Abstract: The author’s aim is to give an overview of the development of the official German statistics and specially the official employment-statistics in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR). In order to realise comparability between the official statistics of the former GDR with the official statistics of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), the Federal Statistical Office made substantial conversions and formed new statistical groups respectively (see special tables dealing with backward projection of the GDR-statistics, Table-Part D. and E.).
