    Description

The Library of Congress makes available high resolution images of maps created during the Civil War by Confederate Engineers. One Shared Story volunteers georeference these images to modern features using points where streams and rivers join. These georeferenced images are generated into a tile map service using Esri products and made available to the public through ArcGIS Online. Volunteers digitize the map labels to create a searchable spatial data for the map image.

This map provides the location of the original land grants within present day Loudoun County from the early 1700s to early 1800s. To view a list of sortable attributes of the information, please click on the Table button in the upper right corner of the map. For additional details, please visit here. These are the original grantings of land within the Northern Neck Proprietary by Thomas, the 6th Lord of Fairfax and/or his agents until the mid 1780s during the settlement of Virginia. The map shows the approximate location of the original land grant as well as information on the grantee, the acreage of the grant (as calculated using the GIS), the year, and additional comments. The map is intended for historical reference only, as insufficient and incomplete original boundary surveys have resulted in potential inaccurate boundaries. The original research for all of the land grants mapped in this application was completed by historian Wynne Saffer. They were originally mapped on USGS Quadrangles at a scale of 1:24000, then scanned to a digital file and the boundaries digitized by the Loudoun County Office of Mapping and Geographic Information staff. The orginial land grant research is located at Thomas Balch Library. The land grants can be viewed on microfilm using the Record Number as a reference. This map is also located on the Office of Mapping and Geographic Information online map gallery, which can be found here. For more information about Loudoun County's GIS, please contact Office of Mapping and Geographic Information.

    Description

Critical minerals are essential for the energy transition; to meet sustainability goals, production of these resources must significantly increase within the coming decades. For example, demand for lithium, an element essential for battery technologies found in many electronics and vehicles, is anticipated to increase by more than ten-fold by 2050 compared to current production. Critical minerals occur in Amelia County, Virginia, however, considerable uncertainty remains regarding their location, amount, and types of commodities present. In fulfilling its mission to provide information on mineral resources of the national domain, the U.S. Geological Survey aims to synthesize and disseminate high quality data on mineral sites. Ensuring the accuracy of extracted information involves digitizing and georeferencing historic maps of the area that contain locations of mines and prospects. These maps, compared with records in the Mineral Resources Data System (MRDS; Schweitzer, 2019), were used to produce a harmonized dataset within Amelia County of reconciled, well-attributed mineral sites. Utilizing modern topographic mapping and LiDAR imagery, historical site locations were enhanced with increased accuracy to create a more accurate map of current and former mines and prospects in Amelia County. Data are presented in tabular form with complete bibliographic citations.

This group includes the following items: 1. Hampton Roads Elevation Certificate Building Footprints: includes only building footprints where final elevation certificates are available, with elevations reported in the vertical datum provided on the elevation certificate (NGVD 29 or NAVD 88). 2. Hampton Roads Elevation Certificate Parcels: includes only parcels where final elevation certificates are available, with elevations reported in the vertical datum provided on the elevation certificate (NGVD 29 or NAVD 88). Where necessary, conversions from NGVD 1929 to NAVD 1988 were completed using the VERTCON (NOAA NGS, 2019). Elevation certificates were collected from the following 12 localities: Chesapeake, Franklin, Gloucester County, Hampton, James City County, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Southampton County, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, and York County. Localities included in the current inventory were able to provide digital elevation certificate copies. This inventory is not complete for the region, and elevation certificates will continue to be added to the database when available. The elevation certificate database was developed by HRPDC staff with support from the Center for Geospatial, Science, Education, and Analytics at Old Dominion University (ODU). We would like to acknowledge Manuel Solano (ODU) for his contributions to the Gloucester County and City of Norfolk elevation certificate data development.Building footprints are courtesy the VGIN statewide building footprints layer and locality GIS departments. Building attributes and parcels are courtesy of the Hampton Roads Regional Parcels layer and locality GIS departments. Current flood zones are courtesy of the FEMA National Flood Hazard Layer, with base flood elevations reported in NAVD 1988 where available. Description

This feature class consists of approximately 195,000 features representing over 70,000 miles of Interstate, Primary, Secondary and Urban roads throughout the State of Virginia. The Linear Referencing System is based on the Virginia Department of Transportation's Source System of Record for road inventory, Roadway Inventory Management System (RIMS). Geometry and Attribution: The Linear Referencing System (LRS) data contained within this feature class provides dissolved route segmentation (i.e. routes are not segmented when they intersect other routes), thus rendering one table record per route. Multi-part geometry is created where routes are noncontiguous (e.g. a valid physical gap exists because another route is the master). The feature class only depicts master routes, those are routes built in the prime direction and on divided roadways where the non-prime direction is the master. Each road centerline record has a master route record assigned. Measures: The linear reference is based on Official State Mileage (OSM) as derived from reference points at Roadway Inventory Management System (RIMS) roadway intersections (i.e. nodes/junctions). Purpose: This linear referenced data layer represents roadways that are maintained by the Virginia Department of Transportation and provides the underlying spatially enabled geometric network to which all "events" (e.g. potholes, pavement type, vehicle accidents, traffic counts, culverts, etc...) can be located. Note: The overlap and non-prime measures are for reference only and have not been fully validated for accuracy or completeness.

    Description

The Virginia Geographic Information Network (VGIN) has coordinated the development and maintenance of a statewide Parcels data layer in conjunction with local governments across the Commonwealth. The Virginia Parcel dataset is aggregated as part of the VGIN Local Government Data Call update cycle. Localities are encouraged to submit data bi-annually and are included into the parcel dataset with their most recent geography.Attributes for these Virginia parcels are limited to locality identification and parcel id. Tax parcel boundaries have not been edge-matched across municipal boundaries but they are associated by local government FIPS and locality name. The boundaries are intended for cartographic use and spatial analysis only, and not for use as legal descriptions or property surveys. Not all localities within the Commonwealth of Virginia have confirmed a digital record for parcel geography or submit data with a bi-annual frequency.GDB Version: ArcGIS Pro 3.3Additional Resources:Shapefile DownloadREST EndpointVirginia Parcels: Local Schema Tables

    Description

The 100-year flood (1% chance of flooding every year) limits depicted on the County maps are based on the countywide Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Flood Insurance Study and Maps that became effective May 16, 2016.Additional information on how to view and/or obtain Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRMs), or Q3 data for Albemarle County, please consult the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) website. Please note that FEMA may issue Letters of Map Amendment (LOMA) or Letters of Map Revision (LOMR) to remove structures and/or parcels from the flood plain without revising the effective Flood Insurance Rate Maps. The County is not authorized to change the effective flood maps. Therefore the flood zone status of a parcel in the County may change, but the maps from FEMA may still depict previous conditions. Questions about any LOMAs or LOMRs that may have been issued for County parcels can be directed to staff at Albemarle County's Department of Community Development.
