TwitterThe Color Parcel Basemap provides a consumer representation of parcel information that can be used without the aerial photo. The layers in the map provide context for multiple workflows, such as editing data or producing web maps and include roads, major facilities and landmarks, water features, parcels, and boundaries. It is compiled from mapping activities performed in Waukesha County as well as the Cities of Brookfield, Muskego, New Berlin, and Waukesha. Parcel discrepancies from the four municipalities should be directed to City staff for correction.

TwitterThe Land Resources Division of the Department of Parks and Land Use at Waukesha County oversees a multi-jurisdictional recycling program that includes 27 municipalities within its borders. One of the biggest challenges of this program is educating the public on what materials are permitted for recycling. Vendors that purchase the recyclables are becoming increasingly stringent on contamination percentages in each bale of recycled materials. The Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) employs a large staff of sorters whose job it is to minimize the contaminants as they stream by on large, fast moving conveyors.Unacceptable materials residents place in recycling bins are the source of contamination. Plastic bags, hoses, and propane tanks are just a few examples of these materials. Highly noncompliant materials such as bowling balls, automotive brake rotors, and even deer carcasses have come through the sorting line at the MRF. In addition to the cost of sorting and properly disposing of these items, left unsorted they can potentially damage expensive sorting and compacting equipment and cause bottlenecks in processing as repairs are conducted.

TwitterIn 2012 a joint project was started by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) and University of Wisconsin –Milwaukee (UWM) to support MMSD’s Integrated Regional Stormwater Management Program. Digital copies of scans of various historical map sources were collected and georeferenced to Wisconsin State Plane Coordinate Systems (NAD 1927 and NAD 1983). Historical streams and water features in the Milwaukee area were mapped to a geographic information system (GIS). Water features were identified and digitized from the scanned source maps. These features included:Stream lines River lines Lake Michigan Shoreline Pond boundaries Lake boundaries Swamp or marsh boundaries Spring locations An Esri ArcGIS geodatabase was created to house the digitized features and associated attributes as delineated in the scanned source maps. Geographic coverage area: Milwaukee County; Portions of Waukesha, Ozaukee, and Washington CountySource map used for this data:Board of Commissioners of Public Lands and the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, 1835-37, Wisconsin Public Land Survey Records Original Field Notes and Plat Maps, available at https://digicoll.library.wisc.edu/SurveyNotes/SurveyNotesHome.html.
