    Description

These data represent the predicted (modeled) prevalence of adults (Age 18+) who currently Smoke Cigarettes for each census tract in Colorado. Currently Smoking is defined as having smoked at least 100 cigarettes (5 packs) in your lifetime and now smoke cigarettes on some days or every day.The estimate for each census tract represents an average that was derived from multiple years of Colorado Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data (2014-2017).CDPHE used a model-based approach to measure the relationship between age, race, gender, poverty, education, location and health conditions or risk behavior indicators and applied this relationship to predict the number of persons' who have the health conditions or risk behavior for each census tract in Colorado. We then applied these probabilities, based on demographic stratification, to the 2013-2017 American Community Survey population estimates and determined the percentage of adults with the health conditions or risk behavior for each census tract in Colorado. The estimates are based on statistical models and are not direct survey estimates. Using the best available data, CDPHE was able to model census tract estimates based on demographic data and background knowledge about the distribution of specific health conditions and risk behaviors. The estimates are displayed in both the map and data table using point estimate values for each census tract and displayed using a Quintile range. The high and low value for each color on the map is calculated based on dividing the total number of census tracts in Colorado (1249) into five groups based on the total range of estimates for all Colorado census tracts. Each Quintile range represents roughly 20% of the census tracts in Colorado. No estimates are provided for census tracts with a known population of less than 50. These census tracts are displayed in the map as "No Est, Pop < 50."No estimates are provided for 7 census tracts with a known population of less than 50 or for the 2 census tracts that exclusively contain a federal correctional institution as 100% of their population. These 9 census tracts are displayed in the map as "No Estimate."

    Description

This data shows the percentage of adults (age 18 and over) who are current smokers.

Smoking is the single biggest cause of preventable death and illnesses, and big inequalities exist between and within communities. Smoking is a major risk factor for many diseases, such as lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD, bronchitis and emphysema) and heart disease. It is also associated with cancers in other organs.

Smoking is a modifiable lifestyle risk factor. Preventing people from starting smoking is important in reducing the health harms and inequalities.

This data is based on the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Annual Population Survey (APS). In this dataset particularly at district level there may be inherent statistical uncertainty in some data values. Thus as with many other datasets, this data should be used together with other data and resources to obtain a fuller picture.

Data source: Public Health England, Public Health Outcomes Framework (PHOF) indicator 2.14. This data is updated annually.

    Description

In 2023, around 28.6 percent of the population aged 15 years and above in Indonesia were smokers. Smoking prevalence in Indonesia peaked in 2018 at 32.2 percent. To address the widespread prevalence of smoking, the government imposed a tax hike in 2020. Cigarette consumption in Indonesia Despite the Indonesian government's increase in excise duties on cigarettes and tobacco products, smoking among adults remains high, particularly among men. Cultural norms, low prices, and aggressive tobacco marketing significantly challenge efforts to reduce smoking rates. In Indonesia, smoking is deeply embedded in social practices and often begins at a young age. Recent data indicates that Indonesians aged 18 to 59 smoke an average of 12 cigarettes daily, equivalent to one regular-sized pack of cigarettes sold in the country. Tobacco industry in Indonesia The tobacco industry in Indonesia is a vital economic sector, ranking among the world’s leading producers and consumers of tobacco. Indonesia produced over 200,000 metric tons of tobacco annually, with exports to countries such as the Philippines and the United States. This extensive production and export network underscores the industry's importance to Indonesia's economy. The total export value of tobacco and its manufactured products from Indonesia is estimated to be nearly two billion U.S. dollars, highlighting its significant contribution to the nation's economic landscape.
