    The 2023 cartographic boundary KMLs are simplified representations of selected geographic areas from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). These boundary files are specifically designed for small-scale thematic mapping. When possible, generalization is performed with the intent to maintain the hierarchical relationships among geographies and to maintain the alignment of geographies within a file set for a given year. Geographic areas may not align with the same areas from another year. Some geographies are available as nation-based files while others are available only as state-based files. County subdivisions are the primary divisions of counties and their equivalent entities for the reporting of Census Bureau data. They include legally-recognized minor civil divisions (MCDs) and statistical census county divisions (CCDs), and unorganized territories. In MCD states where no MCD exists or no MCD is defined, the Census Bureau creates statistical unorganized territories to complete coverage. The entire area of the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Island Areas are covered by county subdivisions. The generalized boundaries of legal MCDs are based on those as of January 1, 2023, as reported through the Census Bureau's Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS). The generalized boundaries of all CCDs, delineated in 21 states, are based on those as reported as part of the Census Bureau's Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP) for the 2020 Census.

    Description

    The 1998 Dress Rehearsal was conducted as a prelude to the United States Census of Population and Housing, 2000, in the following locations: (1) Columbia, South Carolina, and surrounding areas, including the town of Irmo and the counties of Chester, Chesterfield, Darlington, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Lee, Marlboro, Newberry, Richland, and Union, (2) Sacramento, California, and (3) Menominee County, Wisconsin, including the Menominee American Indian Reservation. This collection contains map files showing various levels of geography (in the form of Census Tract Outline Maps, Voting District/State Legislative District Outline Maps, and County Block Maps), TIGER/Line digital files, and Corner Point files for the Census 2000 Dress Rehearsal sites. The Corner Point data files contain the bounding latitude and longitude coordinates for each individual map sheet of the 1998 Dress Rehearsal Public Law (P.L.) 94-171 map products. These files include a sheet identifier, minimum and maximum longitude, minimum and maximum latitude, and the map scale (integer value) for each map sheet. The latitude and longitude coordinates are in decimal degrees and expressed as integer values with six implied decimal places. There is a separate Corner Point File for each of the three map types: County Block Map, Census Tract Outline Map, and Voting District/State Legislative District Outline Map. Each of the three map file types is provided in two formats: Portable Document Format (PDF), for viewing, and Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language (HP-GL) format, for plotting. The County Block Maps show the greatest detail and the most complete set of geographic information of all the maps. These large-scale maps depict the smallest geographic entities for which the Census Bureau presents data -- the census blocks -- by displaying the features that delineate them and the numbers that identify them. These maps show the boundaries, names, and codes for American Indian/Alaska Native areas, county subdivisions, places, census tracts, and, for this series, the geographic entities that the states delineated in Phase 2, Voting District Project, of the Redistricting Data Program. The HP-GL version of the County Block Maps is broken down into index maps and map sheets. The map sheets cover a small area, and the index maps are composed of multiple map sheets, showing the entire area. The intent of the County Block Map series is to provide a map for each county on the smallest possible number of map sheets at the maximum practical scale, dependent on the area size of the county and the density of the block pattern. The latter affects the display of block numbers and feature identifiers. The Census Tract Outline Maps show the boundaries and numbers of census tracts, and name the features underlying the boundaries. These maps also show the boundaries and names of counties, county subdivisions, and places. They identify census tracts in relation to governmental unit boundaries. The mapping unit is the county. These large-format maps are produced to support the P.L. 94-171 program and all other 1998 Dress Rehearsal data tabulations. The Voting District/State Legislative District Outline Maps show the boundaries and codes for voting districts as delineated by the states in Phase 2, Voting District Project, of the Redistricting Data Program. The features underlying the voting district boundaries are shown, as well as the names of these features. Additionally, for states that submit the information, these maps show the boundaries and codes for state legislative districts and their underlying features. These maps also show the boundaries of and names of American Indian/Alaska Native areas, counties, county subdivisions, and places. The scale of the district maps is optimized to keep the number of map sheets for each area to a minimum, but the scale and number of map sheets will vary by the area size of the county and the voting districts and state legislative districts delineated by the states. The Census 2000 Dress Rehearsal TIGER/Line Files consist of line segments representing physical features and governmental and statistical boundaries. The files contain information distributed over a series of record types for the spatial objects of a county.     Download In State Plane Projection Here. This is our working version of the Lake County boundary. Although technically the county's eastern border extends eastward into Lake Michigan to the state line where Illinois meets Michigan, we routinely use the Lake Michigan shoreline as our eastern boundary for mapping purposes. The north, west and south boundaries are based on a compilation of survey data which aligns well, but not perfectly, with the border as mapped by neighboring counties and the State of Wisconsin, which forms the northern boundary of the county. Update Frequency: This dataset is updated on a weekly basis.

    The 2015 cartographic boundary KMLs are simplified representations of selected geographic areas from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). These boundary files are specifically designed for small-scale thematic mapping. When possible, generalization is performed with the intent to maintain the hierarchical relationships among geographies and to maintain the alignment of geographies within a file set for a given year. Geographic areas may not align with the same areas from another year. Some geographies are available as nation-based files while others are available only as state-based files. The records in this file allow users to map the parts of Urban Areas that overlap a particular county. After each decennial census, the Census Bureau delineates urban areas that represent densely developed territory, encompassing residential, commercial, and other nonresidential urban land uses. In general, this territory consists of areas of high population density and urban land use resulting in a representation of the "urban footprint." There are two types of urban areas: urbanized areas (UAs) that contain 50,000 or more people and urban clusters (UCs) that contain at least 2,500 people, but fewer than 50,000 people (except in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam which each contain urban clusters with populations greater than 50,000). Each urban area is identified by a 5-character numeric census code that may contain leading zeroes. The primary legal divisions of most states are termed counties. In Louisiana, these divisions are known as parishes. In Alaska, which has no counties, the equivalent entities are the organized boroughs, city and boroughs, municipalities, and for the unorganized area, census areas. The latter are delineated cooperatively for statistical purposes by the State of Alaska and the Census Bureau. In four states (Maryland, Missouri, Nevada, and Virginia), there are one or more incorporated places that are independent of any county organization and thus constitute primary divisions of their states. These incorporated places are known as independent cities and are treated as equivalent entities for purposes of data presentation. The District of Columbia and Guam have no primary divisions, and each area is considered an equivalent entity for purposes of data presentation. The Census Bureau treats the following entities as equivalents of counties for purposes of data presentation: Municipios in Puerto Rico, Districts and Islands in American Samoa, Municipalities in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and Islands in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The entire area of the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Island Areas is covered by counties or equivalent entities. The boundaries for counties and equivalent entities are as of January 1, 2010.

    This is a polygon layer derived from a 1:500,000-scale map showing the original, pre-settlement vegetation cover in Wisconsin. The original vegetation cover data was digitized in 1990 from a 1976 map created from land survey notes written in the mid-1800s when Wisconsin was first surveyed. Linework representing lakes and other hydrographic areas in other data sets were subsequently merged with the original vegetation cover data set to more closely match the source map.This digital version of the original vegetation cover map can be used to identify regional changes in land cover since the time when the state was first surveyed. The data is not intended for landscape-scale analysis.All 72 counties of Wisconsin are represented.     Note: This service is only for using online; full resolution downloads are not supported. Hillshade image service created from Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) derived from county-produced LiDAR covering several Wisconsin counties, with a vertical exaggeration factor of 2. This service was last updated in May, 2023. It can be used in conjunction with its associated Index layer, DEM and Hillshade from LiDAR - Index, to determine flight years of source LiDAR and resolution of source DEMs. Also see the Index layer item details for detailed information about counties included in this service and in related services: DEM from LiDAR (Units in Meters) and DEM from LiDAR (Units in Feet).Some areas display as data gaps (white artifacts) when the service is viewed at statewide scales but display normally when zoomed in to scales of approximately 1:1,000,000 or larger. We hope to address the no-data areas and small-scale data gaps in future updates to this service. The source DEMs have not been hydrologically conditioned. The Vertical Datum for the DEMs is NAVD88.

    The Hillshade is intended for visualization of the landscape, rather than analysis. When queried, the Hillshade pixel values do not indicate elevation; instead, the pixel values range from 0 to 255 because the image is rendered as an 8-bit greyscale image. If elevation values are needed, use the LiDAR-Derived DEM Imagery Layer.

    WI DNR acknowledges the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, USGS, FEMA, the Southeastern WI Regional Planning Commission, and the individual counties listed in DEM and Hillshade from LiDAR - Index, for making source data available.     This collection provides 100-percent data from the Census 2000 Dress Rehearsal conducted in 1998 in the following locations: (1) Columbia, South Carolina, and surrounding areas, including the town of Irmo and the counties of Chester, Chesterfield, Darlington, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Lee, Marlboro, Newberry, Richland, and Union, (2) Sacramento, California, and (3) Menominee County, Wisconsin, including the Menominee American Indian Reservation. The collection includes data on population, race, Hispanic/Latino origin, age, sex, marital status, family type and presence of own children, household relationship, household type and size, and group quarters. There are 104 population (P) and 42 housing (H) tables that provide data down to the block level. There are 29 additional population tables that provide data down to the census tract level. Also provided are accompanying map files, including Census Block and Census Tract Maps, in two formats, Portable Document Format (PDF) for viewing and Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language (HP-GL) for plotting large-scale maps. The Corner Point files contain the bounding latitude and longitude coordinates for each individual map sheet of the 1998 Dress Rehearsal 100-Percent Summary Files map products.

    The goal of the Composite Image Service is to provide a single layer image service with the 'best' air photo or satellite image available for a certain extent. The images are provided as a WMS (web map service). The primary focus is the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area and the State of Minnesota. The secondary interest is the areas bordering Minnesota, especially Wisconsin counties close to the metro area. Imagery is evaluated based on criteria of color, currency, resolution, coverage, season, leaf cover and image quality in order to determine which imagery to include at which scale. See the Lineage field for a list of imagery layers that are visible at different scales.     Wisconsin municipal ward data collected in January 2025 by LTSB. [Attribute Definitions]. This data has been collected in regards to state statute 15(4)(br)1. County clerks will transmit municipal, municipal ward, and county supervisory districts in GIS format to LTSB by January 15th and July 15th* per statute 5.15(4)(br)1: "...no later than January 15 and July 15 of each year*, the county clerk shall transmit to the Legislative Technology Services Bureau a report confirming the boundaries of each municipality, ward, and supervisory district in the county together with a map of the county, in an electronic format approved by the Legislative Technology Services Bureau. Each report shall be current to the nearest January 1 or July 1* preceding the date of the report”. (*with the exception of years ending in “01” where data collection will align closer to typical redistricting timelines of March and October 15)Municipal clerks need to notify the county clerk within 5 days of any boundary change per statute 5.15(4)(b): "Within 5 days after adoption or enactment of an ordinance or resolution under this section or any amendment thereto, the municipal clerk shall transmit one copy of the ordinance or resolution or the amendment to the county clerk of each county in which the municipality is contained, accompanied by the list and map specified in par. (a). Each copy shall identify the name of the municipality and the county or counties in which it is located."Municipal data collected in the January collections will be used by LTSB to update municipal boundaries the U.S. Census Bureau’s TIGER database via the Boundary Annexation Survey (BAS). Counties and municipalities are no longer required to submit boundary changes directly to the Census Bureau. LTSB will submit data to the Census Bureau for the state as a whole.Section 13.96(1)(b) of the Wisconsin Statutes requires LTSB to “upon receipt of municipal boundary information at each reporting interval, reconcile and compile the information received to produce a statewide data base consisting of municipal boundary information for the entire state”.Section 13.96(1)(c) states that LTSB shall “Participate, on behalf of this state, in geographic boundary information programs when offered by the U.S. bureau of the census”.LTSB will publish Municipal Wards, Municipal Boundaries (cities, towns, villages), and County Supervisory Districts to the LTSB GIS HUB website.This data has been collected with the LTSB GeoData Collector.*with the exception of years ending in “01” where data collection will align closer to typical redistricting timelines of March and October 15.

    This feature layer contains Wisconsin hydro flowlines, area hydrography features and culvert lines created and developed by Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources DNR IT GIS Section as part of a pilot project to remap rivers, lakes and streams in Wisconsin coastal counties and HUC 8 watersheds at a scale of 1:5,000 (also referred to as 5k Hydro). WDNR staff used the most current Lidar DEM for each county as the input to the ACPF toolbox to create accumulation derived flowpaths. Waterbody area features and culverts were developed using Lidar breaklines, existing 24k GIS features, and digitization from multi-year aerial photography.     This service provides an Index to help determine the year of air photo acquisition, pixel resolution, and source format of aerial photography that displays in the Wisconsin Leaf-Off Digital Orthophotography image service. The delineations of air photo coverage provided through this Index are approximate, and may not reflect the precise extent of corresponding aerial photography in the historical aerial photography service. The primary source of the linework in this Index is a WI County Boundaries data layer derived from 1:24,000- scale sources. NOTE: Aerial photography often overlaps from one county to one or more adjacent counties.     Description

    This data set was collected to provide wetland information for use in county, city, village, and town planning activities in the respective counties and for regional planning activities in Southeastern Wisconsin. This was clipped from a data set that consists of digital map files containing point and polygon features of wetland information covering Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Washington, and Waukesha Counties. The files were compiled by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission on behalf of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as part of a cooperative agreement to update the Wisconsin Wetland Inventory in Southeastern Wisconsin. Each file covers one U.S. Public Land Survey System survey township, for a total of 82 files in the data set. The survey township files have also been merged into files covering entire counties. The digital map files were compiled with reference to one-inch-equals-100-feet-scale and one-inch-equals-200-feet-scale orthophotography acquired in the Spring of 2010, and also with reference to land use, vegetation, topographic, and soils information.
