    Description

    These GIS data depict navigational routes commonly used in Florida. Many of these routes are officially designated navigational channels or waterways. Others are just well known but unmarked pathways from one location to another. These data were digitized from NOAA Nautical charts (image files) of various dates and map scales, using most detailed charts for the area and feature of interest. Where depicted on the charts, channel centerlines and waterway routes were followed. Otherwise, AToNs depicted on the charts were used as guides to trace navigation pathways. This data set does not depict all navigational pathways but should serve as a start to a more comprehensive data set.

    Description

    This GIS data set represents Florida's West Coast Intracoastal Waterway and the Everglades Waterway. This coverage was created in 2001 by digitizing 1:40000 and 1:50000 scale NOAA Nautical Charts 11411, 11414, 11425, 11427, 11430, 11432, and 11433 in either paper or digital format. In cases where charts overlapped, the smallest-scale charts were used. Source chart dates range from 1989-1995.

This vector shoreline data is based on an office interpretation of imagery that may be suitable as a geographic information system (GIS) data layer. This metadata describes information for both the line and point shapefiles. The NGS attribution scheme 'Coastal Cartographic Object Attribute Source Table (C-COAST)' was developed to conform the attribution of various sources of shoreline data into one attribution catalog. C-COAST is not a recognized standard, but was influenced by the International Hydrographic Organization's S-57 Object-Attribute standard so the data would be more accurately translated into S-57.     The NOAA Office for Coastal Management's Coastal Change Analysis Program, in cooperation with the St. Johns River and South Florida Water Management Districts, used the C-CAP protocol to map SAV and other benthic habitat in Indian River. The project incorporated underwater videography, field point observations, and transect data. Analytical photogrammetry was used to accomplish the mapping. The benthic data is classified according to the System for Classification of Habitats in Estuarine and Marine Environments (SCHEME). This system is fully described in "Development of a System for Classification of Habitats in Estuarine and Marine Environments (SCHEME) for Florida, Report to U.S. EPA - Gulf of Mexico Program, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Marine Research Institute.Review Draft 12/04/02."     SWFWMD regularly uses digital topographic information to support regulatory, land management and acquisition, planning, engineering and habitat restoration projects. LiDAR data will support hydrologic modeling activities associated with the FederalEmergency Management Agency (FEMA), and in the creation of Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps(DFIRM). The LiDAR data will support the creation of Federal Emergency Management AgencyFlood Insurance Rate Maps (FEMA FIRM) and an integrated ground and surface water model for thePeace River watershed. The data were classified into 7 classifications; (1) unclassified, (2) ground, (6) buildings, (9) water, (11) wetlands (reclassed by OCM to 18), (13) bridges (reclassed by OCM to 15), and (20) buffer points (reclassed by OCM to 10).

These GIS data depict navigational routes commonly used in Florida. Many of these routes are officially designated navigational channels or waterways. Others are just well known but unmarked pathways from one location to another. These data were digitized from NOAA Nautical charts (image files) of various dates and map scales, using most detailed charts for the area and feature of interest. Where depicted on the charts, channel centerlines and waterway routes were followed. Otherwise, AToNs depicted on the charts were used as guides to trace navigation pathways. This data set does not depict all navigational pathways but should serve as a start to a more comprehensive data set.
