School level revenue balances for all local authority maintained schools by local authority.

These tatistics describing the total revenue balances (showing both committed and uncommitted revenue balances) and also the total revenue balances as a proportion of the total revenue income for LA maintained schools.

Tables from 1990/00 onwards available on Department for Education website.

A schools total revenue income for the year includes all revenue funding available to the year as well as any additional income generated by the school. This does not include any revenue balances carried forward from previous years.

Please note that although figures are shown here for committed and uncommitted balances there is considerable variation in how these are defined at local level meaning that at national level this comparison is not consistent or meaningful. Great caution should therefore be used in interpreting these figures.

The tables form part of annual series of school balances statistics which have been published on the Department's Every Child Matters website.

The files included on this page contain a description of the datasets that were used for this project, along with information about how access can be requested. They also contain the code repositories used to collect, prepare, and analyze the data. The abstract for the paper is below:Parents often select schools by relying on subjective assessments of quality made by other parents, which are increasingly becoming available through written reviews on school ratings websites. To identify relationships between review content and school quality, we apply recent advances in natural language processing to nearly half a million parent reviews posted for over 50,000 publicly-funded US K-12 schools on a popular ratings website. We find: i) schools in urban areas and those serving affluent families are more likely to receive reviews; ii) review language correlates with standardized test scores—which generally track race and family income—but not school effectiveness, measured by how much students improve in their test scores over time; and iii) the linguistics of reviews reveal several racial and income-based disparities in K-12 education. These findings suggest that parents who reference school reviews may be accessing, and making decisions based on, biased perspectives that reinforce achievement gaps.

    Context

Pennsylvania requires all public schools to administer tests to their students and then reports the results statewide. I had trouble finding all of this data in one place, so I decided to put it together myself.

    Content

Data from the web site, broken down by school.

    Inspiration

I want to use data driven decision making to improve schools.

    Description

The Iowa School Performance Profiles is an online tool showing how public schools performed on required measures. The website was developed to meet both federal and state requirements for publishing online school report cards: The federal Every Student Succeeds Act and House File 215, adopted by Iowa lawmakers in 2013. The website includes: Scores on school accountability measures required under ESSARatings based on those scores: Exceptional, High Performing, Commendable, Acceptable, Needs Improvement, and PriorityIdentification of schools for support and improvement based on accountability scores (Comprehensive and Targeted schools)Additional education data that must be reported by law but do not figure into school accountability scores To learn more about school scores, measures, rankings and other data, visit the “Help” section for a user guide, technical guide and other resources.

Description

This layer serves as the authoritative geographic data source for California's K-12 public school locations during the 2023-24 academic year. Schools are mapped as point locations and assigned coordinates based on the physical address of the school facility. The school records are enriched with additional demographic and performance variables from the California Department of Education's data collections. These data elements can be visualized and examined geographically to uncover patterns, solve problems and inform education policy decisions. The schools in this file represent a subset of all records contained in the CDE's public school directory database. This subset is restricted to K-12 public schools that were open in October 2023 to coincide with the official 2023-24 student enrollment counts collected on Fall Census Day in 2023 (first Wednesday in October). This layer also excludes nonpublic nonsectarian schools and district office schools. The CDE's California School Directory provides school location other basic school characteristics found in the layer's attribute table. The school enrollment, demographic and program data are collected by the CDE through the California Longitudinal Achievement System (CALPADS) and can be accessed as publicly downloadable files from the Data & Statistics web page on the CDE website. Schools are assigned X, Y coordinates using a quality controlled geocoding and validation process to optimize positional accuracy. Most schools are mapped to the school structure or centroid of the school property parcel and are individually verified using aerial imagery or assessor's parcels databases. Schools are assigned various geographic area values based on their mapped locations including state and federal legislative district identifiers and National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) locale codes.
