The Collecting Taxes Database contains performance and structural indicators about national tax systems. The database contains quantitative revenue performance indicators, such as how well a particular tax performs in generating revenues for the treasury, given its overall rate structure, and how well the overall tax system produces revenues, given the costs of administering the tax system. The database also provides tax rate information, such as the general VAT rate or the general corporate income tax rate. Other indicators describe the main features of tax administrations and economic indicators are included so that performance, rate competitiveness, and structure can be compared given the levels of country development and other factors.

    Description

The OECD Income Distribution database (IDD) has been developed to benchmark and monitor countries' performance in the field of income inequality and poverty. It contains a number of standardised indicators based on the central concept of "equivalised household disposable income", i.e. the total income received by the households less the current taxes and transfers they pay, adjusted for household size with an equivalence scale. While household income is only one of the factors shaping people's economic well-being, it is also the one for which comparable data for all OECD countries are most common. Income distribution has a long-standing tradition among household-level statistics, with regular data collections going back to the 1980s (and sometimes earlier) in many OECD countries. Achieving comparability in this field is a challenge, as national practices differ widely in terms of concepts, measures, and statistical sources. In order to maximise international comparability as well as inter-temporal consistency of data, the IDD data collection and compilation process is based on a common set of statistical conventions (e.g. on income concepts and components). The information obtained by the OECD through a network of national data providers, via a standardized questionnaire, is based on national sources that are deemed to be most representative for each country. Small changes in estimates between years should be treated with caution as they may not be statistically significant. Fore more details, please refer to: https://www.oecd.org/els/soc/IDD-Metadata.pdf and https://www.oecd.org/social/income-distribution-database.htm

The OECD Tax Statistics provide detailed annual information on tax and other government revenues for the period 1955 onwards for all OECD countries (where data is available).

The OECD Tax Statistics are presented in the following datasets (some tables will include missing data):

    Revenue Statistics

Data on government sector receipts and on taxes in particular, are basic inputs to most structural economic descriptions and economic analyses and are increasingly used in international comparisons. These databases give a conceptual framework to define which government receipts should be regarded as taxes and to classify different types of taxes. They present a unique set of detailed and internationally comparable tax data in a common format for all OECD countries from 1955 onwards. The countries covered are Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, and United States.

    Revenue Statistics in Latin America

Data on government sector receipts and on taxes in particular, are basic inputs to most structural economic descriptions and economic analyses and are increasingly used in international comparisons. These databases give a conceptual framework to define which government receipts should be regarded as taxes and to classify different types of taxes. The data covers the years starting from 1990 extending until 2010. The countries covered are Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

    Taxing Wages

Taxing Wages provides unique information on income tax paid by workers and on social security contributions levied upon employees and their employers in OECD countries. Family benefits paid as cash transfers are specified. Amounts of taxes and benefits are detailed programme by programme, for eight household types which differ by income level and household composition. Results reported include the marginal and effective tax burden for one- and two-earner families, and total labour costs of employers. The data covers the years starting from 2000 extending until 2012. The countries covered are Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, and United States.

    Taxes and benefits

The Benefits and Wages series addresses the complicated interactions of tax and benefit systems for different family types and labour market situations. The series is a valuable tool used to compare the different benefits made available to those without work and those with different levels of in-work income. It covers 37 countries (29 OECD countries and from 2005 Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta and Slovenia and from 2008 Bulgaria and Romania) for the period 2001-2008. The main social policy areas are as follows: taxes and social security contributions due on earnings and benefits, unemployment benefits, social assistance, family benefits, housing benefits, and in-work benefits. These social policies can be further examined by family type, number of children, first earner, second earner and employment status, 2007 edition of Benefits and Wages, statistics, country specific files and tax-benefit models and calculator, which provide detailed descriptions of all cash benefits available to those in and out of work as well as the taxes they were liable to pay are available on Benefits and Wages. OECD Indicators Data are presented from 2001 onwards. The countries covered are Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta and Romania.

    Fiscal decentralisation

This database includes intergovernmental grants by type and by function as well as tax autonomy:

The intergovernmental grants by type dataset includes statistics on intergovernmental grants by type where the two core types are earmarked which are conditional grants (mandatory, matching, current, capital, non-matching, discretionary) and non-earmarked which are unconditional grants (mandatory, general purpose, block grants, discretionary). Bureau of Economic Analysis. Local Areas Personal Income and Employment: Farm Income and Expenses (CA45) | Line Code: CA45.130 | Finance Line Item: Government payments, 1969 - 2011. Data-Planet™ Statistical Datasets by Conquest Systems, Inc. Dataset-ID: 003-017-012 Dataset: Presents annual estimates of farm income and expenses for states and counties in the United States. Farm Income comprises the net income of sole proprietors, partners, and hired laborers arising directly from the current production of agricultural commodities, either livestock or crops. It includes net farm proprietors' income and the wages and salaries, pay-in-kind, and supplements to wages and salaries of hired farm laborers, but specifically excludes the income of farm corporations. Farm production expenses are expenditures incurred by farm operators in the production of agricultural commodities, including livestock and crops. The major categories of production expenses are intermediate product expenses, which provide inputs to the production process (feed, livestock and poultry, seed, fertilizer, etc.), labor expenses, and other expenses (interest, net rent paid to non-operator landlords, capital consumption, property taxes, etc.). Presents annual estimates of personal income and employment for states and counties in the Untied States. These estimates are developed as part of the Bureau of Economic Analysis Regional Economic Accounts program. Estimates of compensation and earning by industry and place of work indicate the economic activity of establishments within the local area. Estimates of personal income by place of residence provide a measure of fiscal capacity and an indicator of the economic well-being of the residents of an area. The county estimates of personal income are designed to be conceptually and statistically consistent with the national estimates of personal income in the National Income and Product Accounts (NIPA). Differences between the NIPA estimates and the regional accounts estimates are due to differences in coverage and timing of the availability of source data; eg, the NIPA measure of personal income is broader than county personal income. The state and county personal income and employment estimates are based primarily on administrative records data, and also use some survey and census data. Note that, effective with the November 21, 2013 release of BEA's LAPI statistics, the following statistical detail will not be updated or made available: 1) local area employment by industry; 2) statistics for "BEA Economic Areas"; 3) detailed statistics on personal current transfer receipts; and 4) detailed statistics on farm income and expenses. In addition, industry detail on compensation and earnings has been reduced from 108 industries to 25 industries. The impact of sequestration and reduced FY 2013 funding levels for the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) have required reductions in the Bureau's local area personal income (LAPI) program. http://www.bea.gov/iTable/index_regional.cfm Category: Population and Income, Agriculture and Food Subject: Expenses, Agriculture, Personal Income, Farm Income Source: Bureau of Economic Analysis The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) is part of the Department of Commerce Economics and Statistics Administration. BEA produces economic accounts statistics that enable government and business decisionmakers, researchers, and the public to follow and understand the performance of the United States economy. BEA economic statistics are key ingredients in critical decisions affecting monetary policy, tax and budget projections, and business investment plans. The cornerstone of BEA's statistics is the national income and product accounts (NIPAs), which feature the estimates of gross domestic product (GDP) and related measures. BEA prepares national, regional, industry, and international accounts that present essential information on such key issues as economic growth, regional economic development, interindustry relationships, and the nation's position in the world economy. http://www.bea.gov/

Uses data from financial statements that Spanish firms must submit by law to the Commercial Registry (Registro Mercantil) and also report to the tax authority. The data is available from 1995 when compilation officially started. It has a panel structure covering more than 80% of registered businesses in Spain with operating revenue between 3 and 9 million euros for the period 1995-2007. Among reporting firms, the “Banco de España” dataset identifies some firms as having “unreliable data”, often because of rounding issues or inconsistent reporting. We drop these firms (about 7% of the total) and obtain a final dataset of 285,570 firms with reported revenue between 3 and 9 million euros in the period 1995-2007.
    Description

The project analyses the effects of size-dependent tax enforcement on firm's tax compliance. The empirical analysis, uses data from financial statements that Spanish firms must submit by law to the Commercial Registry ("Registro Mercantil"). The Banco de España compiles and digitises this information since 1995, creating a confidential administrative dataset. This dataset contains firm-level information on annual net operating revenue, input expenditures, number of employees, payroll taxes, total value added, and the tax base and liability in the corporate income tax, making it possible to analyze multiple margins of firms’ responses to the tax enforcement threshold. The dataset covers more than 80% of registered businesses in Spain with operating revenue between 3 and 9 million euros (the relevant range in our analysis) for the period 1995-2007, during which the LTU threshold remained constant at 6 million.
