This FEMA Framework Basemap dataset comprises the seven FGDC themes of geospatial data that are used by most GIS applications: cadastral, geodetic control, governmental unit, transportation, general structures, hydrography (water areas & lines), and orthoimagery. The vector data include an encoding of the geographic extent of the features and a minimal number of attributes needed to identify and describe the features. (Source: Circular A16, p. 13)

TwitterWhatcom Farm Friends, the Ag Water Board (AWB), and the Whatcom Conservation District have cooperated on the development of an interactive, web based, educational tool that provides timely information and a historic perspective of our local farm community and economy. A “Story Map” allows users to interactively explore pertinent information on today’s farms and the history of how our county developed into such a productive farming area. Additionally, there is the opportunity to give your feedback, ask questions and help shape the future efforts of the AWB. The Story Map is housed on the AWB’s website at www.agwaterboard.com/storymap . Access to the Story Map is also available on the homepages of Whatcom Farm Friends (www.wcfarmfriends.com/) and the Whatcom Conservation District (www.whatcomcd.org/). We invite you to take a look, make use of the interactive features of the site, and provide us with helpful feedback or questions that will help us further develop the site.“Farmers need to better communicate who we are and what challenges our future” observes Ag Water Board (AWB) President Scott Bedlington. “The AWB invested in developing this communication tool for both our own planning purposes and as a window for the public on what is going on around them on our farms.”Farm Friends board member and Whatcom Farmer’s Co-op General Manager Don Eucker also has hopes for the usefulness of this educational tool. “At WFC we get to interact with a wide variety of farmers and non-farm customers. A lack of quality information can quickly lead to misinformation and concerns. We see this as a tool to foster an improved dialogue with the entire community.”The Story Map was developed by Blue Water GIS under contract with Whatcom Farm Friends and with grant assistance from the WA Conservation Commission. The Ag groups are indebted to Senator Doug Ericksen for advocating for this educational support through the WA State Toxics Control Account.
