    DESCRIPTION

    Create a model that predicts whether or not a loan will be default using the historical data.

    Problem Statement:

    For companies like Lending Club correctly predicting whether or not a loan will be a default is very important. In this project, using the historical data from 2007 to 2015, you have to build a deep learning model to predict the chance of default for future loans. As you will see later this dataset is highly imbalanced and includes a lot of features that make this problem more challenging.

    Analysis to be done: Perform data preprocessing and build a deep learning prediction model.

    Dataset columns and definition:

    credit.policy: 1 if the customer meets the credit underwriting criteria of LendingClub.com, and 0 otherwise.

    purpose: The purpose of the loan (takes values "credit_card", "debt_consolidation", "educational", "major_purchase", "small_business", and "all_other").

    int.rate: The interest rate of the loan, as a proportion (a rate of 11% would be stored as 0.11). Borrowers judged by LendingClub.com to be more risky are assigned higher interest rates.

    installment: The monthly installments owed by the borrower if the loan is funded.

    log.annual.inc: The natural log of the self-reported annual income of the borrower.

    dti: The debt-to-income ratio of the borrower (amount of debt divided by annual income).

    fico: The FICO credit score of the borrower.

    days.with.cr.line: The number of days the borrower has had a credit line.

    revol.bal: The borrower's revolving balance (amount unpaid at the end of the credit card billing cycle).

    revol.util: The borrower's revolving line utilization rate (the amount of the credit line used relative to total credit available).

    inq.last.6mths: The borrower's number of inquiries by creditors in the last 6 months.

    delinq.2yrs: The number of times the borrower had been 30+ days past due on a payment in the past 2 years.

    pub.rec: The borrower's number of derogatory public records (bankruptcy filings, tax liens, or judgments).

    Steps to perform:

    Perform exploratory data analysis and feature engineering and then apply feature engineering. Follow up with a deep learning model to predict whether or not the loan will be default using the historical data.

    This dataset contains the customer's data from a loan company known as Prosper. This dataset comprises of 113,937 loans with 81 variables on each loan, including loan amount, borrower rate (or interest rate), current loan status, borrower income, and many others.

    Definition of Variables:

    ListingKey: Unique key for each listing, same value as the 'key' used in the listing object in the API. ListingNumber: The number that uniquely identifies the listing to the public as displayed on the website. ListingCreationDate: The date the listing was created. CreditGrade: The Credit rating that was assigned at the time the listing went live. Applicable for listings pre-2009 period and will only be populated for those listings. Term: The length of the loan expressed in months. LoanStatus: The current status of the loan: Cancelled, Chargedoff, Completed, Current, Defaulted, FinalPaymentInProgress, PastDue.     House price index is based on average new house price value at loan approval stage and therefore has not been adjusted for changes in the mix of houses and apartments sold. Interest rates is based on building societies mortgage loans, published by Central Statistics Office up to 2007.
    From 2008 interest rates is average rate of all 'mortgage lenders' reporting to the Central Bank.
    From 2014 it is based on the floating rate for new customers as published by the Central Bank (Retail interest rates - Table B2.1).     Have you ever wondered how lenders use various factors such as credit score, annual income, the loan amount approved, tenure, debt-to-income ratio etc. and select your interest rates?

    The process, defined as ‘risk-based pricing’, uses a sophisticated algorithm that leverages different determining factors of a loan applicant. Selection of significant factors will help develop a prediction algorithm which can estimate loan interest rates based on clients’ information. On one hand, knowing the factors will help consumers and borrowers to increase their credit worthiness and place themselves in a better position to negotiate for getting a lower interest rate. On the other hand, this will help lending companies to get an immediate fixed interest rate estimation based on clients information. Here, your goal is to use a training dataset to predict the loan rate category (1 / 2 / 3) that will be assigned to each loan in our test set.

    You can use any combination of the features in the dataset to make your loan rate category predictions. Some features will be easier to use than others.

    Annual Market Information Indices. Published by Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage. Available under the license Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 4.0 (CC-BY-SA-4.0).House price index is based on average new house price value at loan approval stage and therefore has not been adjusted for changes in the mix of houses and apartments sold. Interest rates is based on building societies mortgage loans, published by Central Statistics Office up to 2007.
    From 2008 interest rates is average rate of all 'mortgage lenders' reporting to the Central Bank.
    From 2014 it is based on the floating rate for new customers as published by the Central Bank (Retail interest rates - Table B2.1). The reason for the drop between 2013 and 2014 is due to the difference in methodology - the 2014 data is the weighted average rate on new loan agreements. Further information can be found here:

    Description

    Bayesian inference with a large dataset is computationally intensive, as Markov chain Monte Carlo simulation requires a complete scan of the dataset for each proposed parameter update. To reduce the number of data points evaluated at each iteration of posterior simulation, we develop a double marginalized subsampling method, which is applicable to a wide array of microeconometric models including Tobit, Probit, regressions with non-Gaussian errors, heteroscedasticity and stochastic volatility, hierarchical longitudinal models, time-varying-parameter regressions, Gaussian mixtures, etc. We also provide an extension to double pseudo-marginalized subsampling, which has more applications beyond conditionally conjugate models. With rank-one update of the cumulative statistics, both methods target the exact posterior distribution, from which a parameter draw can be obtained with every single observation. Simulation studies demonstrate the statistical and computational efficiency of the marginalized sampler. The methods are also applied to a real-world massive dataset on the incidentally truncated mortgage rates.
