This service provides lines representing state maintained railroad track for mapping, planning and modeling purposes. The North Carolina rail lines are provided by the NCDOT Rail Division. The service includes line features that represent all standard gauge freight and passenger railroad track in North Carolina. The linework was digitized based on the most recent statewide aerial photography provided by the State of North Carolina. Select segments representing out of service track have been added to the dataset to aid in preserved and future corridor analysis. This service is intended for use as a reference layer. Full Rail System information such as owner, operator, track type, branch, beginning milepost, ending milepost, and service status can be found in the NCDOT North Carolina Rail System service.MetadataThe metadata for the contained layer of the NCDOT Railroad Service is available through the following link:Railroad TrackPoint of Contact North Carolina Department of Information Technology -Transportation, GIS UnitGIS Data and Services ConsultantContact information:gishelp@ncdot.govCentury Center – Building B1020 Birch Ridge DriveRaleigh, NC 27610Hours of service: 9:00am - 5:00pm Monday – FridayContact instructions: Please send an email with any issues, questions, or comments regarding the Railroad data.
