    Description

In 2023, over 8.8 million Botulinum toxin, commonly known as Botox, injections were performed by plastic surgeons globally, making it the most popular non-invasive cosmetic treatment. Hyaluronic acid injections and hair removal rounded out the top three most sought-after minimally invasive procedures, highlighting the diverse range of options available to those seeking aesthetic enhancements. Global distribution of cosmetic procedures The United States remains at the forefront of the cosmetic procedure industry, accounting for 14 percent of all plastic surgeons worldwide in 2023. While Brazil leads in surgical procedures, the U.S. maintains its top position for total cosmetic procedures due to the high volume of nonsurgical treatments. Countries like Turkey, Argentina, and Germany also show a preference for nonsurgical "touch-ups" over surgical treatments. Rising popularity of medical tourism Cosmetic surgery tourism has become increasingly common, with some countries becoming hotspots for foreign patients. Colombian surgeons, for instance, reported that an average of 36 percent of its cosmetic surgery patients were from abroad in 2023, primarily from the United States, Venezuela, and Ecuador. This trend extends to other regions as well, with Turkey seeing the largest share of foreign patients traveling from Germany for procedures. The willingness of individuals to travel internationally for cosmetic treatments demonstrates the varying accessibility, quality, safety, and costs of procedures across different countries.
