The field notes and plat maps of the public land survey of Wisconsin are a valuable resource for original land survey information, as well as for understanding Wisconsin's landscape history. The survey of Wisconsin was conducted between 1832 and 1866 by the federal General Land Office. This work established the township, range and section grid; the pattern upon which land ownership and land use is based. The survey records were transferred to the Wisconsin Board of Commissioners of Public Lands (BCPL) after the original survey was completed. Since that time, these records have been available for consultation at the BCPL's office in Madison, as hand-transcriptions, and more recently on microfilm. The Digital Geologic-GIS Map of Saint Croix National Riverway and Vicinity, Minnesota and Wisconsin is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables, and is available in the following GRI-supported GIS data formats: 1.) a 10.1 file geodatabase (sacn_geology.gdb), a 2.) Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) geopackage, and 3.) 2.2 KMZ/KML file for use in Google Earth, however, this format version of the map is limited in data layers presented and in access to GRI ancillary table information. The file geodatabase format is supported with a 1.) ArcGIS Pro map file (.mapx) file (sacn_geology.mapx) and individual Pro layer (.lyrx) files (for each GIS data layer), as well as with a 2.) 10.1 ArcMap (.mxd) map document (sacn_geology.mxd) and individual 10.1 layer (.lyr) files (for each GIS data layer). The OGC geopackage is supported with a QGIS project (.qgz) file. Upon request, the GIS data is also available in ESRI 10.1 shapefile format. This Coastal Barrier Resources System (CBRS) data set, produced by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), contains areas designated as undeveloped coastal barriers in accordance with the Coastal Barrier Resources Act (CBRA), 16 U.S.C. 3501 et seq., as amended. The boundaries used to create the polygons herein were compiled from the official John H. Chafee Coastal Barrier Resources System CBRS maps, which are accessible at the Service’s Headquarters office or https://www.fws.gov/program/coastal-barrier-resources-act/maps-and-data. These digital polygons are only representations of the CBRS boundaries shown on the official CBRS maps and are not to be considered authoritative. The Service is not responsible for any misuse or misinterpretation of this digital data set, including use of the data to determine eligibility for federal financial assistance such as federal flood insurance. As maps are revised, this data set will be updated with the new boundaries. CBRS boundaries viewed using the CBRS Mapper or the shapefile are subject to misrepresentations beyond the Service’s control, including misalignments of the boundaries with third party base layers and mis-projections of spatial data. The official CBRS map is the controlling document and should be consulted for all official determinations. The files were prepared at one-inch-equals-100-feet scale in urban areas of the County and one-inch-equals-200-feet scale in rural areas of the County. The original digital map files were in GenaMap format and then the GenaMap files were converted to ESRI shape file format. The ESRI shape files were converted to ESRI personal geodatabase and further converted to ESRI enterprise geodatabase files. The data was converted to ESRI Parcel fabric and the Local Government Information Model (LGIM). It is currently maintained in the LGIM Parcel fabric. The data is updated nightly with current ownership and geometry changes.
Original Wisconsin Wetland Inventory maps were created using stereo-pair, 9”x9”, B/W (NIR) aerial photography flown at a scale of 1:20000 (1in=1667ft). Each photo covered four Public Land Survey System Sections with each section being approximately 1 square mile. Wetland delineations were drafted onto the photos using stereoscopes. The photos were scanned and the wetland information digitized into a GIS. Data mapped between 1988-2016. 2002 Assembly Districts: Districts as created by the Federal Court Redistricting Decision dated May 22, 2002. The districts were effective as of May 30, 2002, when the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin issued its decision in Baumgart et al. v. Wendelberger et al. The plan used the statewide municipal ward dataset created by local officials using U.S. Census Bureau's TIGER 2000 data and annexations up to August 1, 2001.
This feature layer contains Wisconsin hydro flowlines, area hydrography features and culvert lines created and developed by Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources DNR IT GIS Section as part of a pilot project to remap rivers, lakes and streams in Wisconsin coastal counties and HUC 8 watersheds at a scale of 1:5,000 (also referred to as 5k Hydro). WDNR staff used the most current Lidar DEM for each county as the input to the ACPF toolbox to create accumulation derived flowpaths. Waterbody area features and culverts were developed using Lidar breaklines, existing 24k GIS features, and digitization from multi-year aerial photography. The Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) is a comprehensive aggregated collection of hydrologic unit data consistent with the national criteria for delineation and resolution. It defines the areal extent of surface water drainage to a point except in coastal or lake front areas where there could be multiple outlets as stated by the "Federal Standards and Procedures for the National Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD)" “Standard” (https://pubs.er.usgs.gov/publication/tm11A34). Watershed boundaries are determined solely upon science-based hydrologic principles, not favoring any administrative boundaries or special projects, nor particular program or agency. This dataset represents the hydrologic unit boundaries to the 12-digit level for all HUs coded as being entirely or partially contained in Wisconsin.At a minimum, the HUs are delineated at 1:24,000-scale in the conterminous United States, meeting the National Map Accuracy Standards (NMAS). Higher resolution boundaries are being developed where partners and data exist and will be incorporated back into the WBD. WBD data are delivered as a dataset of polygons and corresponding lines that define the boundary of the polygon. WBD polygon attributes include hydrologic unit codes (HUC), size (in the form of acres and square kilometers), name, downstream hydrologic unit code, type of watershed, non-contributing areas, and flow modifications. The HUC describes where the unit is in the country and the level of the unit. WBD line attributes contain the highest level of hydrologic unit for each boundary, line source information and flow modifications. Staff in the WI DNR GIS Section downloaded the National WBD from the USGS National Map Staged Products Directory on April 13th, 2023: https://prd-tnm.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html?prefix=StagedProducts/Hydrography/WBD/National/GDB/. The USGS National WBD metadata indicates a Publication Date of 03-28-2023. WI DNR staff extracted all HUs entirely or partially contained in Wisconsin, using information in the WBD "STATES" attribute. The data were then projected to the Wisconsin Transverse Mercator coordinate referencing system (WKID 3071). This feature class includes a subset of the original WBD attribute data. This dataset represents the hydrologic unit boundaries to the 10-digit level for all HUs coded as being entirely or partially contained in Wisconsin.At a minimum, the HUs are delineated at 1:24,000-scale in the conterminous United States, meeting the National Map Accuracy Standards (NMAS). Higher resolution boundaries are being developed where partners and data exist and will be incorporated back into the WBD. WBD data are delivered as a dataset of polygons and corresponding lines that define the boundary of the polygon. WBD polygon attributes include hydrologic unit codes (HUC), size (in the form of acres and square kilometers), name, downstream hydrologic unit code, type of watershed, non-contributing areas, and flow modifications. The HUC describes where the unit is in the country and the level of the unit. WBD line attributes contain the highest level of hydrologic unit for each boundary, line source information and flow modifications. Staff in the WI DNR GIS Section downloaded the National WBD from the USGS National Map Staged Products Directory on April 13th, 2023: https://prd-tnm.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html?prefix=StagedProducts/Hydrography/WBD/National/GDB/. The USGS National WBD metadata indicates a Publication Date of 03-28-2023. WI DNR staff extracted all HUs entirely or partially contained in Wisconsin, using information in the WBD "STATES" attribute. The data were then projected to the Wisconsin Transverse Mercator coordinate referencing system (WKID 3071). This feature class includes a subset of the original WBD attribute data. The field notes and plat maps of the public land survey of Wisconsin are a valuable resource for original land survey information, as well as for understanding Wisconsin's landscape history. The survey of Wisconsin was conducted between 1832 and 1866 by the federal General Land Office. This work established the township, range and section grid; the pattern upon which land ownership and land use is based. The survey records were transferred to the Wisconsin Board of Commissioners of Public Lands (BCPL) after the original survey was completed. Since that time, these records have been available for consultation at the BCPL's office in Madison, as hand-transcriptions, and more recently on microfilm. Now, they are being made available via the internet as electronic images. The original historic plat maps for Wisconsin were created between 1832 and 1866. In most cases, the UW Digital Collections Center does not record a specific creation date for the original maps. However, the collection also contains maps which correct previous editions. These more modern maps typically have a specific date or year defined.
