    Description

People aged between 55 and 64 years made up the largest age group among the Italian population in 2025, counting around 9.3 million individuals, closely followed by those aged 45 to 54 years, who were 8.9 million people. Infants aged up to two years were 1.16 million, the less numerous age category. As these data show, Italy suffers from a deep demographic and natality crisis. The country's population is one of the oldest in the world. In recent years, the share of Italians aged 65 years and over constantly grew, whereas the percentage of younger people declined.
