    Description

A Geographic Information System (GIS) shapefile and summary tables of the extent of irrigated agricultural land-use are provided for eleven counties fully or partially within the St. Johns River Water Management District (full-county extents of: Brevard, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Indian River, Nassau, Osceola, Putnam, Seminole, St. Johns, and Volusia counties). These files were compiled through a cooperative project between the U.S. Geological Survey and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Office of Agricultural Water Policy. Information provided in the shapefile includes the location of irrigated lands that were verified during field surveying that started in November 2022 and concluded in August 2023. Field data collected were crop type, irrigation system type, and primary water source used. A map image of the shapefile is also provided. Previously published estimates of irrigation acreage for years since 1987 are included in summary tables.

    Description

Abstract: Brownfields are defined by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) as abandoned, idled, or underused industrial and commercial facilities where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination. The primary goals of Florida's Brownfields Redevelopment Act (Ch. 97-277, Laws of Florida, codified at ss. 376.77-.85, F.S.) are to reduce health and environmental hazards on existing commercial and industrial sites that are abandoned or underused due to these hazards and create financial and regulatory incentives to encourage redevelopment and voluntary cleanup of contaminated properties. A 'brownfield area' means a contiguous area of one or more brownfield sites, some of which may not be contaminated, that has been designated as such by a local government resolution. Such areas may include all or portions of community redevelopment areas, enterprise zones, empowerment zones, other such designated economically deprived communities and areas, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) designated brownfield pilot projects. This layer provides a polygon representation of the boundaries of these designated Brownfield Areas in Volusia County. The data presented here is an extract of the the FDEP statewide Brownfield Areas shapefile and contains only areas within Volusia County.Purpose: Brownfields data is provided to assist in the determination of areas with potential for economic revitalization.Accuracy: This layer provides a polygon representation of the boundaries of designated Brownfield Areas within Florida where a resolution has been passed by a local municipality. These polygons were created using various methodologies for creating digital spatial data depending upon the type of information provided by the municipality within the resolution and loosely dependent upon the cadastral (parcel) boundaries provided by the County Property Appraisers at the time when the spatial boundaries were developed. Since the data quality of the cadastral layer varies from county to county, the data quality of the brownfield area polygons will also vary. These methodologies include the following list: Coordinate Geometry (COGO) created from legal descriptions of the area specified in the resolution. Many of the brownfields include a large area with hundreds of property parcels. These boundaries were compared with the most recent cadastral boundaries available from the County Property Appraiser and spatially adjusted where necessary to clearly include the property parcels marked for redevelopment, the roadway right of way areas (where applicable), city boundaries, political boundaries, and other economic incentive zones. Shapefiles, Coverages and CADD files of the area were provided by the local municipality or planning and development agencies in some cases. These shapefiles were used without modification to the geometry to match cadastral boundaries. Coverages and CADD files were converted to a format compatible with the process software. Paper Maps showing the scaled boundaries of the area in relation to property parcels, geographic landmarks, and land surveys are sometimes included in the resolution. These maps are compared to available GIS boundaries in order to locate the specific property parcels referenced. The available cadastral boundaries are used to represent the area where only paper maps or parcel folio numbers are provided. All inquiries concerning this data should be directed to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) OTIS/GIS Section. This shape file represents the estimated recharge area for Blue Spring in southwest Volusia County, Florida. The area was created based upon a particle tracking methodology, using the USGS model MODPATH as the simulation tool, to trace particles of water from their destination back to their source. The MODPATH analysis is based upon the SJRWMD regional model of the Volusia County model as documented by S. Williams in SJ2006-4 (search https://www.sjrwmd.com for technical publications or https://static.sjrwmd.com/sjrwmd/secure/technicalreports/TP/SJ2006-4.pdf)

    • Has more than once, without provocation, severely injured or killed a domestic animal while off the owner's property; or

    • Has been used primarily, or in part, for the purpose of fighting, or is a dog trained for dog fighting; or

    • Has, without provocation, chased or approached a person upon the streets, sidewalks, or any public grounds in an aggressive, menacing fashion or apparent attitude of attack; provided that such actions are attested to in a sworn statement by one or more persons, and dutifully investigated by the appropriate authority.

    • A dog shall not be declared dangerous if the threat, injury, or damage was sustained by a person who, at the time, was unlawfully on the property or, while lawfully on the property, was teasing, tormenting, abusing, or assaulting the dog or its owner or a family member.

    • No dog may be declared dangerous if the dog was protecting or defending a human being within the immediate vicinity of the dog from an unjustified attack or assault.

If Animal Services finds sufficient cause to declare a dog as "Dangerous", the owner is notified in writing. At this point the owner has three options:

    1. Appeal the notice of sufficient cause to Volusia County Animal Services, who will hold a hearing before the Hearing Officer and either accept or rescind the declaration. If the Hearing Officer accepts the sufficient cause findings, the owner may appeal their decision to the County Court; or

    2. Comply with the Dangerous Dog Restrictions (listed at the bottom of the page); or

    3. Sign the dog over to Animal Services.

To comply with the Dangerous Dog Restrictions, a dog owner must have:

    1. A current certificate of rabies vaccination and county license for the dog.

    2. A locked, secure enclosure to confine the dangerous dog, and the posting of the premises with a clearly visible warning sign at all entry points that informs both children and adults of the presence of a dangerous dog on the property.

    3. Proof of permanent identification of the dangerous dog, such as a tattoo or an electronic implantation, as specified by Animal Services.

    4. The owner shall have the dangerous dog spayed or neutered within sixty (30) days of the effective date of the dangerous dog declaration.

    5. Within (14) days pay the $50.00 fee for the Certificate of Registration from the Animal Control Authority. This Certificate of Registration is to be renewed each year on the month/day of Dangerous Dog Classification.

For further information on Dangerous Dog laws, please refer to section 14-40, Code of Ordinances, County of Volusia and Florida State Statute, Chapter 767

    Description

The raster is created from the finalized contour lines for May 2012, An estimated zero contour line is placed along the coast from Bay County to Pinellas County and along Volusia County. This contour aids in making a more reasonable surface along the coast, since water level vaues are less than the 10 foot contour interval shown on the contour map (see potentiometric contour map). Using the Topo to Raster tool, a 500 X 500 meter grid is created by using the May 2012 contour lines, the estimated zero contour line, estimated water value points along the suwannee river and the May 2012 water level data. The interpolated elevation value in each cell is in feet mean sea level. Please reference the metadata for contact information.

    Description

Aerial distribution surveys are used by marine mammal biologists from FWC and other agencies to determine the seasonal distribution of manatees. Most surveys are conducted from small, four-seat, high-winged airplanes (Cessna 172 or 182) flying at a height of 500-1000 ft at a speed of 70-90 kts. Small helicopters may be used instead of fixed wing aircraft in urban areas or where waters are particularly opaque and hovering may be required. Flights are usually five hours long and are most commonly flown every two weeks for six months. The surveys are designed to maximize the manatee counts by concentrating on shallow nearshore waters around the state where manatees and their primary food source, sea grasses, are located. Flight paths curve parallel to the shoreline, and the airplane circles when manatees are spotted until a count of the number of animals in each group is obtained. Offshore waters are usually not surveyed. Dolphin and sea turtle sightings are recorded opportunistically. All aerial data are recorded on paper maps and entered into a GIS shapefile for spatial analysis. GIS is a computer software system for representing data spatially and for conducting spatial analyses. Surveys of Volusia County (Tomoka River) were flown twice a month from May to November 1985. Staff from FWC, USFWS Sirenia Project, Brevard County and Hobe Sound NWR were observers for these flights. This survey was flown as a part of a larger study that included six east coast counties divided into five survey segments from north to south; Volusia and N. Brevard counties were within segment 1. The survey area includes the Tomoka Basin and Tomoka River.

In the NFHL Viewer, you can use the address search or map navigation to locate an area of interest and the NFHL Print Tool to download and print a full Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) or FIRMette (a smaller, printable version of a FIRM) where NFHL data exists. Technical GIS users can also utilize a series of dedicated GIS web services that allow the NFHL database to be incorporated into websites and GIS applications. For more information on available services, go to the NFHL GIS Services User Guide. You can also use the address search on the FEMA Flood Map Service Center (MSC) to view the NFHL data or download a FIRMette. Using the “Search All Products” on the MSC, you can download the NFHL data for a County or State in a GIS file format. This data can be used in most GIS applications to perform spatial analyses and for integration into custom maps and reports. To do so, you will need GIS or mapping software that can read data in shapefile format.FEMA also offers a download of a KMZ (keyhole markup file zipped) file, which overlays the data in Google Earth™. For more information on using the data in Google Earth™, please see Using the National Flood Hazard Layer Web Map Service (WMS) in Google Earth™.
