    Description:

One of the leading retail stores in the US, Walmart, would like to predict the sales and demand accurately. There are certain events and holidays which impact sales on each day. There are sales data available for 45 stores of Walmart. The business is facing a challenge due to unforeseen demands and runs out of stock some times, due to the inappropriate machine learning algorithm. An ideal ML algorithm will predict demand accurately and ingest factors like economic conditions including CPI, Unemployment Index, etc.

Walmart runs several promotional markdown events throughout the year. These markdowns precede prominent holidays, the four largest of all, which are the Super Bowl, Labour Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The weeks including these holidays are weighted five times higher in the evaluation than non-holiday weeks. Part of the challenge presented by this competition is modeling the effects of markdowns on these holiday weeks in the absence of complete/ideal historical data. Historical sales data for 45 Walmart stores located in different regions are available.

    Acknowledgements

The dataset is taken from Kaggle.

    Objective:

    • Understand the Dataset & cleanup (if required).
    • Build Regression models to predict the sales w.r.t single & multiple features.
    • Also evaluate the models & compare their respective scores like R2, RMSE, etc.

    Description

Swings in the economy have a limited impact on warehouse clubs and supercenters because these retail establishments offer low-priced goods. When consumer sentiment is high, shoppers spend more time visiting industry retailers and buying extra items. Conversely, when consumer sentiment is low, warehouse clubs and superstores draw a larger pool of consumers as households seek to cut expenses by buying in bulk for the future. Many of these retailers have been able to attract and retain more business by offering memberships and reward programs that disincentivize consumers to visit the competition. Revenue for warehouse clubs and supercenters is expected to climb at a CAGR of 3.2% to $771.1 billion through the end of 2025, including growth of 2.8% in 2025 alone. In the same year, profit will account for 3.5% of revenue, a dip from 2020 because of strong competitive forces and inflation. Online companies can undercut traditional warehouse clubs and supercenters' prices by taking advantage of lower operational costs. The brick-and-mortar warehouse clubs and supercenters incur higher operational costs than online-based businesses because they pay for high-traffic retail space and require employees for daily operations. Retailers are increasingly optimizing their online presence for mobile shopping. Walmart, a leader in the industry, has introduced a competing service known as Walmart+, which costs $98.00 annually. Walmart+ provides members with unlimited free deliveries, fuel discounts and a more streamlined in-store shopping experience via the Scan & Go feature on the Walmart app. Although this service emphasizes increasing Walmart's e-commerce sales, the fuel discounts and access to the Scan & Go feature on the company's app will encourage in-store purchases. Warehouse clubs and supercenters' revenue will expand as the domestic economy surges. Consumer spending and corporate profit boosts encourage future revenue growth by prompting more consumers to buy club memberships and spend on bulk purchases. Consumption rates will continue to climb across the US, promoting strong foot traffic and these retailers that often sell products in bulk. Nonetheless, increasing online competition will continue to threaten the industry as retailers like Amazon expand their customer base. Revenue for warehouse clubs and supercenters is expected to swell at a CAGR of 2.3% to $862.8 billion through the end of 2030.

KEY DRIVERS The Emergence of Big Data & IoT and Increasing Data Proliferation are driving the market growth One of the most significant drivers of the data quality tools market is the emergence of Big Data and the Internet of Things (IoT). As organizations expand their digital operations, they are increasingly reliant on real-time data collected from a vast network of connected devices, including industrial machines, smart home appliances, wearable tech, and autonomous vehicles. This rapid increase in data sources results in immense volumes of complex, high-velocity data that must be processed and analyzed efficiently. However, the quality of this data often varies due to inconsistent formats, transmission errors, or incomplete inputs. Data quality tools are vital in this context, enabling real-time profiling, validation, and cleansing to ensure reliable insights. For Instance, General Electric (GE), uses data quality solutions across its Predix IoT platform to ensure the integrity of sensor data for predictive maintenance and performance optimization. (Source: https://www.ge.com/news/press-releases/ge-predix-software-platform-offers-20-potential-increase-performance-across-customer#:~:text=APM%20Powered%20by%20Predix%20-%20GE%20is%20expanding,total%20cost%20of%20ownership%2C%20and%20reduce%20operational%20risks.) According to a recent Gartner report, over 60% of companies identified poor data quality as the leading challenge in adopting big data technologies. Therefore, the growing dependence on big data and IoT ecosystems is directly driving the need for robust, scalable, and intelligent data quality tools to ensure accurate and actionable analytics. Another major factor fueling the growth of the data quality tools market is the increasing proliferation of enterprise data across sectors. As organizations accelerate their digital transformation journeys, they generate and collect enormous volumes of structured and unstructured data daily—from internal systems like ERPs and CRMs to external sources like social media, IoT devices, and third-party APIs. If not managed properly, this data can become fragmented, outdated, and error-prone, leading to poor analytics and misguided business decisions. Data quality tools are essential for profiling, cleansing, deduplicating, and enriching data to ensure it remains trustworthy and usable. For Instance, Walmart implemented enterprise-wide data quality solutions to clean and harmonize inventory and customer data across global operations. This initiative improved demand forecasting and streamlined its massive supply chain. (Source: https://tech.walmart.com/content/walmart-global-tech/en_us/blog/post/walmarts-ai-powered-inventory-system-brightens-the-holidays.html). According to a Dresner Advisory Services report, data quality ranks among the top priorities for companies focusing on data governance.(Source: https://www.informatica.com/blogs/2024-dresner-advisory-services-data-analytics-and-governance-and-catalog-market-studies.html) In conclusion, as data volumes continue to skyrocket and data environments grow more complex, the demand for data quality tools becomes critical for enabling informed decision-making, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance.  Restraints One of the primary challenges restraining the growth of the data quality tools market is the lack of skilled personnel wit...

    Description

The e-grocery market is experiencing robust growth, driven by the increasing adoption of online shopping, particularly among younger demographics and busy professionals. Convenience, wider selection, and often competitive pricing compared to brick-and-mortar stores are key factors fueling this expansion. While the packaged foods segment currently dominates, the fresh foods segment is exhibiting faster growth, reflecting consumer demand for high-quality, readily available fresh produce and other perishables delivered directly to their homes. The market is segmented by customer type, with both personal shoppers and business customers contributing significantly to revenue. Leading players like Walmart, Amazon, and Kroger are aggressively investing in technology and logistics to enhance their e-grocery offerings, including features like same-day delivery and personalized recommendations. The rise of quick commerce models, focusing on ultra-fast delivery within hours, is creating further disruption and competition. Geographic expansion into underserved markets and the development of innovative solutions like automated warehouses and delivery systems are also shaping the competitive landscape. While challenges remain, such as managing last-mile delivery costs and addressing consumer concerns about food freshness, the long-term outlook for e-grocery remains exceptionally positive. This sustained growth is further projected to be influenced by the increasing penetration of smartphones and internet access globally, making online grocery shopping increasingly accessible. The regional distribution of the e-grocery market mirrors global trends in internet penetration and e-commerce adoption. North America and Europe currently hold the largest market shares, but rapid growth is projected in Asia-Pacific, particularly in India and China, due to their burgeoning middle classes and increasing smartphone usage. Competition is fierce, with established grocery chains facing challenges from nimble e-commerce giants and smaller, specialized online retailers. Success in this dynamic environment requires a robust technological infrastructure, efficient logistics, and a customer-centric approach that prioritizes convenience, reliability, and a broad selection of products, encompassing both packaged and fresh options. Strategic partnerships with local producers and delivery services are crucial to optimize operations and ensure product freshness. Future growth will be shaped by technological innovation, evolving consumer preferences, and regulatory changes related to food safety and delivery logistics. Ultimately, the e-grocery market is poised for significant expansion throughout the forecast period.
