    Description

The NHS long term plan includes prioritising work to avoid hospital admissions. Emergency admissions are costly and frequently unpleasant experiences for patients. Many hospital admissions could potentially be avoided if there were care pathways available to support the patient before this became an urgent care concern. These conditions are known as ambulatory care sensitive (ACS) and urgent care sensitive (UCS) conditions. As many patients presenting to emergency departments are aged over 65 years, identifying ACS and UCS conditions in older adults is an NHS priority.

PIONEER, in collaboration with HDR UK, has curated a highly granular dataset of 130,753 Emergency Department admissions specifically for patients aged 65 and older. The dataset includes demographics, presentation, symptoms, investigations, treatments, procedures, operations, and outcomes. Also, care process data such as ward stays, clinical review times, and the healthcare professionals involved in care decisions. While this subset focuses on older adults, a full dataset covering all ages is available. Admissions span from 01-10-2021 to 30-09-2023, with the potential for expansion to other periods of interest.

Geography: The West Midlands has a population of 6 million & includes a diverse ethnic & socio-economic mix. UHB is one of the largest NHS Trusts in England, providing direct acute services & specialist care across four hospital sites, with 2.2 million patient episodes per year, 2750 beds & > 120 ITU bed capacity. UHB runs a fully electronic healthcare record (PICS; Birmingham Systems), a shared primary & secondary care record (Your Care Connected) & a patient portal “My Health”.

Data set availability: Data access is available via the PIONEER Hub for projects which will benefit the public or patients. This can be by developing a new understanding of disease, by providing insights into how to improve care, or by developing new models, tools, treatments, or care processes. Data access can be provided to NHS, academic, commercial, policy and third sector organisations. Applications from SMEs are welcome. There is a single data access process, with public oversight provided by our public review committee, the Data Trust Committee. Contact pioneer@uhb.nhs.uk or visit www.pioneerdatahub.co.uk for more details.

Available supplementary data: Matched controls; ambulance and community data. Unstructured data (images). We can provide the dataset in OMOP and other common data models and can build synthetic data to meet bespoke requirements.

Available supplementary support: Analytics, model build, validation & refinement; A.I. support. Data partner support for ETL (extract, transform & load) processes. Bespoke and “off the shelf” Trusted Research Environment build and run. Consultancy with clinical, patient & end-user and purchaser access/ support. Support for regulatory requirements. Cohort discovery. Data-driven trials and “fast screen” services to assess population size.

    Description

The National Center for Education Statistics' (NCES) Education Demographic and Geographic Estimates (EDGE) program develops annually updated point locations (latitude and longitude) for public elementary and secondary schools included in the NCES Common Core of Data (CCD). The CCD program annually collects administrative and fiscal data about all public schools, school districts, and state education agencies in the United States. The data are supplied by state education agency officials and include basic directory and contact information for schools and school districts, as well as characteristics about student demographics, number of teachers, school grade span, and various other administrative conditions. CCD school and agency point locations are derived from reported information about the physical location of schools and agency administrative offices. The point locations and administrative attributes in this data layer were developed from the 2022-2023 CCD collection. For more information about NCES school point data, see: https://nces.ed.gov/programs/edge/Geographic/SchoolLocations. For more information about these CCD attributes, as well as additional attributes not included, see: https://nces.ed.gov/ccd/files.asp. Notes: -1 or M Indicates that the data are missing. -2 or N Indicates that the data are not applicable. -9 Indicates that the data do not meet NCES data quality standards. All information contained in this file is in the public domain. Data users are advised to review NCES program documentation and feature class metadata to understand the limitations and appropriate use of these data.

    Description

Objective To assess the use of Health Level Seven Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®) for implementing the Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable guiding principles for scientific data (FAIR). Additionally, present a list of FAIR implementation choices for supporting future FAIR implementations that use FHIR. Material and Methods A case study was conducted on the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-IV Emergency Department dataset (MIMIC-ED), a deidentified clinical dataset converted into FHIR. The FAIRness of this dataset was assessed using a set of common FAIR assessment indicators. Results The FHIR distribution of MIMIC-ED, comprising an implementation guide and demo data, was more FAIR compared to the non-FHIR distribution. The FAIRness score increased from 60 to 82 out of 95 points, a relative improvement of 37%. Description of the data and file structure

This dataset describes the indicator scores and qualitative comments of the FAIR data assessment of the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC)-IV Emergency Department Module. Two distributions of the Emergency Department module were assessed, the PhysioNet distribution and the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) distribution. This dataset consists of two files: (1) PhysioNet.csv containing the data of the PhysioNet distribution; and (2) FHIR.csv containing the data of the FHIR distribution. Both files share the same structure and fields.

    Description

The National Center for Education Statistics’ (NCES) Education Demographic and Geographic Estimates (EDGE) program develops annually updated school district boundary composite files that include public elementary, secondary, and unified school district boundaries clipped to the U.S. shoreline. School districts are special-purpose governments and administrative units designed by state and local officials to provide public education for local residents. District boundaries are collected for NCES by the U.S. Census Bureau to develop demographic estimates and to support educational research and program administration. The NCES Common Core of Data (CCD) program is an annual collection of basic administrative characteristics for all public schools, school districts, and state education agencies in the United States. These characteristics are reported by state education officials and include directory information, number of students, number of teachers, grade span, and other conditions. The administrative attributes in this layer were developed from the 2022-2023 CCD collection. For more information about NCES school district boundaries, see: https://nces.ed.gov/programs/edge/Geographic/DistrictBoundaries. For more information about CCD school district attributes, see: https://nces.ed.gov/ccd/files.asp.Notes:-1 or MIndicates that the data are missing.-2 or NIndicates that the data are not applicable.-9Indicates that the data do not meet NCES data quality standards. All information contained in this file is in the public _domain.
