    Description

    The Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) has published the Public Health Outcomes Framework (PHOF) quarterly data update for March 2023.

    The data is presented in an interactive tool that allows users to view it in a user-friendly format. The data tool also provides links to further supporting information, to aid understanding of public health in a local population.

    The March release is in addition to the quarterly schedule for the PHOF (May, August, November and February) to incorporate new population estimates from the 2021 Census.

    This update includes new data for 20 indicators.

    • 1 indicator from the overarching domain, life expectancy at birth and at 65
    • 7 indicators from the health improvement domain including hospital admissions related to children and older people, baby’s first feed breastmilk and percentage reporting a long term musculoskeletal (MSK) problem
    • 12 indicators from the healthcare and premature mortality indicators including under 75 mortality from various causes and hip fractures

    The trend data have been removed for 17 of these indicators as revised mid-year population estimates for 2012 to 2020, based on the 2021 Census, are not yet available.

    • 7 indicators from the health improvement domain including conception rates in teenagers, percentage of looked after children whose emotional wellbeing is a cause for concern, and percentage of physically active adults
    • 4 indicators from the health protection domain including the fraction of mortality attributable to particulate air pollution (new method), population vaccination coverage for human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination coverage for two doses (females 13 to 14 years old) and population vaccination coverage - Meningococcal ACWY conjugate vaccine (MenACWY) (14 to 15 years)
    • 5 indicators from the healthcare and premature mortality domain including emergency readmissions within 30 days of discharge from hospital and preventable sight loss

    • children in absolute and relative low income families (under 16s)
    • 7 indicators from the health improvement domain, including conception rates in teenagers, percentage of looked-after children whose emotional wellbeing is a cause for concern, and percentage of physically active adults
    • 5 indicators from the health protection domain, including population vaccination coverage for HPV vaccination coverage for 2 doses (females and males 13 to 14 years old), population vaccination coverage: meningococcal ACWY conjugate vaccine (14 to 15 years), and population vaccination coverage for shingles (71 years)
    • 6 indicators from the healthcare and premature mortality domain, including percentage of 5 year olds with experience of visually obvious dentinal decay and preventable sight loss

    The trend data has been removed for 7 of these indicators as revised mid-year population estimates for 2012 to 2020, based on the 2021 Census, are not yet available.

    This update includes new data for 13 indicators:

    • First time entrants to the youth justice system
    • Sickness absence - the percentage of employees who had at least one day off in the previous week
    • Sickness absence - the percentage of working days lost due to sickness absence
    • Re-offending levels - percentage of offenders who re-offend
    • Re-offending levels - average number of re-offences per re-offender
    • Fuel poverty (low income, low energy efficiency methodology)
    • Low birth weight of term babies
    • Population vaccination coverage: flu (2 to 3 years old)
    • Population vaccination coverage: flu (primary school aged children)
    • Population vaccination coverage: flu (at risk individuals)
    • Population vaccination coverage: flu (aged 65 and over)
    • Adjusted antibiotic prescribing in primary care by the NHS
    • Estimated dementia diagnosis rate (aged 65 and over)
