How Are We Protecting Privacy?

Results for OnSIS and Statistics Canada variables are suppressed based on school population size to better protect student privacy. In order to achieve this additional level of protection, the Ministry has used a methodology that randomly rounds a percentage either up or down depending on school enrolment. In order to protect privacy, the ministry does not publicly report on data when there are fewer than 10 individuals represented.

This dataset includes the Crime Data by Neighbourhood. Counts are available for Assault, Auto Theft, Break and Enter, Robbery, Theft Over, Homicide and Shooting & Firearm Discharges. Data also includes the crime rate per 100,000 population calculated using the population estimates provided by Environics Analytics. Following the standard definition by StatsCan, crime rate is calculated as the crime count per 100,000 population* per year. This metric facilitates the comparisons of crime between geographic areas with different size of populations. Comparing to crime count, crime rate provides a fairer comparison of the crime over time by taking into account the change in population in the region. The City Manager conducted a public consultation in May 2015 to seek input from Torontonians on the matter of expanded gaming at Woodbine Racetrack. This data set contains input from the public consultation delivered by Ipsos Reid for the City of Toronto between May 6 and May 29, 2015. The purpose of posting this dataset is to create a record of the consultation and the public's views from an online questionnaire, and a city-wide public opinion telephone survey. Telephone Survey A telephone survey was conducted among a representative sample of 701 adult Toronto residents between May 15-28, 2015. The margin of error for a sample of this size is plus or minus 3.7 percentage points (at the 95% confidence level). The data was statistically weighted to ensure the sample's regional, age and gender composition reflects that of the actual Toronto population according to 2011 census data. In addition to the representative sample of 701 interviews, 200 interviews were conducted with residents who live in North Etobicoke (M9W and M9V) in order to boost the sample size of residents who live in the area of the Woodbine Racetrack. The survey was conducted using live interviews (CATI) and was executed using random digit dialing (RDD) . The representative sample frame included both landline and cellphone households. The average interview length was 14.4 minutes. The overall response rate to the survey was 9.2%. The response rate was calculated using the formula developed by the Marketing Research and Intelligence Association (MRIA) in conjunction with the Government of Canada. Throughout the report totals may not add to 100% due to rounding or because the question is a multi-select question, where respondents were permitted to choose more than one response.
