Follow up emails and texts are also sent to encourage participation. A link to the survey is provided with each communication. To prevent people who do not live in Tempe or who were not selected as part of the random sample from completing the survey, everyone who completed the survey was required to provide their address. These addresses were then matched to those used for the random representative sample. If the respondent’s address did not match, the response was not used. To better understand how services are being delivered across the city, individual results were mapped to determine overall distribution across the city. Additionally, demographic data were used to monitor the distribution of responses to ensure the responding population of each survey is representative of city population. The result of these two adjustments ensure that they are not related to a specific address, but are still close enough to allow insights about service delivery in different areas of the city. Abstract: The aim of this study is to gain insights into the attitudes of the population towards big data practices and the factors influencing them. To this end, a nationwide survey (N = 1,331), representative of the population of Germany, addressed the attitudes about selected big data practices exemplified by four scenarios, which may have a direct impact on the personal lifestyle. The scenarios contained price discrimination in retail, credit scoring, differentiations in health insurance, and differentiations in employment. The attitudes about the scenarios were set into relation to demographic characteristics, personal value orientations, knowledge about computers and the internet, and general attitudes about privacy and data protection. Another focus of the study is on the institutional framework of privacy and data protection, because the realization of benefits or risks of big data practices for the population also depends on the knowledge about the rights the institutional framework provided to the population and the actual use of those rights. As results, several challenges for the framework by big data practices were confirmed, in particular for the elements of informed consent with privacy policies, purpose limitation, and the individuals’ rights to request information about the processing of personal data and to have these data corrected or erased. TechnicalRemarks: TYPE OF SURVEY AND METHODS The data set includes responses to a survey conducted by professionally trained interviewers of a social and market research company in the form of computer-aided telephone interviews (CATI) from 2017-02 to 2017-04. The target population was inhabitants of Germany aged 18 years and more, who were randomly selected by using the sampling approaches ADM eASYSAMPLe (based on the Gabler-Häder method) for landline connections and eASYMOBILe for mobile connections. The 1,331 completed questionnaires comprise 44.2 percent mobile and 55.8 percent landline phone respondents. Most questions had options to answer with a 5-point rating scale (Likert-like) anchored with ‘Fully agree’ to ‘Do not agree at all’, or ‘Very uncomfortable’ to ‘Very comfortable’, for instance. Responses by the interviewees were weighted to obtain a representation of the entire German population (variable ‘gewicht’ in the data sets). To this end, standard weighting procedures were applied to reduce differences between the sample and the entire population with regard to known rates of response and non-response depending on household size, age, gender, educational level, and place of residence. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) provides data and have considerable potential to study the health and environmental exposure of the non-institutionalized US population. However, as NHANES data are plagued with multiple inconsistencies, processing these data is required before deriving new insights through large-scale analyses. Thus, we developed a set of curated and unified datasets by merging 614 separate files and harmonizing unrestricted data across NHANES III (1988-1994) and Continuous (1999-2018), totaling 135,310 participants and 5,078 variables. Although Jordan’s economy is dominated by micro and small enterprises (MSEs), relatively little is known about them. To overcome this informational gap, USAID LENS conducted a survey of MSEs in 2014, 2015, and 2018 to better understand Jordanian enterprises and to assess the major barriers and opportunities for growth. The study covers general demographics, workforce trends, firm performance, access to finance, processes and networks, and the impact of the Syrian refugee crisis.The survey consists of a range of questions in a two-stage design with stratification. The data gathers representative information for all MSEs operating in the governorates of Amman (excluding the Greater Amman Municipality), Zarqa, Irbid, Karak, Tafilah, and Aqaba (excluding the ASEZA free zone). Although the study is not intended to be national in scope, the target population of the six areas collectively capture 60% of the kingdom’s population.As a complex survey, the research design was undertaken using probability sampling in two phases. In the first phase, 977 geographic clusters were randomly selected from districts in each area. From these clusters, 97,347 households were contacted through door-to-door interviews, of which 10,197 reported owning a business. A sub-sample of 6,385 MSEs was then drawn, stratified by sector governorate. 4,721 of these MSEs were then successfully surveyed in wave I (2014/15) and 1699 in wave II (2018). The results can reliably be generalized to all MSEs within this geographic boundary. For more details, see the weighting report (2018)The public release of the MSE Survey (2018) includes the majority of the data collected in the core 2018 sample. However, to protect privacy of respondents, a number of sensitive and identifying variables have been omitted and generalized. The Survey of Household Spending provides detailed information on household expenditures, dwelling characteristics, and ownership of household equipment. Data were collected via personal interviews conducted in January through March 2002 using a paper questionnaire. Information was gathered about the spending habits, dwelling characteristics and household equipment of Canadian households during 2001. The survey covered private households in the 10 provinces and three territories. (In o rder to reduce response burden for northern households, the SHS is conducted in the north only every second year, starting in 1999.) The Survey of Household Spending (first conducted for the 1997 reference year) includes most of the content from the former Family Expenditure Survey and the Household Facilities and Equipment Survey. Detailed information was collected about expenditures for consumer goods and services, changes in assets, mortgages and other loans, and annual income. This information was collected for the calendar year 2001 (the survey reference year). Information was also collected about dwelling characteristics (e.g., type and age of heating equipment) and household equipment (e.g., appliances, communications equipment, and vehicles). This type of information was collected as of December 31st of the reference year. For 2001 only, extra questions were included in the survey so that data from the SHS could be used in the weighting of the Consumer Price Index. This change may affect historical comparisons for a few variables. There were also new questions added to the 2001 SHS. The expenditure questions covered yarn and thread, regular and other leasing fees for vehicles, and cable and satellite services. Questions were also added about the presence in the home of a satellite dish, DVD player or CD wr iter, and the type of Internet connection.
