This layer is intended for use in the Wisconsin PFAS Interactive Data Viewer GIS mapping application, use for any other purpose should be done with caution to avoid misuse or misinterpretation of information contained in this layer. Please seek appropriate DNR staff support. This layer has been created specifically to display monitoring locations and results from Wisconsin DNR PFAS surface water and fish tissue samples. The results are used to help develop a baseline of PFAS contamination within the state, help to identify action areas and provide the necessary data for appropriate responses. For more information, please visit the DNR's Surface Water and Fish Tissue PFAS Sampling website.
Sample results from Wisconsin DNR’s Private Well PFAS Study: “Prevalence and Source Tracing of PFAS in Shallow Groundwater Used for Drinking Water in Wisconsin”, Environmental Science & Technology.Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other water quality parameter results from samples collected from 450 homes with shallow private wells throughout Wisconsin. The samples were analyzed for 44 PFAS, major ions, metals, total organic carbon, and indicators of human waste as well as agricultural influence. More information about the study can be found at https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/Groundwater/PFASStudy.html.About the GIS datasetThis feature layer contains a polygon (PW_PFAS_Study_Well_Sections) for each feature which represents the section in which the private well sample was taken along with the table (PW_PFAS_Study_Sample_Data) with the sample results for each private well. Viewing the data using ArcGIS OnlineTo view the data using ArcGIS Online it is best to view using Map Viewer Classic due to the relationship class between the section and the sample results. The relationship class is based on the Wisconsin Unique Well Number (WUWN). Alternate GIS formatDownload the File Geodatabase, located here.
