    Description

The original historic plat maps for Wisconsin were created between 1832 and 1866. In most cases, the UW Digital Collections Center does not record a specific creation date for the original maps. However, the collection also contains maps which correct previous editions. These more modern maps typically have a specific date or year defined. To view the survey notes associated with this plat map, please visit http://digicoll.library.wisc.edu/cgi-bin/SurveyNotes/SurveyNotes-idx?type=PLSS&town=T001N&range=R001W.

    Description

The Digital Geologic-GIS Map of Saint Croix National Riverway and Vicinity, Minnesota and Wisconsin is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables, and is available in the following GRI-supported GIS data formats: 1.) a 10.1 file geodatabase (sacn_geology.gdb), a 2.) Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) geopackage, and 3.) 2.2 KMZ/KML file for use in Google Earth, however, this format version of the map is limited in data layers presented and in access to GRI ancillary table information. The file geodatabase format is supported with a 1.) ArcGIS Pro map file (.mapx) file (sacn_geology.mapx) and individual Pro layer (.lyrx) files (for each GIS data layer), as well as with a 2.) 10.1 ArcMap (.mxd) map document (sacn_geology.mxd) and individual 10.1 layer (.lyr) files (for each GIS data layer). The OGC geopackage is supported with a QGIS project (.qgz) file. Upon request, the GIS data is also available in ESRI 10.1 shapefile format. Contact Stephanie O'Meara (see contact information below) to acquire the GIS data in these GIS data formats. In addition to the GIS data and supporting GIS files, three additional files comprise a GRI digital geologic-GIS dataset or map: 1.) A GIS readme file (sacn_geology_gis_readme.pdf), 2.) the GRI ancillary map information document (.pdf) file (sacn_geology.pdf) which contains geologic unit descriptions, as well as other ancillary map information and graphics from the source map(s) used by the GRI in the production of the GRI digital geologic-GIS data for the park, and 3.) a user-friendly FAQ PDF version of the metadata (sacn_geology_metadata_faq.pdf). Please read the sacn_geology_gis_readme.pdf for information pertaining to the proper extraction of the GIS data and other map files. Google Earth software is available for free at: https://www.google.com/earth/versions/. QGIS software is available for free at: https://www.qgis.org/en/site/. Users are encouraged to only use the Google Earth data for basic visualization, and to use the GIS data for any type of data analysis or investigation. The data were completed as a component of the Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program, a National Park Service (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Division funded program that is administered by the NPS Geologic Resources Division (GRD). For a complete listing of GRI products visit the GRI publications webpage: For a complete listing of GRI products visit the GRI publications webpage: https://www.nps.gov/subjects/geology/geologic-resources-inventory-products.htm. For more information about the Geologic Resources Inventory Program visit the GRI webpage: https://www.nps.gov/subjects/geology/gri,htm. At the bottom of that webpage is a "Contact Us" link if you need additional information. You may also directly contact the program coordinator, Jason Kenworthy (jason_kenworthy@nps.gov). Source geologic maps and data used to complete this GRI digital dataset were provided by the following: Minnesota Geological Survey, Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey and National Park Service. Detailed information concerning the sources used and their contribution the GRI product are listed in the Source Citation section(s) of this metadata record (sacn_geology_metadata.txt or sacn_geology_metadata_faq.pdf). Users of this data are cautioned about the locational accuracy of features within this dataset. Based on the source map scale of 1:250,000 and United States National Map Accuracy Standards features are within (horizontally) 127 meters or 416.7 feet of their actual location as presented by this dataset. Users of this data should thus not assume the location of features is exactly where they are portrayed in Google Earth, ArcGIS, QGIS or other software used to display this dataset. All GIS and ancillary tables were produced as per the NPS GRI Geology-GIS Geodatabase Data Model v. 2.3. (available at: https://www.nps.gov/articles/gri-geodatabase-model.htm).

The boundaries used to create the polygons herein were compiled from the official John H. Chafee Coastal Barrier Resources System CBRS maps, which are accessible at the Service’s Headquarters office or https://www.fws.gov/program/coastal-barrier-resources-act/maps-and-data. These digital polygons are only representations of the CBRS boundaries shown on the official CBRS maps and are not to be considered authoritative. The Service is not responsible for any misuse or misinterpretation of this digital data set, including use of the data to determine eligibility for federal financial assistance such as federal flood insurance. As maps are revised, this data set will be updated with the new boundaries. CBRS boundaries viewed using the CBRS Mapper or the shapefile are subject to misrepresentations beyond the Service’s control, including misalignments of the boundaries with third party base layers and mis-projections of spatial data. The official CBRS map is the controlling document and should be consulted for all official determinations. Official determinations are recommended for all properties that are in close proximity (within 20 feet) of a CBRS boundary. For an official determination of whether or not an area or specific property is located within the CBRS, please follow the procedures found at https://www.fws.gov/service/coastal-barrier-resources-system-property-documentation. For any questions regarding the CBRS, please contact your local Service field office or email CBRA@fws.gov. Description

The principal focus of the wetland inventory is to produce wetland maps that are graphic representations of the type, size and location of wetlands in Wisconsin. Currently, there are two different datasets that have been created using different mapping methods and technologies.

The majority of the state was mapped using traditional stereo-pair, black-and-white, infrared photography. Within this context, the objective was to provide reconnaissance level information on the location, type, size of these habitats such that they are accurate at the nominal scale of the 1:20,000 (1 inch = 1667 feet) base map.

    LiDAR Technology

LiDAR has advanced the ability to see and map wetland and surface water features.

New wetland mapping is underway in areas across the state at a nominal scale of 1:2000 (1 inch = 166.7 feet). The data are being mapped according to the National Wetland Inventory standards using new methods. Please see the WWI SOP for more information.

See LiDAR based status map for more information.

    Data

The download contains both the older, high altitude, stereo-photo based mapping as well as the newer LiDAR based mapping. Any older WWI data within a new project area boundary have been removed.

The DNR recognizes the limitations of using remotely sensed information as the primary data source. They are to be used as a guide for planning purposes.

There is no attempt, in either the design or products of this inventory, to define the limits of jurisdiction of any federal, state, or local government or to establish the geographical scope of the regulatory programs of government agencies. Anyone intending to engage in activities involving modifications within or adjacent to wetland areas should seek the advice of appropriate federal, state, or local agencies concerning specified agency regulatory programs and jurisdictions that may affect such activities. The most accurate method of determining the legal extent of a wetland for federal or state regulations is a field delineation of the wetland boundary by a professional trained in wetland delineation techniques.

See https://dnr.wi.gov/topic/wetlands/inventory.html for more information on Wisconsin Wetland Inventory mapping.

In 2012 a joint project was started by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) and University of Wisconsin –Milwaukee (UWM) to support MMSD’s Integrated Regional Stormwater Management Program. Digital copies of scans of various historical map sources were collected and georeferenced to Wisconsin State Plane Coordinate Systems (NAD 1927 and NAD 1983). Historical streams and water features in the Milwaukee area were mapped to a geographic information system (GIS). Water features were identified and digitized from the scanned source maps. These features included:Stream lines River lines Lake Michigan Shoreline Pond boundaries Lake boundaries Swamp or marsh boundaries Spring locations An Esri ArcGIS geodatabase was created to house the digitized features and associated attributes as delineated in the scanned source maps. The Generalized Future Land Use (GFLU) Map makes recommendations for future land uses and development intensities to guide the physical development of Madison. The future land use categories guide what types of zoning can be applied, and ultimately what can be built in different parts of the city. For example, a parcel of land specified for future “Medium Residential” land use could be rezoned to allow for a multifamily apartment building but could not be rezoned to allow for industrial uses.

    Description

The Wisconsin Traffic Counts dataset combines traffic count data with GIS mapping technology to display data in a tabular format, on a map, or both. DV_TRADS_AADT_PT is a source of Wisconsin DOT traffic data information for road sections of the State Highways or select Local Federal-Aid roads. Traffic counts are reported as the number of vehicles expected to pass a given location on an average day of the year. This value is called the "annual average daily traffic" or AADT. The AADT is produced for either continuous count sites or short duration count sites. WisDOT collects continuous count data from about 320 permanent data collection locations primarily located on the State Trunk Highway System. Data at continuous count sites are scheduled to be collected in hourly intervals each day of the year. A short duration traffic count usually collects hourly intervals for a 48-hour period, taken at the specific locations throughout the state. Using continuous count data, short duration counts are then adjusted for the variation in traffic volume that occurs throughout the year. Short duration counts are collected over three, six, or ten-year cycles at more than 26,000 rural and urban locations throughout the state. In addition to Wisconsin DOT use for transportation management purposes, Wisconsin DOT is required to collect and report these statistics to the Federal Highway Administration monthly and annually.

Description

The original historic plat maps for Wisconsin were created between 1832 and 1866. In most cases, the UW Digital Collections Center does not record a specific creation date for the original maps. However, the collection also contains maps which correct previous editions. These more modern maps typically have a specific date or year defined.
