The Arlington Profile combines countywide data sources and provides a comprehensive outlook of the most current data on population, housing, employment, development, transportation, and community services. These datasets are used to obtain an understanding of community, plan future services/needs, guide policy decisions, and secure grant funding. This dataset contains unemployment rates for the U.S. (1948 - Present) and California (1976 - Present). The unemployment rate represents the number of unemployed as a percentage of the labor force. Labor force data are restricted to people 16 years of age and older, who currently reside in 1 of the 50 states or the District of Columbia, who do not reside in institutions (e.g., penal and mental facilities, homes for the aged), and who are not on active duty in the Armed Forces. This rate is also defined as the U-3 measure of labor underutilization.

This dataset uses seasonally adjusted data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics to present information on Maryland's labor force participation rate, employment rate, and unemployment rate.

The employment and unemployment indicator shows several data points. The first figure is the number of people in the labor force, which includes the number of people who are either working or looking for work. The second two figures, the number of people who are employed and the number of people who are unemployed, are the two subcategories of the labor force. The unemployment rate is a calculation of the number of people who are in the labor force and unemployed as a percentage of the total number of people in the labor force.

The unemployment rate does not include people who are not employed and not in the labor force. This includes adults who are neither working nor looking for work. For example, full-time students may choose not to seek any employment during their college career, and are thus not considered in the unemployment rate. Stay-at-home parents and other caregivers are also considered outside of the labor force, and therefore outside the scope of the unemployment rate.

The unemployment rate is a key economic indicator, and is illustrative of economic conditions in the county at the individual scale.

There are additional considerations to the unemployment rate. Because it does not count those who are outside the labor force, it can exclude individuals who were looking for a job previously, but have since given up. The impact of this on the overall unemployment rate is difficult to quantify, but it is important to note because it shows that no statistic is perfect.

The unemployment rates for Champaign County, the City of Champaign, and the City of Urbana are extremely similar between 2000 and 2023.

All three areas saw a dramatic increase in the unemployment rate between 2006 and 2009. The unemployment rates for all three areas decreased overall between 2010 and 2019. However, the unemployment rate in all three areas rose sharply in 2020 due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The unemployment rate in all three areas dropped again in 2021 as pandemic restrictions were removed, and were almost back to 2019 rates in 2022. However, the unemployment rate in all three areas rose slightly from 2022 to 2023.

Data is from the Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS), Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), and the U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey (ACS). The table is part of a series of indicators in the Healthy Communities Data and Indicators Project of the Office of Health Equity. Unemployment is associated with higher rates of self-reported poor health, long-term illnesses, higher incidence of risky health behaviors (alcoholism, smoking), and increased mortality. Various explanations have been proposed for the link between poor health and unemployment; for example, economic deprivation that results in reduced access to essential goods and services. Another explanation is that unemployment causes the loss of latent functions (social contact, social status, time structure and personal identity) which can result in stigma, isolation and loss of self-worth. This dataset contains the Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS), annual averages from 1990 to 2023. The Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) program is a Federal-State cooperative effort in which monthly estimates of total employment and unemployment are prepared for approximately 7,600 areas, including counties, cities and metropolitan statistical areas. These estimates are key indicators of local economic conditions. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) of the U.S. Department of Labor is responsible for the concepts, definitions, technical procedures, validation, and publication of the estimates that State workforce agencies prepare under agreement with BLS. Estimates for counties are produced through a building-block approach known as the "Handbook method." This procedure also uses data from several sources, including the CPS, the CES program, state UI systems, and the Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS), to create estimates that are adjusted to the statewide measures of employment and unemployment. Estimates for cities are prepared using disaggregation techniques based on inputs from the ACS, annual population estimates, and current UI data.

Long Term Unemployment Rate in the United States decreased to 0.85 percent in May from 0.98 percent in April of 2025. This dataset contains non-seasonally adjusted California Unemployment Rate by age groups, from the Current Population Survey (CPS). The age group ranges are as follows: 16-19; 20-24; 25-34; 35-44; 45-54; 55-64; 65+. This data is based on a 12-month moving average.

Statistical open data on LAU regions of Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary (and other countries in the future). LAU1 regions are called counties, okres, okresy, powiat, járás, járási, NUTS4, LAU, Local Administrative Units, ... and there are 733 of them in this V4 dataset. Data of the US Employment and Unemployment rates since 1940. The data is obtained from the USA Bureau of Labor Statistics and includes the employment status of the civilian noninstitutional population from 1940 to the present day. The numbers in the dataset are measured in thousands and provide important information on the labor market in the US over several decades. This dataset can be used by researchers, policymakers, and analysts to understand the trends and fluctuations in the US labor market, as well as to develop strategies for improving employment and reducing unemployment rates.

The IZA Evaluation Dataset Survey (IZA ED) was developed in order to obtain reliable longitudinal estimates for the impact of Active Labor Market Policies (ALMP). Moreover, it is suitable for studying the processes of job search and labor market reintegration. The data allow analyzing dynamics with respect to a rich set of individual and labor market characteristics. It covers the initial period of unemployment as well as long-term outcomes, for a total period of up to 3 years after unemployment entry. A longitudinal questionnaire records monthly labor market activities and their duration in detail for the mentioned period. These activities are, for example, employment, unemployment, ALMP, other training etc. Available information covers employment status, occupation, sector, and related earnings, hours, unemployment benefits or other transfer payments. A cross-sectional questionnaire contains all basic information including the process of entering into unemployment, and demographics. The entry into unemployment describes detailed job search behavior such as search intensity, search channels and the role of the Employment Agency. Moreover, reservation wages and individual expectations about leaving unemployment or participating in ALMP programs are recorded. The available demographic information covers employment status, occupation and sector, as well as specifics about citizenship and ethnic background, educational levels, number and age of children, household structure and income, family background, health status, and workplace as well as place of residence regions. The survey provides as well detailed information about the treatment by the unemployment insurance authorities, imposed labor market policies, benefit receipt and sanctions. The survey focuses additionally on individual characteristics and behavior. Such co-variates of individuals comprise social networks, ethnic and migration background, relations and identity, personality traits, cognitive and non-cognitive skills, life and job satisfaction, risky behavior, attitudes and preferences. The main advantages of the IZA ED are the large sample size of unemployed individuals, the accuracy of employment histories, the innovative and rich set of individual co-variates and the fact that the survey measures important characteristics shortly after entry into unemployment.

Unemployment by age and duration (seasonally adjusted). These estimates are sourced from the Labour Force Survey, a survey of households. These are official statistics in development.

This dataset provides the Unemployment Rate (UR) in percentage according to usual status (ps+ss) for each State and Union Territory in India, categorized by age groups: 15-29 years, 15-59 years, 15 years and above, and all ages. It is sourced from the PLFS by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and offers insights into regional and age-group-specific unemployment rates. For 2023-24, Chandigarh's entire area has been considered urban for this survey, with data available only for the age groups 15-59 years, 15 years and above, and all ages. Before 2019-20, Ladakh was part of Jammu and Kashmir, and since 2020-21, Daman and Diu has been merged with Dadra and Nagar Haveli to form the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

Survey Description: Labor force and unemployment estimates for States and local areas are developed by State workforce agencies to measure local labor market conditions under a Federal-State cooperative program. The Department of Labor develops the concepts, definitions, and technical procedures which are used by State agencies for preparation of labor force and unemployment estimates.

These estimates are derived from a variety of sources, including the Current Population Survey, the Current Employment Statistics survey, the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, various programs at the Census Bureau, and unemployment insurance claims data from the State workforce agencies.

To establish uniform labor force concepts and definitions in all States and areas consistent with those used for the U.S. as a whole, monthly national estimates of employment and unemployment from the Current Population Survey are used as controls (benchmarks) for the State labor force statistics.

Summary Data Available: Monthly labor force and unemployment series are available for approximately 7,500 geographic areas, including cities over 25,000 population, counties, metropolitan areas, States, and other areas.

For each area, the following measures are presented by place of residence:

• Total civilian labor force,
• Total number of people employed,
• Total number of people unemployed, and
• Unemployment rate

Data Characteristics: Rates are expressed as percents with one decimal place. Levels are measured as individual persons (not thousands) and are stored with no decimal places.
