    Description

The Census Tree is the largest-ever database of record links among the historical U.S. censuses, with over 700 million links for people living in the United States between 1850 and 1940. These links allow researchers to construct a longitudinal dataset that is highly representative of the population, and that includes women, Black Americans, and other under-represented populations at unprecedented rates. Each .csv file consists of a crosswalk between the two years indicated in the filename, using the IPUMS histids. Description

This dataset is a census of penguin colony counts from the year 1900 in the Antarctic region. It forms part of the Inventory of Antarctic seabird breeding sites within the Antarctic and subantarctic islands. The Antarctic and subantarctic fauna database (seabirds) is a database detailing the distribution and abundance of breeding localities for Antarctic and Subantarctic seabirds. Each species' compilation was produced by members of the SCAR Bird Biology Subcommittee.

This separate metadata record has been created beacause it represents only the penguin colony counts that have been published to OBIS. Note: The Year (not day or month) date is only relevent in this dataset. The positions that have been published to OBIS include latitude and longitude positions that were not included within the original dataset. The latitude and longitude positions that were not noted by the observer have been created from the locality given by the observer using the Antarctic Composite Gazetteer.

Two spreadsheets are available for download, from the URL given below. The original, unmodified spreadsheet is available, as well as a corrected spreadsheet. In the corrected spreadsheet, the AADC has attempted to reconcile the poorly presented localities into a single column. It is possible that some of these localities may not be correct.

The fields in this dataset are:

SCAR Number Species Region Locality Longitude Latitude Number of Colonies Number of Pairs Type and accuracy of count Data Date References Remarks

These data are further referenced in ANARE Research Notes 9 - see reference below.

    Description

NODC Standard Marine Bird Sighting, Land Census (F034) is one of a group of seven datasets related to Marine Birds from Coastal Alaska and Puget Sound Data (1975 -1980). Each dataset uses the NODC Taxonomic Code to indicate species.

Marine Bird Sighting, Land Census (F034) contains data from field observations of marine birds made along land survey tracks. These data are collected to provide information on population density and distribution and breeding locales. The contents and structure of data type file are similar to Marine Bird Sighting, Aircraft Census (F033), although the transect distance of land surveys will normally be shorter than that of ship and aircraft surveys. In this data type the investigator defines the lateral dimension of survey distance unit (a specified number of whole meters). Start and end position, date and elapsed time, and number of distance units are reported for each survey. Environmental information may include meteorological and adjacent sea surface conditions, distance to nearest shoreline, ice characteristics, and debris, including oil slicks. Species data may include age, sex, color, plumage, number of individuals, flight direction, behavior, and foodsource association. Any number of species may be reported within one observation time span. These data were collected in 1975 - 1980 for coastal Alaska.

For more information, consult the included Read Me file, and visit https://censustree.org.
