    Description

This file contains projected population totals for the Statistical Local Areas (SLAs) in Victoria for the years 2006 to 2026. These projections are also aggregated to provide totals for Local Government Areas (LGAs), Statistical Subdivisions (SSDs) and Statistical Divisions (SDs). Included are explanatory notes for the Victoria in Future 2008 a first release population projections.

Victoria in Future 2008 is the official population projection set of the State of Victoria. Projections have been released four times, beginning with Victoria in Future 1997. The data provide an insight into the likely future size, location and structure of our population, as well as components of population change (births, deaths, migration) and the way we form households, given assumptions about the continuation of current societal, economic and demographic trends. Victoria in Future data is used widely within state government, as well as the private and community sectors. The data are used to understand the population as it stands and as it is likely to be, and is used most often in the strategic planning for businesses and organisations including, but not limited to: land use and development, health and community services, transport, justice, retail and commercial, water, energy and infrastructure.

    Description

This dataset is the 2016 release of the Victoria in Future series of data and presents the number of households by household types for the state of Victoria. The data is presented in 2011 Local Government Area (LGA) boundaries and covers each fifth year for the years 2011 to 2031. The Victoria in Future series is a projection of the ERP for LGAs and Victoria in Future Small Areas (VIFSA) for 2011 to 2031. Some data areas are available for individual years and some for every fifth year in the projection period. The first year for each dataset within the series is 2011. Where available, the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data is used for the years 2012 to 2015. Data are available for Estimated Resident Population (ERP - the official total population), population by age and sex (for single years of age in some cases, otherwise for five-year age groups), households and dwellings (including average household sizes and dwelling occupancy rates). Victoria in Future 2016 population projections are not predictions of the future, nor are they targets. They analyse changing economic and social structures and other drivers of demographic trends to indicate possible future populations if the present identified demographic and social trends continue. Projections are based exclusively on demographic components at the state and regional level, while local level projections take account of current and future land use, dwelling capacity, and development opportunities in addition to local demographic factors. The survey follows an established method to collect relevant, timely and valid health information which is applied to policy development and strategic planning. Information is collected via computer assisted telephone interview on overall self-rated health status, level of psychological distress, body mass index (to determine weight status), the presence of chronic diseases, nutrition, physical activity, smoking and alcohol consumption. Information is also collected on participation in screening for bowel cancer, breast cancer, high blood pressure, cholesterol and high blood sugar in addition to community participation, levels of social support and connections with others. Interviews are also conducted in the major non-English languages in Victoria to ensure people of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are included.

    Abstract

The dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme. This dataset was derived from multiple datasets. You can find a link to the parent datasets in the Lineage Field in this metadata statement. The History Field in this metadata statement describes how this dataset was derived.

This dataset shows the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Mesh Blocks across Victoria, with the 2011 census population and housing counts attached as attributes. It was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme from the ABS Mesh Block Population Counts Aus 2011 dataset, and the ABS Boundaries 2011 dataset. The source datasets are identified in the Lineage field in this metadata statement. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.

    Description

This dataset provides the population by gender for 2011 in Mainland Australia. The data is aggregated to Local Government Areas (LGA) from the 2011 Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS). The Industry Atlas of Victoria is a graphic snapshot of the State's economy - in Melbourne and regional Victoria. Highly informative maps have been derived from the 2006 Census, supplemented by up-to-date Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data, to provide insight into the number and distribution of businesses, industries and the workforce. The Atlas provides fascinating information and valuable input into future industry policy development and infrastructure planning.

    Description

The Koori Health Research Database (KHRD) contains the genealogies and life events of approximately 8,000 Kooris who lived in Victoria and New South Wales in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

In 1999, work began in a partnership between the University of Melbourne and the Bunjilaka Centre at Museum Victoria to build a database of the Aboriginal (Koori) population of Victoria since colonisation. The KHRD is a collection of genealogies built from the Koori community’s carefully preserved oral knowledge of lineages and relationships, supplemented with vital registration data and information from other historical records.

    Description

This dataset is the 2015 release of the Victoria in Future (VIF) series of data and presents the Estimated Resident Population (ERP) for each year from 2011 to 2031. The data is presented in Local Government Areas (LGAs) from the 2011 Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS). Victoria in Future is the official state government projection of population and households. Projections are based on trends and assumptions for births, life expectancy, migration, and living arrangements across all of Victoria. For more information please visit the DELWP VIF Portal. Please Note: AURIN has spatially enabled the original data. The data tables have been condensed to one dataset to allow a longitudinal analysis of the data through year-period filters. The results are driven by assumptions concerning demographic and land-use trends. Projections are based on the latest (30 June 2014) population estimates from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

    Description

This dataset presents the footprint of the rates of family incidents retrieved from Victoria Police. The data spans the financial years in the period of July 2013 to June 2018 and is aggregated to 2011 Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) Local Government Areas (LGA). The Victorian Family Violence Database is a repository for a range of different datasets relating to family violence clients and service use, extracted from the data holdings of a variety of government agencies. The rate of family incidents per 100,000 population is calculated using the count of family incidents recorded in a LGA and the Estimated Resident Population (ERP) of that LGA. The rate is calculated using the following formula: Family Incident Rate = (Number of Family Incidents/ERP count) x 100,000. ERPs are based on populations provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). For further information about this dataset and related statistics, visit the data source:Crime Statistics Australia. Please note: AURIN has spatially enabled the original data. The data contains information collected by Victoria Police on the L17 Risk Assessment and Risk Management Report.

    Description

Major regions include the Metropolitan Regions and Regional Partnerships.\r \r Victoria in Future projections are an estimate of the future size, distribution and composition of the population. The projections give an idea of what is likely to happen if current trends continue. They are developed using mathematical models and expert knowledge, relying on trend analysis and assumptions about future change.\r \r VIF projections are an important guide for planning and building for our future. State and local governments and agencies use the projections to plan for land use and development, infrastructure, services and programs. Developers and businesses use them to analyse potential markets, for example future demands for dwellings, goods and services and labour supply.\r \r Clause 11.02 of the State Planning Policy Framework explicitly requires planning for urban growth to have consideration to Victorian Government population projections.\r \r VIF2023 is not an exact prediction or forecast of the future. Uncertainty about the future increases over longer projection horizons and with smaller disaggregations, geographic or sectoral. Different policy settings and changes in the economy could result in changes to the expected size, distribution and characteristics of the population.\r \r For more information go to - https://www.planning.vic.gov.au/guides-and-resources/data-and-insights/victoria-in-future#heading-1
