    The Digital Surficial Geologic-GIS Map of Gauley River National Recreation Area, West Virginia is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables, and is available in the following GRI-supported GIS data formats: 1.) an ESRI file geodatabase (gari_surficial_geology.gdb), a 2.) Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) geopackage, and 3.) 2.2 KMZ/KML file for use in Google Earth, however, this format version of the map is limited in data layers presented and in access to GRI ancillary table information. The file geodatabase format is supported with a 1.) ArcGIS Pro 3.X map file (.mapx) file (gari_surficial_geology.mapx) and individual Pro 3.X layer (.lyrx) files (for each GIS data layer). The OGC geopackage is supported with a QGIS project (.qgz) file. Upon request, the GIS data is also available in ESRI shapefile format. Contact Stephanie O'Meara (see contact information below) to acquire the GIS data in these GIS data formats. In addition to the GIS data and supporting GIS files, three additional files comprise a GRI digital geologic-GIS dataset or map: 1.) a readme file (gari_geology_gis_readme.pdf), 2.) the GRI ancillary map information document (.pdf) file (gari_geology.pdf) which contains geologic unit descriptions, as well as other ancillary map information and graphics from the source map(s) used by the GRI in the production of the GRI digital geologic-GIS data for the park, and 3.) a user-friendly FAQ PDF version of the metadata (gari_surficial_geology_metadata_faq.pdf).     Description

    Tax District Boundaries: Official tax district boundary lines adopted by the WV Legislature in 1978 as a general reference to delineate rural tax district boundaries. The boundaries were drawn from 1:24,000-scale USGS topographic maps in 1978 and coincide with county magisterial districts as of July 1, 1973. Unlike magisterial districts that are realigned every ten years following the census, the tax district boundary does not follow equal representation requirements. In 1978 the West Virginia Geologic and Economical Survey published six 1:500,000-scale maps delineating official county and tax district boundary lines for the State. In 1996 the West Virginia Department of Tax and Revenue, Property Tax Division, converted the 1978 source maps into a digital format and added descriptive attributes for each tax district. In October of 2003, the WV GIS Technical Center appended 24K DLG boundary files and lines drawn from 24K DRGs into a statewide 24K Tax District Boundary dataset. In 2017, WVGISTC has appended this file with parcel data or Census Populated Places boundaries for missing tax districts.

    This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides a digital geospatial database for the Bedrock geology of the Evitts Creek and Patterson Creek quadrangles, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia from the original map of de Witt and Colton, 1964. Attribute tables and geospatial features (points, lines, and polygons) conform to the Geologic Map Schema (GeMS, 2020) and represent the geologic map as published in the U.S. Geological Survey Bulletin 1173 with no adjustments made to any of the map data. The Description of Map Units (DMU) summarizes descriptions of the same lithostratigraphic units from adjacent maps published by the same author in the area and is expanded from the text published in the the original report. Some revisions to stratigraphic nomenclature were made to conform with modern usage. In addition to the GIS data and supporting GIS files, three additional files comprise a GRI digital geologic-GIS dataset or map: 1.) a readme file (neri_geology_gis_readme.pdf), 2.) the GRI ancillary map information document (.pdf) file (neri_geology.pdf) which contains geologic unit descriptions, as well as other ancillary map information and graphics from the source map(s) used by the GRI in the production of the GRI digital geologic-GIS data for the park, and 3.) a user-friendly FAQ PDF version of the metadata (neri_bedrock_geology_metadata_faq.pdf). Please read the neri_geology_gis_readme.pdf for information pertaining to the proper extraction of the GIS data and other map files. Google Earth software is available for free at: https://www.google.com/earth/versions/. QGIS software is available for free at: https://www.qgis.org/en/site/. Users are encouraged to only use the Google Earth data for basic visualization, and to use the GIS data for any type of data analysis or investigation. The data were completed as a component of the Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program, a National Park Service (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Division funded program that is administered by the NPS Geologic Resources Division (GRD). Users of this data are cautioned about the locational accuracy of features within this dataset. Based on the source map scale of 1:24,000 and United States National Map Accuracy Standards features are within (horizontally) 12.2 meters or 40 feet of their actual location as presented by this dataset. Users of this data should thus not assume the location of features is exactly where they are portrayed in Google Earth, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS or other software used to display this dataset.     WVDEP LiDAR data was collected by the Natural Resource Analysis Center at WVU under contract with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Mining and Reclamation.The data was collected between 04/09/2010 and 12/13/2011 during leaf-off, snow and flood free conditions in the spring and fall.The data format is 1.5x1.5 km LAS v1.2 files in UTM 17 NAD83 (CORS96), NAVD88 (GEOID09). Contractor software initially classified ground returns for comprehensive and bare earth tiles, but did not perform other classifications.     The Digital Geologic Map of Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park and Vicinity, District of Columbia, Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia is composed of GIS data layers complete with ArcMap 9.3 layer (.LYR) files, two ancillary GIS tables, a Map PDF document with ancillary map text, figures and tables, a FGDC metadata record and a 9.3 ArcMap (.MXD) Document that displays the digital map in 9.3 ArcGIS. The data were completed as a component of the Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program, a National Park Service (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) funded program that is administered by the NPS Geologic Resources Division (GRD). Source geologic maps and data used to complete this GRI digital dataset were provided by the following: U.S. Geological Survey and Maryland Geological Survey. Detailed information concerning the sources used and their contribution the GRI product are listed in the Source Citation sections(s) of this metadata record (choh_metadata.txt; available at http://nrdata.nps.gov/choh/nrdata/geology/gis/choh_metadata.xml). All GIS and ancillary tables were produced as per the NPS GRI Geology-GIS Geodatabase Data Model v. 2.1. (available at: http://science.nature.nps.gov/im/inventory/geology/GeologyGISDataModel.cfm).     Description

    This metadata is meant to describe the railroads layer of DLGs, but may contain information on other DLG layers. Digital line graph (DLG) data are digital representations of cartographic information. DLG's of map features are converted to digital form from maps and related sources. Large-scale DLG data are available from the West Virginia University GIS Technical Center in six categories: (1) hypsography, (2) hydrography, (3) boundaries, (4) miscellaneous transportation (pipe and transmission lines), (5) roads, (6) railroads. All DLG data distributed by the USGS are DLG - Level 3 (DLG-3), which means the data contain a full range of attribute codes, have full topological structuring, and have passed certain quality-control checks. The files available from the West Virginia University GIS Technical Center are full dlg3 (USGS approved). Files are currently available in dlg and E00 format.

    Geologic-Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data related to Appalachian National Scenic Trail is delivered in a data package Zip (.zip) file. These data are a product of the NPS Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program, which is funded by the Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Division and administered by the NPS Geologic Resources Division (GRD).Geologic-GIS data for Appalachian National Scenic Trail consists of geologic map footprints of available maps that intersect the 7.5’ quadrangles of interest (QOI) for the park. Each footprint depicts the respective map’s extent and contains information conveying map name, scale, publication year and type. The footprints are joined using a footprint ID as a key to a standalone table that contains a formal map reference, a Boolean showing if GIS data is available, additional map notes, and a URL link t o where the map can be downloaded, if available. Geologic-GIS map footprints are provided in ESRI file geodatabase format supported by a Pro 3.X map (.mapx) file. The Pro 3.x map displays the footprint data in thematic layers categorizing and symbolizing the footprints by publication year, map type, and scale.
