the maps of interest is simple. Users can see a footprint of the map in the map view before they decide to add it to the display, and thumbnails of the maps are shown in pop-ups on the timeline. The timeline also helps users find maps because they can zoom and pan, and maps at select scales can be turned on or off by using the legend boxes to the left of the timeline. Once maps have been added to the display, users can reorder them by dragging them. Users can also download maps as zipped GeoTIFF images. Users can also share the current state of the app through a hyperlink or social media. The web map will open in ArcGIS Online. The title of the web map will be the same as the top map on the side panel of the app. All historical maps that were selected in the app will appear in the Contents section of the web map with the earliest at the top and the latest at the bottom. Turning the historical maps on and off or setting the transparency on the layers allows users to compare the historical maps over time. Also, the web map can be opened in ArcGIS Desktop (ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap) and used for exploration or data capture.Users can find out more about the USGS topograhic map collection and the app by clicking on the information button at the upper right. This opens a pop-up with information about the maps and app. The pop-up includes a useful link to a USGS web page that provides access to documents with keys explaining the symbols on historic and current USGS topographic maps. The pop-up also has a link to send Esri questions or comments about the map collection or the app.We have shared the updated app on GitHub, so users can download it and configure it to work with their own map collections.

Some of these maps and apps include, the National Map Viewer, the 3D Elevation Program, the National Hydrography Dataset and Hydrography Viewer, the Historical Topographic Map and the US Topo. Via The National Map, historical topographic maps are available to search and download via a variety of options. The 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) provides information about, and access to elevation data meeting the 3DEP guidelines. Users can also access and view the National Hydrography Dataset via the Hydrography viewer; this is similar to the National Map Viewer, however the basemap is based on HUC watersheds. Using the National Map Viewer, users can search for, access and download current 7.5 minute US Topos for the entire country; users can also explore and view other data for their area of interest. The 250K Geospatial PDF maps are useful for providing larger planning support views of the impacted areas and provide for high quality printing. They are termed 'Special Edition' because they are not a standard, official product, but created in rapid response for these events. At 1:24,000-scale (24K), the standard map size is 7.5 minutes of latitude by 7.5 minutes of longitude. At 1:100,000-scale (100K), the standard map size is 30 minutes of latitude by 60 minutes of longitude. TwitterThe National Geologic Map Database (NGMDB) is a Congressionally mandated national archive of geoscience maps, reports, and stratigraphic information. The Geologic Mapping Act of 1992 and its Reauthorizations calls for the U.S. Geological Survey and the Association of American State Geologists (AASG) to cooperatively build this national archive, according to technical and scientific standards whose development is coordinated by the NGMDB. The NGMDB consists of a comprehensive set of publication citations, stratigraphic nomenclature, downloadable content in raster and vector formats, unpublished source information, and guidance on standards development. The NGMDB contains information on more than 110,000 maps and related geoscience reports published from the early 1800s to the present day, by more than 630 agencies, universities, associations, and private companies.

Additional layers of the current US Topo and older USA Topo service from Esri are included, but turned off by default. This map is useful as a simple viewer to see the content of the NHD and WBD. In the Search tool pulldown, the “nhd - Flowline - Large Scale” and “nhd - Waterbody - Large Scale” choices search based on ReachCode. The “wbd - 8-digit HU (Subbasin)” and “wbd - 12-digit HU (Subwatershed)” choices search based on the HU code (HUC).

Boundaries data are useful for understanding the extent of jurisdictional or administrative areas for a wide range of applications, including mapping or managing resources, and responding to natural disasters. Boundaries data also include extents of forest, grassland, park, wilderness, wildlife, and other reserve areas useful for recreational activities, such as hiking and backpacking. Boundaries data are acquired from a variety of government sources. The data represents the source data with minimal editing or review by USGS. TwitterThis study seeks to use extensive geochemical analyses of groundwater and surface water to differentiate between various sources of nitrate contamination on Kirtland Air Force Base and parts of the Albuquerque Basin. Our goal is to create a template for future studies to follow when investigating complex—likely mixed—sources of nitrate in groundwater and surface water. Globally, nitrate is the most ubiquitous groundwater contaminate including within the Albuquerque Basin in New Mexico. Ingesting high concentrations of nitrate (> 10 mg/L as N) in drinking water can lead to an increased risk of cancer and in infants, methemoglobinemia. Historical groundwater sampling in Albuquerque and Kirtland Air Force Base have found high (> 10 mg/L as N) and sometime extreme (> 50 mg/L as N) nitrate concentrations in groundwater. There are many potential sources of nitrate in this region including fertilizers, septic leach fields, sewer lines, historical acid waste outfall from Sandia National Laboratory, landfills, and potentially—naturally occurring nitrate built up in desert soils. Partners include City of Albuquerque, Pueblo of Isleta, and U.S. Air Force Civil Engineer Center.

TwitterThe USGS National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) service from The National Map is a comprehensive set of digital spatial data that encodes information about naturally occurring and constructed bodies of surface water (lakes, ponds, and reservoirs), paths through which water flows (canals, ditches, streams, and rivers), and related entities such as point features (springs, wells, stream gages, and dams). The information encoded about these features includes classification and other characteristics, delineation, geographic name, position and related measures, a "reach code" through which other information can be related to the NHD, and the direction of water flow. The network of reach codes delineating water and transported material flow allows users to trace movement in upstream and downstream directions. In addition to this geographic information, the dataset contains metadata that supports the exchange of future updates and improvements to the data. The NHD is available nationwide in two seamless datasets, one based on 1:24,000 (or larger) scale and referred to as high resolution NHD, and the other based on 1:100,000 scale and referred to as medium resolution NHD. The NHD from The National Map supports many applications, such as making maps, geocoding observations, flow modeling, data maintenance, and stewardship. The NHD is commonly combined with other data themes, such as boundaries, elevation, structures, and transportation, to produce general reference base maps. Small-scale contours were created by USGS TNM from 1 arc-second data with 100-meter contours, and are visible at 1:600,000 and smaller scales. Medium-scale contours were created by USGS EROS from 1/3-arc-second data with 100-foot intervals, and are visible between 1:150,000 and 1:600,000. Additional medium-scale contours were created by USGS EROS from 1/3-arc-second data with 50-foot intervals, and are visible between 1:50,000 and 1:150,000. Large scale contours are updated every quarter, and are created by USGS TNM for the 7.5' 1:24,000-scale US Topo digital map series. These contours are derived from 1/3 arc-second or better resolution data, and are visible at scales 1:50,000 and larger. Large scale contour intervals are variable across the United States depending on complexity of topography, and as contours are generated per US Topo quadrangle, lines may not match across quad boundaries. USGS Imagery Only is a tile cache base map of orthoimagery in The National Map visible to the 1:18,000 scale. Orthoimagery data are typically high resolution images that combine the visual attributes of an aerial photograph with the spatial accuracy and reliability of a planimetric map. USGS digital orthoimage resolution may vary from 6 inches to 1 meter. In the former resolution, every pixel in an orthoimage covers a six inch square of the earth's surface, while in the latter resolution, one meter square is represented by each pixel. Blue Marble: Next Generation source is displayed at small to medium scales. However, the majority of the imagery service source is from the National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) for the conterminous United States. The data is 1-meter pixel resolution with "leaf-on". Collection of NAIP imagery is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency (FSA). In areas where NAIP data is not available, other imagery may be acquired through partnerships by the USGS. The National Map program is working on acquisition of high resolution orthoimagery (HRO) for Alaska and Hawaii. Most of the new Alaska imagery data will not be available in this service due to license restrictions. The National Map viewer allows free downloads of public domain, 1-meter resolution orthoimagery in JPEG 2000 (jp2) format for the conterminous United States, with many urban areas and other locations at 1-foot (or better) resolution also in JPEG 2000 (jp2) format. TwitterThis dataset combines the work of several different projects to create a seamless data set for the contiguous United States. Data from four regional Gap Analysis Projects and the LANDFIRE project were combined to make this dataset. In the northwestern United States (Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Washington and Wyoming) data in this map came from the Northwest Gap Analysis Project. In the southwestern United States (Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah) data used in this map came from the Southwest Gap Analysis Project. The data for Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Virginia came from the Southeast Gap Analysis Project and the California data was generated by the updated California Gap land cover project. The Hawaii Gap Analysis project provided the data for Hawaii. In areas of the county (central U.S., Northeast, Alaska) that have not yet been covered by a regional Gap Analysis Project, data from the Landfire project was used. Similarities in the methods used by these projects made possible the combining of the data they derived into one seamless coverage. They all used multi-season satellite imagery (Landsat ETM+) from 1999-2001 in conjunction with digital elevation model (DEM) derived datasets (e.g. elevation, landform) to model natural and semi-natural vegetation. Vegetation classes were drawn from NatureServe's Ecological System Classification (Comer et al. 2003) or classes developed by the Hawaii Gap project. Additionally, all of the projects included land use classes that were employed to describe areas where natural vegetation has been altered. In many areas of the country these classes were derived from the National Land Cover Dataset (NLCD). For the majority of classes and, in most areas of the country, a decision tree classifier was used to discriminate ecological system types. In some areas of the country, more manual techniques were used to discriminate small patch systems and systems not distinguishable through topography. The data contains multiple levels of thematic detail. At the most detailed level natural vegetation is represented by NatureServe's Ecological System classification (or in Hawaii the Hawaii GAP classification). These most detailed classifications have been crosswalked to the five highest levels of the National Vegetation Classification (NVC), Class, Subclass, Formation, Division and Macrogroup. This crosswalk allows users to display and analyze the data at different levels of thematic resolution. Developed areas, or areas dominated by introduced species, timber harvest, or water are represented by other classes, collectively refered to as land use classes; these land use classes occur at each of the thematic levels. Raster data in both ArcGIS Grid and ERDAS Imagine format is available for download at http://gis1.usgs.gov/csas/gap/viewer/land_cover/Map.aspx Six layer files are included in the download packages to assist the user in displaying the data at each of the Thematic levels in ArcGIS.
