    Description

    Abstract

The FAO has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). This fourth-round survey in Somalia reached 2950 households, approximately 160 agricultural households per region. All the regions of Somalia were targeted for data collection except Banadir. Therefore, 17 out of 18 regions were surveyed. The surveys were conducted from 7 April 2022 to 27 May 2022 through computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI). The delay in data collection was due to the Eid holidays and political instability. For more information, please go to https://data-in-emergencies.fao.org/pages/monitoring

The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). In each region, 160 agricultural households were targeted, a total of 2720 households. All surveyed regions reached at least 90 households, the minimum required as reliability criteria for the IPC analysis, except for Middle Juba which only reached 57 households. The results for Middle Juba are, therefore, not representative at a regional level. A total of 2479 households were reached during the survey. Panel lists of households reached in previous rounds were used, in addition to random digital dialing when the sample size could not be reached in the region using the panel list.

The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). Between 23 July and 17 August 2021 FAO launched a household survey which was conducted via telephone interviews by Geopoll using a list of respondents from a previous round of data collection and from desert locust assessment contacts. Additional contacts were obtained from random digit dialling. The sample comprised 2,732 households, including 160 agricultural households in 17 regions of Somalia. In addition, face-to-face key informant interviews were conducted with 50 crop, livestock and fisheries extension officers, 55 agricultural input venders and 49 food traders. The respondents comprised of 1810 male and 922 female. The survey also included face to face Key Informant interviews that included 50 extension officers (crop, livestock, fisheries), 55 agro input venders as well as 49 food traders.
