Table 8.6 provides statistics on the amount of funds raised by VCTs and the number of VCTs, and contains the first officially published estimates for tax year 2017-18;
Table 8.9 provides statistics on the number of investors and amount of investment claimed under the VCT schemes through Self-Assessment forms, and includes the first estimates for tax year 2016-17.
Venture capital investment in the United Kingdom experienced steady growth from 2018 to 2022, reaching nearly ** billion British pounds. Throughout 2023, however, the value of VC investments in the UK decreased, reaching approximately ** billion British pounds.
Venture capital (VC) investment in fintech companies across the Americas showed signs of market stabilization in 2024, despite continuing its downward trend. While both investment volume and deal count decreased, the rate of decline moderated significantly compared to previous years. The number of fintech deals in the region fell from ***** in 2023 to ***** in 2024, representing a more modest decrease than the sharp declines observed since 2021.
2021 set a new record for venture capital investments in the United States, amounting to approximately *** billion U.S. dollars, nearly twice as much as the previous year. Venture capital is defined as temporary equity investment in young, innovative, non-listed companies that stand out on the market. Although the companies lack the current earning power, they have above average growth potential, which makes them an attractive investment opportunity. In 2023, it was ***** billion U.S. dollars, which was a significant decline when compared to the previous year.
Between 2005 and September 2018, the most attractive sector for venture capital investments in Mexico was consumer services, receiving around 33 percent of the total investments. It was followed by fintech, with 15 percent of the country's venture capital investments in the period.
In 2018, 88 percent of venture capital investments in Hong Kong went to the TMT (technology, media and telecom) sector, followed by six percent in healthcare.

Between October 2020 and March 2021, venture capital-backed companies were acquired for record high sums globally. In the first quarter of 2021 alone, these acquisition deals reached 57.1 billion U.S. dollars in value, which was greater than the value of deals closed in the first two quarters of 2020 combined.
Cumulatively, the global climate tech sector attracted almost *** billion U.S. dollars in venture capital funding between 2018 and 2023. The United States received the largest proportion of VC funding during this period, at ***** billion U.S. dollars. This was roughly equal to the combined climate tech VC raised in China and Europe during this period.
