The American Community Survey (ACS) is a uswide survey designed to provide communities a fresh look at how they are changing. The ACS replaced the decennial census long form in 2010 and thereafter by collecting long form type information throughout the decade rather than only once every 10 years. The once-a-decade decennial census was conducted in April 2010 by the U.S. Census Bureau. This count of every resident in the United States was mandated by Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution and all households in the U.S. and individuals living in group quarters were required by law to respond to the 2010 Census questionnaire. The data collected by the decennial census determine the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives and is also used to distribute billions in federal funds to local communities. The questionnaire consisted of a limited number of questions but allowed for the collection of information on the number of people in the household and their relationship to the householder, an individual's age, sex, race and Hispanic ethnicity, the number of housing units and whether those units are owner- or renter-occupied, or vacant. The first wave of results for sub-state geographic areas in New Mexico was released on March 15, 2011, through the Redistricting Data (PL94-171) Summary File. This batch of data covers the state, counties, places (both incorporated and unincorporated communities), tribal lands, school districts, neighborhoods (census tracts and block groups), individual census blocks, and other areas. The Redistricting products provide counts by race and Hispanic ethnicity for the total population and the population 18 years and over, and housing unit counts by occupancy status. The 2010 Census Redistricting Data Summary File can be used to redraw federal, state and local legislative districts under Public Law 94-171. This is an important purpose of the file and, indeed, state officials use the Redistricting Data to realign congressional and state legislative districts in their states, taking into account population shifts since the 2000 Census. This dataset is the proportion of people in the 2018 Census dataset and data sources used to count them by territorial authority / local board (TALB) geography. Coverage compares the proportion of people counted in the census with the number of people that should have been counted on census night. It is usually expressed as a percentage. We are using interim coverage at this time, with the official post-enumeration survey (PES) coverage rates for the 2018 Census being published by March 2020. The dataset shows that whilst there is variation across territorial authority / local board areas in the proportions of people we counted (from 96.3 to >100%), the interim coverage rates for local areas are generally very high. Understanding how we counted people will help you to use the census dataset because it provides more information about the data sources used and the composition of the data in terms of the proportion of: census individual forms received. partial census form responses (via the paper dwelling form or online household summary form but did not receive an individual form for the person). admin enumerations (the use of administrative data to add people to the usually resident census population when a census response has not been received). The higher the proportion of census forms received, the more robust the characteristic data, for example income, occupation, will be within the dataset for variables. This is especially the case where characteristic information cannot be provided from alternative sources such as historic census data, administrative data or imputation. Geographical boundaries
Statistical standard for geographic areas 2023 (updated December 2023) has information about geographic boundaries as of 1 January 2023. Address data from 2013 and 2018 Censuses was updated to be consistent with the 2023 areas. Due to the changes in area boundaries and coding methodologies, 2013 and 2018 counts published in 2023 may be slightly different to those published in 2013 or 2018.
Subnational census usually resident population
The census usually resident population count of an area (subnational count) is a count of all people who usually live in that area and were present in New Zealand on census night. It excludes visitors from overseas, visitors from elsewhere in New Zealand, and residents temporarily overseas on census night. For example, a person who usually lives in Christchurch city and is visiting Wellington city on census night will be included in the census usually resident population count of Christchurch city.
Caution using time series
Time series data should be interpreted with care due to changes in census methodology and differences in response rates between censuses. The 2023 and 2018 Censuses used a combined census methodology (using census responses and administrative data), while the 2013 Census used a full-field enumeration methodology (with no use of administrative data).
About the 2023 Census dataset
For information on the 2023 dataset see Using a combined census model for the 2023 Census. We combined data from the census forms with administrative data to create the 2023 Census dataset, which meets Stats NZ's quality criteria for population structure information. We added real data about real people to the dataset where we were confident the people who hadn’t completed a census form (which is known as admin enumeration) will be counted. We also used data from the 2018 and 2013 Censuses, administrative data sources, and statistical imputation methods to fill in some missing characteristics of people and dwellings.

Stats NZ expects that, when working with census data, it is done so with a positive purpose, as outlined in the Māori Data Governance Model (Data Iwi Leaders Group, 2023). The avoidance of harm is the minimum expectation for data use. Māori data should also contribute to iwi and hapū tino rangatiratanga".
Confidentiality
The 2023 Census confidentiality rules have been applied to 2013, 2018, and 2023 data. These rules protect the confidentiality of individuals, families, households, dwellings, and undertakings in 2023 Census data. Counts are calculated using fixed random rounding to base 3 (FRR3) and suppression of ‘sensitive’ counts less than six, where tables report multiple geographic variables and/or small populations. Individual figures may not always sum to stated totals. Overview This dataset re-shares cartographic and demographic data from the U.S. Census Bureau to provide an obvious supplement to Open Environments Block Group publications.These results do not reflect any proprietary or predictive model. Rather, they extract from Census Bureau results with some proportions and aggregation rules applied. For additional support or more detail, please see the Census Bureau citations below. Cartographics refer to shapefiles shared in the Census TIGER/Line publications. Block Group areas are updated annually, with major revisions accompanying the Decennial Census at the turn of each decade. These shapes are useful for visualizing estimates as a map and relating geographies based upon geo-operations like overlapping. This data is kept in a geodatabase file format and requires the geopandas package and its supporting fiona and DAL software. Demographics are taken from popular variables in the American Community Survey (ACS) including age, race, income, education and family structure. This data simply requires csv reader software or pythons pandas package. While the demographic data has many columns, the cartographic data has a very, very large column called "geometry" storing the many-point boundaries of each shape. So, this process saves the data separately, with demographics columns in a csv file and geometry in a gpd file needed an installation of geopandas, fiona and DAL software. More details on the ACS variables selected and derivation rules applied can be found in the commentary docstrings in the source code found here: https://github.com/OpenEnvironments/blockgroupdemographics. ## Files While the demographic data has many columns, the cartographic data has a very, very large column called "geometry" storing the many-point boundaries of each shape. Geolytics Census 2000 Long Form dataset. The Geolytics Census 2000 Long Form is a comprehensive source of detailed information about the people, housing, and economy of the United States. The Census 2000 Long Form offers the entire US Census Bureau's SF3 dataset. This dataset contains variables such as income, housing, employment, language spoken, ancestry, education, poverty, rent, mortgage, commute to work, etc. There are 5,500 variables at the Block Group level. A select portion of the Geolytics Census data was joined to GDT spatial data by block group and some census attributes were aggregated. See the attached txt file for a description of the attributes. This is part of a collection of 221 Baltimore Ecosystem Study metadata records that point to a geodatabase. The geodatabase is available online and is considerably large. Upon request, and under certain arrangements, it can be shipped on media, such as a usb hard drive. The geodatabase is roughly 51.4 Gb in size, consisting of 4,914 files in 160 folders. Although this metadata record and the others like it are not rich with attributes, it is nonetheless made available because the data that it represents could be indeed useful.

The 2019 Census was sent via email to 18,832 school food authorities (SFAs) including all public, private, and charter SFAs, as well as residential care institutions, participating in the National School Lunch Program. The questionnaire collected data on local food purchasing, edible school gardens, other farm to school activities and policies, and evidence of economic and nutritional impacts of participating in farm to school activities. A total of 12,634 SFAs completed usable responses to the 2019 Census. Version 2 adds the weight variable, “nrweight”, which is the Non-response weight. Processing methods and equipment used The 2019 Census was administered solely via the web. The study team cleaned the raw data to ensure the data were as correct, complete, and consistent as possible. This process involved examining the data for logical errors, contacting SFAs and consulting official records to update some implausible values, and setting the remaining implausible values to missing. The study team linked the 2019 Census data to information from the National Center of Education Statistics (NCES) Common Core of Data (CCD). Records from the CCD were used to construct a measure of urbanicity, which classifies the area in which schools are located. Study date(s) and duration Data collection occurred from September 9 to December 31, 2019. Questions asked about activities prior to, during and after SY 2018-19. The 2019 Census asked SFAs whether they currently participated in, had ever participated in or planned to participate in any of 30 farm to school activities. In order for others to use the information in the Census MAF/TIGER database in a geographic information system (GIS) or for other geographic applications, the Census Bureau releases to the public extracts of the database in the form of TIGER/Line Shapefiles.The TIGER/Line Files are shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) that are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line File is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. Census Blocks are statistical areas bounded on all sides by visible features, such as streets, roads, streams, and railroad tracks, and/or by nonvisible boundaries such as city, town, township, and county limits, and short line-of-sight extensions of streets and roads. Census blocks are relatively small in area; for example, a block in a city bounded by streets. However, census blocks in remote areas are often large and irregular and may even be many square miles in area. A common misunderstanding is that data users think census blocks are used geographically to build all other census geographic areas, rather all other census geographic areas are updated and then used as the primary constraints, along with roads and water features, to delineate the tabulation blocks. As a result, all 2010 Census blocks nest within every other 2010 Census geographic area, so that Census Bureau statistical data can be tabulated at the block level and aggregated up to the appropriate geographic areas. Census blocks cover all territory in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Island Areas (American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Blocks are the smallest geographic areas for which the Census Bureau publishes data from the decennial census. A block may consist of one or more faces.
