The Office of Vital Records at the Connecticut Department of Public Health maintains statewide registries of vital events (births, fetal deaths, deaths and marriages) which have occurred in CT or to residents of CT. Data collected through the vital records registries are analyzed annually to create statistical reports on the number of events and associated demographic and health information. In CT, these vital statistics reports are known as Registration Reports.

Statbel, the Belgian statistical office, publishes an overview of the provisional mortality figures for each year, for all causes of death. The publication contains provisional mortality figures for all Belgian municipalities, and an analysis of the mortality by age category, gender and by month.

General mortality statistics are compiled on the basis of data from the National Register of Natural Persons (RNPP). They make it possible to consolidate the statistics on causes of death, the source of which is the civil status forms. This statistic breaks down the deaths of people residing in Belgium according to sex, municipality of residence (district, province and region), month of death, civil status and nationality (Belgian or foreign). They also make it possible to calculate the gross mortality rate, i.e. the ratio between the number of deaths during the year and the population in the middle of that year.

State comparisons data for births, deaths, infant death, disease, abortion, median age, marriages, divorces, physicians, nurses, and health insurance coverage. Data include a national ranking.

This dataset of U.S. mortality trends since 1900 highlights the differences in age-adjusted death rates and life expectancy at birth by race and sex.

Age-adjusted death rates (deaths per 100,000) after 1998 are calculated based on the 2000 U.S. standard population. Populations used for computing death rates for 2011–2017 are postcensal estimates based on the 2010 census, estimated as of July 1, 2010. Rates for census years are based on populations enumerated in the corresponding censuses. Rates for noncensus years between 2000 and 2010 are revised using updated intercensal population estimates and may differ from rates previously published. Data on age-adjusted death rates prior to 1999 are taken from historical data (see References below).

Life expectancy data are available up to 2017. Due to changes in categories of race used in publications, data are not available for the black population consistently before 1968, and not at all before 1960. This data collection resulted from the project "Linked Homicide File for 1990-1999," which was conducted by the California Department of Health Services (CDHS), Epidemiology and Prevention for Injury Control Branch, for the purpose of studying homicide and providing evidence for the development of strategies to reduce homicide in California. The researchers combined the strengths of law enforcement reporting and medical reporting in one dataset. The homicide data contain information on victims and circumstances of the 34,542 homicides investigated by law enforcement agencies in California for the period 1990 to 1999. The data are Supplementary Homicide Reports (SHR), which are received monthly by the Department of Justice from all local California law enforcement agencies as part of the national Uniform Crime Reporting program (UNIFORM CRIME REPORTS [UNITED STATES]: SUPPLEMENTARY HOMICIDE REPORTS, 1976-1999 [ICPSR 3180]). The researchers linked the SHRs to the CDHS vital statistics mortality data, which contain the death records provided by the medical examiner or coroner of each county after investigation of the death. Variables include total number of offenders involved, weapon used in the homicide, county of the victim's residence, location and date of the incident, date of death, cause of death, date of arrest for the suspect, and whether supplemental homicide report matched the death record. Demographic data include age, sex, and race of the victim and the suspect, relationships between the suspect and the victim, and the victim's marital status.

The National Vital Statistics System (NVSS) provides the most complete data on births and deaths in the United States. These data are provided through contracts between the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) and vital registration systems operated in the various jurisdictions legally responsible for the registration of vital events – births, deaths, marriages, divorces, and fetal deaths.

Abstract (en): This collection provides information on live births in the United States during the calendar year 2011. The natality data in these files are a component of the vital statistics collection effort maintained by the federal government. Birth data is limited to births occurring in the United States to United States residents and nonresidents. Births occurring to United States citizens outside of the United States are not included in this data collection. Dataset 1 contains data on births occurring within the United States, while Dataset 2 contains data on births occurring in the United States territories of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Variables describe the place of delivery, who was in attendance, and medical and health data such as the method of delivery, prenatal care, tobacco use during pregnancy, pregnancy history, medical risk factors, and infant health characteristics. Birth rates, fertility rates, and other aggregate statistics can be found in the Detailed Technical Notes section of the ICPSR User Guide. Demographic information includes the child's sex and month and year of birth, the parents' ages, races, ethnicities, education levels, as well as the mother's marital status and residency status. This report presents detailed data on numbers and characteristics of births in 2011, birth and fertility rates, maternal demographic and health characteristics, place and attendant at birth, and infant health characteristics within the United States and its territories. This data visualization presents county-level provisional counts for drug overdose deaths based on a current flow of mortality data in the National Vital Statistics System. County-level provisional counts include deaths occurring within the 50 states and the District of Columbia, as of the date specified and may not include all deaths that occurred during a given time period. Provisional counts are often incomplete and causes of death may be pending investigation resulting in an underestimate relative to final counts (see Technical Notes). The provisional data presented on the dashboard below include reported 12 month-ending provisional counts of death due to drug overdose by the decedent’s county of residence and the month in which death occurred. Percentages of deaths with a cause of death pending further investigation and a note on historical completeness (e.g. if the percent completeness was under 90% after 6 months) are included to aid in interpretation of provisional data as these measures are related to the accuracy of provisional counts (see Technical Notes). Counts between 1-9 are suppressed in accordance with NCHS confidentiality standards. Provisional data presented on this page will be updated on a quarterly basis as additional records are received. Technical Notes Nature and Sources of Data Provisional drug overdose death counts are based on death records received and processed by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) as of a specified cutoff date. The cutoff date is generally the first Sunday of each month. National provisional estimates include deaths occurring within the 50 states and the District of Columbia. NCHS receives the death records from the state vital registration offices through the Vital Statistics Cooperative Program (VSCP). The timeliness of provisional mortality surveillance data in the National Vital Statistics System (NVSS) database varies by cause of death and jurisdiction in which the death occurred. The lag time (i.e., the time between when the death occurred and when the data are available for analysis) is longer for drug overdose deaths compared with other causes of death due to the time often needed to investigate these deaths (1). Thus, provisional estimates of drug overdose deaths are reported 6 months after the date of death. Provisional death counts presented in this data visualization are for “12 month-ending periods,” defined as the number of deaths occurring in the 12 month period ending in the month indicated. For example, the 12 month-ending period in June 2020 would include deaths occurring from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020. The 12 month-ending period counts include all seasons of the year and are insensitive to reporting variations by seasonality. These provisional counts of drug overdose deaths and related data quality metrics are provided for public health surveillance and monitoring of emerging trends. Provisional drug overdose death data are often incomplete, and the degree of completeness varies by jurisdiction and 12 month-ending period. Consequently, the numbers of drug overdose deaths are underestimated based on provisional data relative to final data and are subject to random variation. Cause of Death Classification and Definition of Drug Deaths Mortality statistics are compiled in accordance with the World Health Organizations (WHO) regulations specifying that WHO member nations classify and code causes of death with the current revision of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD). Abstract

Vital Statistics cover Births, Deaths, Still births and Marriages which are called vital events. The source for the collection of data for the preparation of Vital statistics is the certificate issued to the respondent when the registration of the occurrence of the vital event is done. Maintaining Vital statistics is an Administrative record keeping operation and is a continuous process where the event by event data are collected on a monthly basis and the final outputs (reports) are produced annually for dissemination. The computerization of vital statistics came into being after the arrival of computers to the Department of Census and Statistics in 1960's.

Registration of vital events commenced in 1867 with the enactment of civil registration laws which conferred the legal sanction for the registration of events namely, live births, deaths, still births and marriages.

This dataset contains counts of live births for California as a whole based on information entered on birth certificates. Final counts are derived from static data and include out of state births to California residents, whereas provisional counts are derived from incomplete and dynamic data. Provisional counts are based on the records available when the data was retrieved and may not represent all births that occurred during the time period.

The final data tables include both births that occurred in California regardless of the place of residence (by occurrence) and births to California residents (by residence), whereas the provisional data table only includes births that occurred in California regardless of the place of residence (by occurrence). The data are reported as totals, as well as stratified by parent giving birth's age, parent giving birth's race-ethnicity, and birth place type. This CD-ROM contains the 2004 Natality Detail public use files and documentation. This collection provides information on live births in the United States and U.S. territories during calendar year 2004. Birth data for the U.S. are limited to births occurring within the U.S. to U.S. residents and nonresidents. Births to nonresidents of the US are excluded from all tabulations by place of residence. Births occurring to US citizens outside of the US are not included in this file. Birth data for Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, and America Samoa are limited to biths occuring within the respective territories. Geographic variables describing residence for births include the state, county, city, county and city population, standard metropolitan statistical area (SMSA), and metropolitan/nonmetropolitan county. Other variables include the race and sex of the child, parent's age, national origin, and race, and mother's educational attainment and marital status. Health data include variables such as live birth order, prenatal care, birth weight, plurality, Apgar score, method of delivery, medical risk factors, complications of labor and/or delivery, abnormal conditions of the newborn, attendant at birth, and place or facility of birth. This data file includes data based on both the 1989 Revision of the U.S. Standard Certificate of Live Birth (unrevised) and the 2003 revision of the U.S. Standard Certificate of Live Birth in 2003 (revised). Pennsylvania and Washington implemented the revised certificate in 2003: five states, Idaho, Kentucky, New York (excluding New York City), South Carolina, and Tennessee implemented as of January 1, 2004. Two additional states, Florida and New Hampshire, implemented the revised birth certificate in 2004, but after January 1. The nine revised states represent 20 percent of all 2004 births. The seven revised states, for which data are available for all of 2004, represent 14 percent of all births. Where comparable, revised data are comb ined with data from the remaining 41 states and the District of Columbia. (Revised data are denoted by R.
