This service provides a quarterly snapshot of the North Carolina state-maintained road network centerlines. Here, the route network is divided into three layers with symbolized Route Classifications listed below.State Maintained RoadsInterstateUS RouteNC RouteSecondary RouteRampsRest AreasOther State Agency RouteState Maintained Roads - Primary RoadsInterstateUS RouteNC RouteState Maintained Roads - InterstatesInterstateNorth Carolina’s route network is comprised of Interstate, US, NC, Secondary Roads, Ramps, and non-state maintained and projected roads required for federal reporting purposes. Route attributes include Route Class, Route Qualifier, Route Inventory, Route Number, Route Name, and County name. The Route ID attribute is an 11-digit composite route number, the identifier for the Dominant Route. It uniquely identifies routes statewide and should be used as the route identifier when performing LRS analysis using route/milepost referencing.NCDOT adopted the road centerline based Linear Reference System (LRS) Network as it’s official Enterprise LRS, to which multiple road inventory attributes are referenced along measured routes throughout North Carolina. These routes are classified as either System or Non-System routes. System routes are routes within the state-maintained road network, and are comprised of Interstates, US Routes, NC Routes, Secondary Routes, Ramps, and Non-System Routes. Non-System routes are routes that are typically not maintained by NCDOT, but instead by a local agency (county, city or MPO/RPO). The local agency is the source for updating these Non-System routes in NCDOT’s LRS. The collection of routes, System and Non-System, is the NCDOT LRS Network referred to as MilePoint.MetadataThe metadata for the contained layers of the NCDOT State Maintained Roads service is available through the following links:NCDOT Route ArcsPoint of Contact North Carolina Department of Information Technology -Transportation, GIS UnitGIS Data and Services ConsultantContact information:gishelp@ncdot.govCentury Center – Building B1020 Birch Ridge DriveRaleigh, NC 27610Hours of service: 9:00am - 5:00pm Monday – FridayContact instructions: Please send an email with any issues, questions, or comments regarding the State Maintained Roads data. Description

This web map was developed from modeling and map deliverables for the Cape Fear 02/03 Regional Watershed Plan (RWP) conducted by VHB Inc. on behalf of the NCDEQ Division of Mitigation Services (DMS). The Cape Fear RWP was initiated in April 2020 and completed in February 2022. The map and application were updated and re-deployed in Experience Builder in April 2025. The RWP planning process included an assessment of watershed and stream conditions, watershed modeling at the catchment scale and identification of restoration and enhancement opportunities. The Cape Fear River Basin has undergone extensive land use conversion in the last decade and development pressures are projected to increase, particularly in the Deep and Haw River subbasins, and portions of both comprise the 620 square mile planning area. The planning process was also an opportunity to support and build upon existing stakeholder processes and ongoing efforts from engaged landowners, NGOs and local government agencies to identify watershed needs and implement improvement projects. A significant amount of the Cape Fear River Basin upstream of the RWP area drains into and through the planning area. Within the planning area and subbasins there remain significant habitats for natural communities and state and federally listed species, NC DWR classified Surface Water Supply Watersheds, Nutrient Sensitive Waters, Critical Areas as well as Impaired Waters, 303d-listed streams exceeding criteria with TMDL required. Metadata for all attributes and layers can be found here. Factsheet with links to full watershed plan assessments and reports can be found here. DMS Planning uses a watershed approach to determine priority areas for implementation of mitigation projects. The purpose of this approach is to concentrate mitigation resources in areas where they will have the greatest benefit to local watershed functions. The DMS watershed approach applies multi-scale watershed planning to set and achieve goals for maintaining and improving aquatic resources throughout the state. Regional Watershed Plans (RWPs) build upon existing DMS planning efforts, such as Local Watershed Plans (LWPs) and River Basin Restoration Priorities (RBRPs), as well as stakeholder momentum. RWPs evaluate aquatic resource conditions, and identify priorities based upon watershed functions. This regional plan includes management strategies and implementation recommendations that may be applied to smaller catchment areas (2 to 5 sq mi) based upon existing data and modeled watershed conditions. This allows DMS to focus implementation of compensatory mitigation projects in watersheds that exhibit the greatest opportunity for improvement. The Cape Fear RWP planning area includes portions of HUC8s 03030002 and 03030003, as well as Randolph, Alamance, Guilford, Orange, Lee, Wake and Chatham counties. All or portions of the towns of Pittsboro, Siler City, Liberty, Staley, Sanford and Moncure are within the planning area, which is comprised of the following HUC12s: 030300020504, 030300020505, 030300020508, 030300020509, 030300020701, 030300020702, 030300020703, 030300020704, 030300020705, 030300030201, 030300030202, 030300030206, 030300030501, 030300030502, 030300030503, 030300030504, 030300030505, 030300030506, 030300030507, 030300030508, 030300030509, 030300030608.For any inquiries please contact the Division of Mitigation Services Watershed Planning team.

    Description

NO WAKE SAFE WATER ZONES: A designated area where a watercraft must not exceed 5 miles per hour and where a watercraft shall not produce waves showing whitewater. EXCLUSION AREAS: Though these areas are excluded from the 300' no-wake zone mandated by Ordinance 20-11, they still fall within Idaho State Law Section 67-7077 which states that the no-wake rules apply when within 100 feet of a dock, person or structure. No Wake zone polygons were created through a buffer analyses in a GIS, based on digitized Lake Cascade and Payette Lake Water Boundaries. Considering the use of aerial imagery collected by a third party, accuracy of actual boundaries may vary up to 10 meters, which means these data cannot be utilized to show boaters precise locations of no-wake zone boundaries but are used more for estimating boundaries.Payette Lake Water Boundary was digitized by the City of McCall based on imagery, elevation data and average full pool depth. Payette Lake Pool Depth does not vary greatly during boating season, however variations may occur which means these data are most accurate when Payette Lake is at average full pool depth.Lake Cascade Boundary was digitized manually by Valley County based on aerial imagery that was collected during an average full pool depth period. Because pool depth elevation varies greatly throughout the boating season, no wake zones during boating season in Lake Cascade will vary at certain times from boundaries presented in this dataset. In other words, these data are most accurate when Lake Cascade is at average full pool depth which may be a small portion of actual boating season. For questions on how no wake zones and exclusion areas were determined, please contact Valley County Marine Deputy.
