Until the 1800s, population growth was incredibly slow on a global level. The global population was estimated to have been around 188 million people in the year 1CE, and did not reach one billion until around 1803. However, since the 1800s, a phenomenon known as the demographic transition has seen population growth skyrocket, reaching eight billion people in 2023, and this is expected to peak at over 10 billion in the 2080s.

    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the data for the Three Oaks Township, Michigan population pyramid, which represents the Three Oaks township population distribution across age and gender, using estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2018-2022 5-Year Estimates. It lists the male and female population for each age group, along with the total population for those age groups. Higher numbers at the bottom of the table suggest population growth, whereas higher numbers at the top indicate declining birth rates. Furthermore, the dataset can be utilized to understand the youth dependency ratio, old-age dependency ratio, total dependency ratio, and potential support ratio.

    Key observations

    • Youth dependency ratio, which is the number of children aged 0-14 per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Three Oaks Township, Michigan, is 33.7.
    • Old-age dependency ratio, which is the number of persons aged 65 or over per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Three Oaks Township, Michigan, is 31.9.
    • Total dependency ratio for Three Oaks Township, Michigan is 65.6.
    • Potential support ratio, which is the number of youth (working age population) per elderly, for Three Oaks Township, Michigan is 3.1.

    Description

Key figures on the population of the Netherlands.

The following information is available: - Population by sex; - Population by marital status; - Population by age (groups); - Population by origin; - Private households; - Persons in institutional households; - Population growth; - Population density.

CBS is in transition towards a new classification of the population by origin. Greater emphasis is now placed on where a person was born, aside from where that person’s parents were born. The term ‘migration background’ is no longer used in this regard. The main categories western/non-western are being replaced by categories based on continents and a few countries that share a specific migration history with the Netherlands. The new classification is being implemented gradually in tables and publications on population by origin.

Data available from: 1950 Figures on population by origin are only available from 2022 at this moment. The periods 1996 through 2021 will be added to the table at a later time.

Status of the figures: All the figures are final.

Changes as of 17 July 2024: Final figures with regard to population growth for 2023 and final figures of the population on 1 January 2024 have been added.

Changes as of 26 April 2023: None, this is a new table. This table succeeds the table Population; key figures; 1950-2022. See section 3. The following changes have been implemented compared to the discontinued table: - The topic folder 'Population by migration background' has been replaced by 'Population by origin'; - The underlying topic folders regarding 'first and second generation migration background' have been replaced by 'Born in the Netherlands' and 'Born abroad'; - The origin countries Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey have been assigned to the continent of Asia (previously Europe).

When will new figures be published? In the last quarter of 2025 final figures with regard to population growth for 2024 and final figures of the population on 1 January 2025 will be added.

    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the Pawleys Island population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of Pawleys Island across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

In 2023, the population of Pawleys Island was 135, a 1.50% increase year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, Pawleys Island population was 133, an increase of 0.76% compared to a population of 132 in 2021. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2023, population of Pawleys Island decreased by 3. In this period, the peak population was 141 in the year 2008. The numbers suggest that the population has already reached its peak and is showing a trend of decline. Source: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates Program (PEP).

                  Instagram’s Global Audience

As of January 2024, Instagram was the fourth most popular social media platform globally, reaching two billion monthly active users (MAU). This number is projected to keep growing with no signs of slowing down, which is not a surprise as the global online social penetration rate across all regions is constantly increasing.
As of January 2024, the country with the largest Instagram audience was India with 362.9 million users, followed by the United States with 169.7 million users.

Who is winning over the generations?

Even though Instagram’s audience is almost twice the size of TikTok’s on a global scale, TikTok has shown itself to be a fierce competitor, particularly amongst younger audiences. TikTok was the most downloaded mobile app globally in 2022, generating 672 million downloads. As of 2022, Generation Z in the United States spent more time on TikTok than on Instagram monthly.

    Introduction

Continuously monitoring global population spatial dynamics is essential for implementing effective policies related to sustainable development, such as epidemiology, urban planning, and global inequality.

Here, we present GlobPOP, a new continuous global gridded population product with a high-precision spatial resolution of 30 arcseconds from 1990 to 2020. Our data-fusion framework is based on cluster analysis and statistical learning approaches, which intends to fuse the existing five products(Global Human Settlements Layer Population (GHS-POP), Global Rural Urban Mapping Project (GRUMP), Gridded Population of the World Version 4 (GPWv4), LandScan Population datasets and WorldPop datasets to a new continuous global gridded population (GlobPOP). The spatial validation results demonstrate that the GlobPOP dataset is highly accurate. To validate the temporal accuracy of GlobPOP at the country level, we have developed an interactive web application, accessible at https://globpop.shinyapps.io/GlobPOP/, where data users can explore the country-level population time-series curves of interest and compare them with census data.

With the availability of GlobPOP dataset in both population count and population density formats, researchers and policymakers can leverage our dataset to conduct time-series analysis of population and explore the spatial patterns of population development at various scales, ranging from national to city level.

    Data description

The product is produced in 30 arc-seconds resolution(approximately 1km in equator) and is made available in GeoTIFF format. There are two population formats, one is the 'Count'(Population count per grid) and another is the 'Density'(Population count per square kilometer each grid)

Each GeoTIFF filename has 5 fields that are separated by an underscore "_". A filename extension follows these fields. The fields are described below with the example filename:

    GlobPOP_Count_30arc_1990_I32

    Field 1: GlobPOP(Global gridded population)
Field 2: Pixel unit is population "Count" or population "Density"
Field 3: Spatial resolution is 30 arc seconds
    Field 4: Year "1990"
    Field 5: Data type is I32(Int 32) or F32(Float32)

    Description

apportionments_pop_2021_pred_2024.xlsx This is a dataset containing prediction apportionments of seats for the 2024 election of the European Parliament (EP). This prediction is based on population data from the 2021 census held by Eurostat. See our paper for the standard function, configurations of parameters, and d-rounding rules we used for calculation. Note: We recommend readers who are not so well informed about apportionment problems and rounding rules see https://www.census.gov/library/video/2021/what-is-apportionment.html or https://www.census.gov/history/www/reference/apportionment/methods_of_apportionment.html.

Data interpretations for this dataset are as follows. 4 worksheets: all: prediction apportionment results of all configurations under the assumption that the membership remains unchanged and the total number of seats is between 705 (current total number of seats) and 750 (statutory threshold). no_lose: prediction apportionment results under the following assumptions: (1) the membership remains unchanged; (2) any Member State does not lose any seats from the current distribution of seats; (3) and the total number of seats is between 705 and 750. increase_no_lose: prediction apportionment results under the following assumptions: (1) the membership remains unchanged; (2) any Member State with an increasing population does not lose any seats from the current distribution of seats; (3) and the total number of seats is between 705 and 750. response: prediction apportionment results under the following assumptions: (1) the membership remains unchanged; (2) any Member State with an increasing population does not lose any seats from the current distribution of seats while any Member State with a decreasing population does not gain seats; (3) and the total number of seats is between 705 and 750. Meanings of column names: State: name of Member State of the European Union p_2011: population data from the 2011 census (data source: https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/population-demography/population-housing-censuses/database) p_2021: population data from the 2021 census (data source: https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics-explained/index.php?title=Population_and_housing_census_2021_-_population_grids&stable=1#Distribution_of_European_population) stat_2020: current distribution of seats in the EP (data source: https://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/en/headlines/eu-affairs/20180126STO94114/infographic-how-many-seats-does-each-country-get-in-in-the-european-parliament) other columns: composed in the order of "a", "gamma", "d-rounding rule", and "the total number of seats (S)".

indexes_pop_2021_pred_2024.csv This is a dataset presenting the extent of the PSI-based inequality index (index based on Population Seat Index) and the conventional PSP-based index (index based on the proportion of seats to population) of all prediction apportionments of seats for the 2024 election of the European Parliament (EP). This prediction is based on population data from the 2021 census held by Eurostat. See our paper for the standard function, configurations of parameters, and d-rounding rules used for calculation and the PSI-based index and PSP-based index used for evaluation. Data interpretations for this dataset are as follows. Meanings of column names: a: configuration of the standard function gamma: configuration of the standard function rounding: d-rounding rule used for obtaining a whole number S: the total number of seats in the prediction x_min: the minimum number of seats in the prediction apportionment x_max: the maximum number of seats in the prediction apportionment inequality index: maximum of PSI divided by minimum of PSI psp_max/psp_min: maximum of PSP divided by minimum of PSP

    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the data for the Three Lakes, Wisconsin population pyramid, which represents the Three Lakes town population distribution across age and gender, using estimates from the U.S.

    • Youth dependency ratio, which is the number of children aged 0-14 per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Three Lakes, Wisconsin, is 13.2.
    • Old-age dependency ratio, which is the number of persons aged 65 or over per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Three Lakes, Wisconsin, is 60.6.
    • Total dependency ratio for Three Lakes, Wisconsin is 73.8.
    • Potential support ratio, which is the number of youth (working age population) per elderly, for Three Lakes, Wisconsin is 1.6.

Description

This dataset provides population data for all 195 recognized countries over a span of 11 years (2014–2024). Each country's population is projected using a base population from 2014 and realistic annual growth rates ranging between 0.5% and 3%. This dataset is ideal for demographic studies, trend analysis, and data visualization.

The population figures are simulated but based on reasonable assumptions about growth rates to ensure a realistic representation.
