    Description

Abstract What kind of information can the portraits of the Andarahy, Carioca, and Mangueira clubs offer about the visual culture of Rio de Janeiro in the early 20th century and the transition from amateur to professional soccer? In contrast to images from the aristocratic team of the Fluminense Soccer Club, the portraits of the black players of these popular clubs reveal disputes for visibility in the sports field and in the urban space since the end of the 1910s. They also reveal the role of the photographic market in the co-production of signs capable of composing a new visuality for the black population. To that extent, the socio-cultural transformations of that period were more significant than is usually recognized by representing the protagonism of the black population in the negotiations around social visibility in the country’s capital.

    Objective

To study longitudinal recovery trajectories of white-matter after sports-related concussion (SRC), we performed diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) on collegiate athletes who sustained SRC.

    Methods

Collegiate athletes (n=219, 82 concussed athletes, 68 contact-sport controls, and 69 non-contact-sport controls) were included from the Concussion Assessment, Research and Education (CARE) Consortium. The participants completed clinical assessments and DTI at four time points: 24-48-hours post-injury, asymptomatic state, seven days following return-to-play, and six-months post-injury. Tract-based spatial statistics were used to investigate group differences in DTI metrics and identify white-matter areas with persistent abnormalities. Generalized linear mixed models were used to study longitudinal changes and associations between outcome measures and DTI metrics. Cox proportional hazards model was used to study effects of white-matter abnormalities on rec...

The white-label sportsbook solutions market is experiencing robust growth, driven by increasing demand for cost-effective and readily deployable online betting platforms. The market's expansion is fueled by several key factors. Firstly, the rising popularity of online sports betting globally, particularly in newly regulated markets, creates a substantial need for agile and scalable solutions. Secondly, the technological advancements in iGaming, including enhanced user interfaces, live betting options, and sophisticated risk management tools, are attracting both established operators and new entrants to the market. Regulatory complexities and varying licensing requirements across different jurisdictions present significant hurdles for operators. Furthermore, maintaining competitive pricing strategies, ensuring platform security and data privacy, and managing customer acquisition costs are ongoing concerns for businesses in this space. Despite these challenges, the market is poised for continued expansion, with technological innovations and evolving consumer preferences driving the adoption of white-label solutions. We anticipate a sustained growth trajectory for the foreseeable future, largely propelled by the global proliferation of online sports betting and technological advancements in this space. The competitive landscape features both established providers and emerging players, highlighting the dynamic and evolving nature of this market segment.

    Description

IntroductionThe media’s recent focus on possible negative health outcomes following sports- related concussion has increased awareness as well as anxiety among parents and athletes. However, the literature on concussion outcomes is equivocal and limited by a variety of diagnostic approaches.MethodsThe current study used a rigorous, open- access concussion identification method—the Ohio State University Traumatic Brain Injury Identification method (OSU TBI-ID) to identify concussion and periods of repeated, subclinical head trauma in 108 young adult athletes who also underwent a comprehensive protocol of cognitive tests, mood/anxiety questionnaires, and high-angular-resolution diffusion-weighted brain imaging to evaluate potential changes in white matter microstructure.ResultsAnalyses showed that athletes with a history of repetitive, subclinical impacts to the head performed slightly worse on a measure of inhibitory impulse control and had more anxiety symptoms compared to those who never sustained any type of head injury but were otherwise the same as athletes with no history of concussion. Importantly, there were no group differences in cerebral white matter as measured by tract- based spatial statistics (TBSS), nor were there any associations between OSU TBI-ID measures and whole-brain principal scalars and free-water corrected scalars.DiscussionOur results provide support for the hypothesis that it is not concussion per se, but repetitive head impacts that beget worse outcomes.

Growing Popularity of Sports Betting and Digital Transformation to Boost Market Growth

The growing popularity of sports betting and digital transformation is a key driver of the sports betting kiosk market due to increasing global engagement in sports wagering and advancements in technology. With the rise of online and mobile sports betting, more bettors seek seamless, self-service options, making kiosks an attractive solution for casinos, stadiums, and entertainment venues. Digital transformation enhances kiosk functionality with real-time data integration, AI-driven betting recommendations, and secure cashless transactions, improving user experience and accessibility. Additionally, sports betting is becoming more mainstream due to widespread media coverage, sponsorships, and regulatory relaxations, further fueling demand. As sports betting operators aim to bridge the gap between physical and digital betting, kiosks serve as a crucial touchpoint for expanding market reach. For instance, In July 2023, Table Trac, Inc., the provider of CasinoTrac, a comprehensive casino information and management system that automates and monitors casino operations, announced a Joint Venture with Centennial Gaming Systems aimed at offering unattended loyalty card re-printing and enrollment services.

Sports betting kiosks provide a self-service alternative, allowing users to avoid long lines at betting counters and place bets quickly in casinos, stadiums, and retail locations. The integration of user-friendly interfaces, real-time odds updates, and cashless payment options enhances convenience, making kiosks a preferred choice for both experienced and casual bettors. Additionally, the 24/7 availability of kiosks ensures accessibility without requiring human assistance, further driving adoption. As the betting industry shifts toward automation and digital solutions, kiosks play a crucial role in enhancing the overall betting experience, increasing market demand.

Restraint Factor for the Sports Betting Kiosk Market

Strict regulations and legal uncertainties Will Limit Market Growth

High initial investment and maintenance costs are significant restraints on the sports betting kiosk market as they create financial barriers for operators, especially smaller businesses. Description

Physical inactivity is a problem worldwide despite the well-known health benefits of physical activity participation. Children from ethnic minority groups report some of the lowest levels of physical activity. In trying to address this, the voices and perspectives of children, especially children from ethnic minority groups, are often overlooked. The primary purpose of this study was to identify and compare the perceived barriers and motivators to physical activity of children from ethnic minority groups and white British children in a UK city. A semi-structured interview on physical activity participation was conducted in English with 20 children aged 8–11 years old (9 from a range of different ethnic minority groups and 11 white British children). The data were coded and analysed via inductive thematic analysis using Nvivo-12. A total of three barriers and eight motivators were identified for both groups. The barriers to physical activity participation were structure of sports; inadequate resources; and children’s social circle. The motivators were self-autonomy; self-confidence; enjoyment of physical activity; positive mental health and wellbeing; social circle; structure of sports; institutional motivators; and the introduction of more gender-balanced organised sports. Differences between groups were however noted amongst the subthemes, particularly in relation to barriers. For children from ethnic minority groups, barrier subthemes comprised parental barriers and obligations to siblings; lack of gender-balanced team sports; lack of variety of sports and lack of sporting equipment; and negative feedback from teammates. For white British children, barrier subthemes were lack of adequate play time in school and lack of financial resources. Such barriers may underpin differences in physical activity participation and should be considered in intervention design.
