    Description

According to a March 2024 survey conducted in the United States, 32 percent of adults reported feeling that social media had neither a positive nor negative effect on their own mental health. Only seven percent of social media users said that online platforms had a very positive effect on their mental health, while 12 percent of users said it had a very negative impact. Furthermore, 22 percent of respondents said social media had a somewhat negative effect on their mental health. Is social media addictive? A 2023 survey of individuals between 11 and 59 years old in the United States found that over 73 percent of TikTok users agreed that the platform was addictive. Furthermore, nearly 27 percent of those surveyed reported experiencing negative psychological effects related to TikTok use. Users belonging to Generation Z were the most likely to say that TikTok is addictive, yet millennials felt the negative effects of using the app more so than Gen Z. In the U.S., it is also not uncommon for social media users to take breaks from using online platforms, and as of March 2024, over a third of adults in the country had done so. Following mental health-related content Although online users may be aware of the negative and addictive aspects of social media, it is also a useful tool for finding supportive content. In a global survey conducted in 2023, 32 percent of social media users followed therapists and mental health professionals on social media. Overall, 24 percent of respondents said that they followed people on social media if they had the same condition as they did. Between January 2020 and March 2023, British actress and model Cara Delevingne was the celebrity mental health activist with the highest growth in searches tying her name to the topic.

    Description

This dataset contains oxygen isotope measurements in the planktic foraminifer species Globigerina bulloides and oxygen and carbon isotopes in the benthic foraminifer Cibicidoides pachyderma from IODP Site U1389 (South Iberian Margin) for the penultimate glacial period. Data of the percentage of fine sand content in the sediments from the same Site is also provided. The high resolution oxygen isotope record obtained in the planktic foraminifer species led to recognize millennial-scale climate variability during the penultimate glacial period with unprecedented resolution that could be correlated with similar records from core MD01-2444 in the western Portuguese margin and Antarctic hydrogen isotopes from Epica Dome C. A series of stadial interstadial episodes were regognized that were similar to the Dansgaard-Oestchger events during the last glacial period. Unlike the planktic d18O record that mainly reflects sea surface temperature variability in the NE Atlantic, the Cibicidoides pachyderma benthic foraminifer stable isotope record reflects millennial-scale climate variability in the Mediterranean. Changes in the percent fine sand (weight% of the fine sand fraction 62-150 microns relative to dry bulk weight) was used as a proxy for the strength of the Mediterranean Overflow Water (MOW)

The number of LinkedIn users in the United Kingdom was forecast to continuously increase between 2024 and 2028 by in total 1.5 million users (+4.51 percent). After the eighth consecutive increasing year, the LinkedIn user base is estimated to reach 34.7 million users and therefore a new peak in 2028. User figures, shown here with regards to the platform LinkedIn, have been estimated by taking into account company filings or press material, secondary research, app downloads and traffic data. They refer to the average monthly active users over the period and count multiple accounts by persons only once. The shown data are an excerpt of Statista's Key Market Indicators (KMI). The KMI are a collection of primary and secondary indicators on the macro-economic, demographic and technological environment in up to 150 countries and regions worldwide. All indicators are sourced from international and national statistical offices, trade associations and the trade press and they are processed to generate comparable data sets (see supplementary notes under details for more information).

    Description

This dataset contains oxygen and carbon stable isotopes (δ18O and δ13C) data, percentage of planktic and benthic foraminiferal species, and bottom water temperatures calculated from transfer functions on benthic foraminiferal census data measured in core HH12-940PC from Vestnesa Ridge (West Svalbard, 79.04°N; 6.89°E; 1273 m water depth). The record covers the last 50,000 to 6,300 years Abstract: During the last glaciation, the northern hemisphere experienced profound millennial-scale changes (termed Dansgaard-Oeschger (DO) events) in atmospheric and oceanic temperatures. In the North Atlantic, the fluctuations resulted in extremely unstable bottom water conditions with bottom water temperatures (BWT) varying up to >5 °C. We have studied these changes in a core from 1,300 m water depth at Vestnesa Ridge, northwestern Svalbard margin to investigate a possible connection between BWT and seepage of methane from the seafloor covering the period ~50–6 ka. Beneath Vestnesa Ridge, gas hydrates containing vast amounts of methane are kept stable due to the high pressure and low temperatures. Release of gas is shown by numerous pockmarks on the seafloor. The pockmarks at 1,300 m water depth are presently inactive, but they bear witness of earlier activity. Our study shows that from ~50–6 ka, the core site experienced repeated increases in BWT and in the emissions of gas, both following the pattern of the DO events. This correspondence in time scale indicates that BWT was the primary forcing factor for the variability in methane release. However, the releases were delayed by up to >1,000 years compared to the initial increase in BWT. This dataset contains oxygen and carbon stable isotopes (δ18O and δ13C) data, percentage of planktic and benthic foraminiferal species, and bottom water temperatures calculated from transfer functions on benthic foraminiferal census data measured in core HH12-940PC from Vestnesa Ridge (West Svalbard, 79.04°N; 6.89°E; 1273 m water depth). The record covers the last 50,000 to 6,300 years.
