The Bureau of Labor Statistics produces industry estimates of nonfarm payroll employment as part of the Current Population Survey. Employment data are seasonally adjusted to remove the effects of normal seasonal variation.

Labour force participation rate: number of people aged 15+ in the labour force as a percentage of the working-age population (aged 15+). The notion of labour force refers to people who are employed or unepmployed (according to International Labour Organization). Unemployment rate: number of people aged 15+ who are unemployed as a percentage of people in the labour force. This dataset provides the labour force participation rates, expressed as a percentage, for persons aged 15-29 years, 15 years and above, and all persons in usual status. The data is sourced from the annual report of the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) conducted by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The labour force participation rates indicate the proportion of individuals who are part of the labor force, within the specified age groups and time. The years covered in the survey are from July to June. For instance, 2023-24 refers to the period July 2023 to June 2024 and likewise for other years.

Labor force participation rate is a measure of the active workforce. It is the total number of those employed or actively seeking employment divided by the all working age population, however, from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS), the universe for the working age population considered varies. For participation rates by sex, the population used is 20 to 64 years old. For race and ethnic groupings, the age range is 16 and older. As a result of the narrower age range the rates by sex are higher than those by race.
