Ward boundaries within the City of Sydney local government area (LGA) have shifted many times, dramatically affecting the number and character of people entitled to vote. The redrawing of ward boundaries was largely undertaken to redress imbalances as the demographic makeup of the City changed over time. The polygon layer represents the boundaries of each ward and table lists the corresponding assessment books. This data is part of the historic ward boundaries story map.

This web mapping application was created for the City of Eugene Ward Redistricting Process and demonstrated different scenarios for ward boundaries. The application now has the adopted ward boundaries. Updated 12/2021 Map also contains census blocks used in redistricting process and neighborhood boundaries.

Ward precincts, which function as local election districts to determine the polling places for voters, based on their addresses. Precincts are based on U.S. Census Bureau blocks. The Brisbane City Council Local Government Area (LGA) is divided into twenty-six geographic areas called wards, as listed under Schedule 1 of the City of Brisbane Regulation 2012.Each ward is made up of a reasonable proportion of electors in the LGA to ensure democratic representation. The Ward boundaries are set by the Electoral Commission Queensland (ECQ).This resource was created using a file downloaded from the Electoral Commission Queensland (ECQ) website on 6 January 2020.

This dataset is the definitive version of the annually released ward boundaries as at 1 January 2025, as defined by the territorial authorities and/or Local Government Commission and maintained by Stats NZ. This version contains 224 wards, excluding ‘area outside ward’.

Wards are defined under the Local Electoral Act 2001 and result from dividing a territorial authority for electoral purposes. Wards were originally set up within any territorial authority with a population of at least 20,000. The ward system was designed to allow for the recognition of communities within a territorial authority and to increase community involvement in the local government system.

Territorial authorities can now choose whether they would like to maintain electoral wards. As a result, the number of wards has steadily decreased since they were first created in 1989. Ward boundaries are reviewed in the year before the three-yearly local government elections.

Wards are defined at meshblock level, and do not coincide with the statistical area 1 (SA1), statistical area 2 (SA2), or statistical area 3 (SA3) geographies.

Numbering

Wards are numbered based on their corresponding territorial authority. Each ward has a unique five-digit number. The first three digits represent the territorial authority that the ward lies within. The following two digits are sequential and represent the number of wards within a territorial authority. For example, Westland District (057) has three wards, which are coded 05701, 05702, and 05703.

Some territorial authorities do not use wards. In the classification, these territorial authorities use ‘99’ for the last two digits of the ward code, and the descriptor “Area Outside Ward”.

This high definition (HD) version is the most detailed geometry, suitable for use in GIS for geometric analysis operations and for the computation of areas, centroids and other metrics. The HD version is aligned to the LINZ cadastre.

Names are provided with and without tohutō/macrons. The column name for those without macrons is suffixed ‘ascii’.

This spatial data set contains the ward and poll boundary polygons for the City of Welland. The city is divided into six wards, each ward has two councillors representing the constituents.

Wards are divided electoral boundaries and are each assigned a voted-in city councillor. There are currently 15 wards.

This dataset consists of a shapefile of administrative boundaries (municipal wards) in Glasgow around 1920, based on 'Map of the City of Glasgow shewing Parliamentary Divisions as fixed in 1918, and Municipal Wards as fixedin 1920'. The map is held in the Glasgow City Archives, reference DTC/13/98.
