    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset presents the median household income across different racial categories in Canadian County. It portrays the median household income of the head of household across racial categories (excluding ethnicity) as identified by the Census Bureau. The dataset can be utilized to gain insights into economic disparities and trends and explore the variations in median houshold income for diverse racial categories.

    Key observations

Based on our analysis of the distribution of Canadian County population by race & ethnicity, the population is predominantly White. This particular racial category constitutes the majority, accounting for 77.89% of the total residents in Canadian County. Notably, the median household income for White households is $82,305. Interestingly, despite the White population being the most populous, it is worth noting that Some Other Race households actually reports the highest median household income, with a median income of $93,253. This reveals that, while Whites may be the most numerous in Canadian County, Some Other Race households experience greater economic prosperity in terms of median household income.

    Description

    Introduction

Welcome to the Canadian English General Conversation Speech Dataset — a rich, linguistically diverse corpus purpose-built to accelerate the development of English speech technologies. This dataset is designed to train and fine-tune ASR systems, spoken language understanding models, and generative voice AI tailored to real-world Canadian English communication.

Curated by FutureBeeAI, this 30 hours dataset offers unscripted, spontaneous two-speaker conversations across a wide array of real-life topics. It enables researchers, AI developers, and voice-first product teams to build robust, production-grade English speech models that understand and respond to authentic Canadian accents and dialects.

    Speech Data

The dataset comprises 30 hours of high-quality audio, featuring natural, free-flowing dialogue between native speakers of Canadian English. These sessions range from informal daily talks to deeper, topic-specific discussions, ensuring variability and context richness for diverse use cases.

    Participant Diversity:
Speakers: 60 verified native Canadian English speakers from FutureBeeAI’s contributor community.
Regions: Representing various provinces of Canada to ensure dialectal diversity and demographic balance.
Demographics: A balanced gender ratio (60% male, 40% female) with participant ages ranging from 18 to 70 years.
    Recording Details:
Conversation Style: Unscripted, spontaneous peer-to-peer dialogues.
Duration: Each conversation ranges from 15 to 60 minutes.
Audio Format: Stereo WAV files, 16-bit depth, recorded at 16kHz sample rate.
Environment: Quiet, echo-free settings with no background noise.

    Topic Diversity

The dataset spans a wide variety of everyday and domain-relevant themes. This topic diversity ensures the resulting models are adaptable to broad speech contexts.

    Sample Topics Include:
    Family & Relationships
    Food & Recipes
    Education & Career
    Healthcare Discussions
    Social Issues
    Technology & Gadgets
    Travel & Local Culture
Shopping & Marketplace Experiences, and many more.

    Transcription

Each audio file is paired with a human-verified, verbatim transcription available in JSON format.

    Transcription Highlights:
    Speaker-segmented dialogues
    Time-coded utterances
    Non-speech elements (pauses, laughter, etc.)
High transcription accuracy, achieved through double QA pass, average WER < 5%

These transcriptions are production-ready, enabling seamless integration into ASR model pipelines or conversational AI workflows.

    Metadata

The dataset comes with granular metadata for both speakers and recordings:

Speaker Metadata: Age, gender, accent, dialect, state/province, and participant ID.
Recording Metadata: Topic, duration, audio format, device type, and sample rate.

Such metadata helps developers fine-tune model training and supports use-case-specific filtering or demographic analysis.

    Usage and Applications

This dataset is a versatile resource for multiple English speech and language AI applications:

ASR Development: Train accurate speech-to-text systems for Canadian English.
Voice Assistants: Build smart assistants capable of understanding natural Canadian conversations.

    Description

The Biodiversity Science Database is a compilation of fish community data from DFO Science Surveys. Data includes: sampling site, date, fish counts, fish species, and associated habitat information. This database was established to support fish species at risk research through the DFO Species at Risk Program and is used primarily for updating the current status of fish species at risk populations across Southern Ontario. The dataset has been constrained to sampling site characteristics for placement on Great Lakes DataStream; the original is available via the Government of Canada Open Data portal, see Data Source URL.

Proportion of the school age population, by selected characteristics, in and out of census metropolitan areas (CMAs). This table is included in Section A: A portrait of the school-age population: Cultural diversity of the Pan Canadian Education Indicators Program (PCEIP). PCEIP draws from a wide variety of data sources to provide information on the school-age population, elementary, secondary and postsecondary education, transitions, education finance and labour market outcomes. The program presents indicators for all of Canada, the provinces, the territories, as well as selected international comparisons and comparisons over time. PCEIP is an ongoing initiative of the Canadian Education Statistics Council, a partnership between Statistics Canada and the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada that provides a set of statistical measures on education systems in Canada.

The Ethnocultural and Religious Diversity profile information for Dissemination Area was extracted from the Statistics Canada 2021 Beyond 20/20 browser software. It contains the information gathered during the 2021Census with respect to the population within a Dissemination Area and the breakdown of this population by Ethnocultural and Religious Diversity .This data covers the Dissemination Area in York Region only. Statistics Canada has suppressed the profiles for certain areas due to very low population count. Suppressed areas will appear as NULL values in the attribute table. Please exercise caution if using dissemination areas to roll up (aggregate) to other levels of census geographies, due to greater suppression applied by Statistics Canada at dissemination area. Description

Ecoregions vary in their make up and complexity. Some are relatively uniform in their composition, structure and processes. Others contain extreme variations in relief, soils, climate, vegetation, and species. This map shows the number of land cover types (up to 29 types are possible) per ecoregion and gives an indication of the level of diversity within a particular ecosystem.
