In 2008, County GIS developed the Natural Resource Inventory (NRI) map series to provide access to a wide range of environmental data in hardcopy (PDF) format. The countywide maps were generated in a uniform grid and scale (800’) optimized to be printed on 11X17 sized paper. The inventory included a number of environmental features, several of which have been updated since initial publication in 2008. Today, ArcGIS.com technology has made it possible for County GIS to provide the NRIs map series online. Using selected feature layers from the existing and publicly available Environmental Features map service, a new web map was created to include all of the same data in the original NRI map series. The new web map, which also includes the original map grid for reference purposes, will enable users to change base maps, use measuring tools, draw and redline on the map, and access feature attribute data.

The Community Features map service shows the community facilities and services in the Westchester County. The map service includes libraries, municipal buildings, police stations, fire stations and fire districts, public schools and school districts, post offices, hospitals, etc.

This feature service has two layers: 1) NYS Tax Parcels Public, and 2) NYS Tax Parcels Public Footprint which contains polygons representing counties for which tax parcel polygons are available in the NYS Tax Parcels Public layer. County footprint polygons display when zoomed out beyond 1:37,050-scale. Tax parcel polygons display when zoomed in below 1:37,051-scale. The NYS Tax Parcels Public layer contains 2024 parcel data only for NY State counties which gave NYS ITS Geospatial Services permission to share this data with the public. Work to obtain parcel data from additional counties, as well as permission to share the data, is ongoing. To date, 36 counties have provided Geospatial Services permission to share their parcel data with the public. Parcel data for counties which do not allow Geospatial Services to redistribute their data must be obtained directly from those counties. Geospatial Services' goal is to eventually include parcel data for all counties in New York State. Parcel geometry was incorporated as received from County Real Property Departments. No attempt was made to edge-match parcels along adjacent counties. County attribute values were populated using 2024 Assessment Roll tabular data the NYS ITS Geospatial Services obtained from the NYS Department of Tax and Finance’s Office of Real Property Tax Services (ORPTS). Tabular assessment data was joined to the county provided parcel geometry using the SWIS & SBL or SWIS & PRINT KEY unique identifier for each parcel. This data layer represents a comprehensive countywide update to the 2021 major open spaces GIS data layer and map. In 2021, a new category was added, and polygons for each municipality were verified by their respective government officials. There are 13 open space categories, including many smaller properties not previously mapped. Properties classified as Farms derived from the Westchester County Agricultural District established in 2000. The information used to compile the data came from a variety of sources including aerial photography, digital tax parcel data, local recreation, land use, and master plan maps. Other sources included municipal planning departments and consultants, conservation committees, and the Westchester Land Trust.

This dataset identifies areas with steep slopes in two categories used in local planning agencies: slopes 15-25% and slopes over 25% (slope=rise/run).

In July 2020, Westchester County GIS launched the new GeoHub website to make Westchester County geospatial data more organized and accessible to the general public. The site offers an abundance of free County-focused data and maps, including interactive mapping applications, which provide information on specific topics.
