Net annual household income before housing costs (equivalised) is composed of the same elements as net household weekly income but is subject to the OECD’s equivalisation scale. Net annual household income after housing costs (equivalised) is composed of the same elements of net household weekly income but is subject to the following deductions prior to the OECD’s equivalisation scale being applied: rent (gross of housing benefit); water rates, community water charges and council water charges; mortgage interest payments (net of any tax relief); structural insurance premiums (for owner occupiers); and ground rent and service charges. Household income The median household income depicts the income of households, including the income of the householder and all other individuals aged 15 years or over living in the household. Income includes wages and salaries, unemployment insurance, disability payments, child support payments received, regular rental receipts, as well as any personal business, investment, or other kinds of income received routinely. The median household income in the United States varied from state to state. In 2024, Massachusetts recorded the highest median household income in the country, at 113,900 U.S. dollars. On the other hand, Mississippi, recorded the lowest, at 55,980 U.S. dollars.Household income is also used to determine the poverty rate in the United States. In 2024, 10.6 percent of the U.S. population was living below the national poverty line. This was the lowest level since 2019. Similarly, the child poverty rate, which represents people under the age of 18 living in poverty, reached a three-decade low of 14.3 percent of the children. The state with the widest gap between the rich and the poor was New York, with a Gini coefficient score of 0.52 in 2024. The Gini coefficient is calculated by looking at average income rates. A score of zero would reflect perfect income equality, while a score of one indicates complete inequality.

This Households Below Average Income (HBAI) report presents information on living standards in the United Kingdom year on year from financial year ending (FYE) 1995 to FYE 2023.
It provides estimates on the number and percentage of people living in low-income households based on their household disposable income. Figures are also provided for children, pensioners, working-age adults and individuals living in a family where someone is disabled.

The statistics in this report come from the Family Resources Survey, a representative survey of 25 thousand households in the UK in FYE 2023.
In the 2022 to 2023 HBAI release, one element of the low-income benefits and tax credits Cost of Living Payment was not included, which impacted on the Family Resources based publications and therefore HBAI income estimates for this year.
Revised 2022 to 2023 data has been included in the time series and trend tables in the 2023 to 2024 HBAI release. Stat-Xplore and the underlying dataset has also been updated to reflect the revised 2022 to 2023 data. Please use the data tables in the 2023 to 2024 HBAI release to ensure you have the revised data for 2022 to 2023.

The estimated median household income and estimated median family income are two separate measures: every family is a household, but not every household is a family. According to the U.S. Census Bureau definitions of the terms, a family “includes a householder and one or more people living in the same household who are related to the householder by birth, marriage, or adoption,”[1] while a household “includes all the people who occupy a housing unit,” including households of just one person[2]. When evaluated together, the estimated median household income and estimated median family income provide a thorough picture of household-level economics in Champaign County.
Both estimated median household income and estimated median family income were higher in 2024 than in 2005. The change in estimated median household income between 2023 and 2024 was not statistically significant. However, the increase in estimated median family income between 2023 and 2024 was statistically significant. Estimated median family income is consistently higher than estimated median household income, largely due to the definitions of each term, and the types of household that are measured and are not measured in each category.
Median income data was sourced from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS) 1-Year Estimates, which are released annually.
As with any datasets that are estimates rather than exact counts, it is important to take into account the margins of error (listed in the column beside each figure) when drawing conclusions from the data.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, instead of providing the standard 1-year data products, the Census Bureau released experimental estimates from the 1-year data. This includes a limited number of data tables for the nation, states, and the District of Columbia. The Census Bureau states that the 2020 ACS 1-year experimental tables use an experimental estimation methodology and should not be compared with other ACS data. For these reasons, and because data is not available for Champaign County, no data for 2020 is included in this Indicator.
For interested data users, the 2020 ACS 1-Year Experimental data release includes datasets on Median Household Income in the Past 12 Months (in 2020 Inflation-Adjusted Dollars) and Median Family Income in the Past 12 Months (in 2020 Inflation-Adjusted Dollars).

TwitterThe Derived Current and Annual Net Household Income dataset provides derived net income variables for the British Household Panel Survey (BHPS). It is an unofficial supplement to the set of derived income variables in the official BHPS release (which focus on gross income rather than net income). The purpose of these additional files is to provide an analysis of income and poverty dynamics in Britain, and related topics.
The aim of the research was to produce a longitudinal complement to the cross-section income distribution information provided by the Department of Social Security's (DSS) Households Below Average Income (HBAI) reports, and to this end the HBAI definition of net income (DSS, 1993) has been closely adhered to. Also included in the data are BHPS versions of HBAI family type and economic status variables.
It is recommended that these data are used in conjunction with the main BHPS dataset, held at the UKDA under SN 5151.
The original deposit of this dataset was made in 1999, and contained data from BHPS waves 1-7. Subsequent editions were updated in conjunction with successive waves of BHPS. For the eighth edition (November 2008), new data for Waves 15 and 16 have been added to the study and data for Waves 1–14 and the documentation have been updated. For the ninth edition (April 2012), new data for Waves 17 and 18 have been added and the documentation has been updated accordingly.

The primary measure is the Gini index – a measure of the extent to which the distribution of income among families/households within a community deviates from a perfectly equal distribution. The index ranges from 0.0, when all families (households) have equal shares of income (implies perfect equality), to 1.0 when one family (household) has all the income and the rest have none (implies perfect inequality). Index data is provided for California and its counties, regions, and large cities/towns. The data is from the U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey. The table is part of a series of indicators in the Healthy Communities Data and Indicators Project of the Office of Health Equity. Income is linked to acquiring resources for healthy living. Both household income and the distribution of income across a society independently contribute to the overall health status of a community. On average Western industrialized nations with large disparities in income distribution tend to have poorer health status than similarly advanced nations with a more equitable distribution of income. Approximately 119,200 (5%) of the 2.4 million U.S. deaths in 2000 are attributable to income inequality. The pathways by which income inequality act to increase adverse health outcomes are not known with certainty, but policies that provide for a strong safety net of health and social services have been identified as potential buffers.
