    Description

This vector tile layer presents the World Topographic Map (with Contours and Hillshade) style (World Edition) and provides a basemap for the world, symbolized with a classic Esri topographic map style, including both vector contour lines and vector hillshade. This layer includes highways, major roads, minor roads, railways, water features, cities, parks, landmarks, building footprints, and administrative boundaries. This vector tile layer provides unique capabilities for customization and high-resolution display. This is a multisource vector map style. The root.json style file calls three vector tile services to display all the data in the map. The "esri" source contains all the basemap tiles for this layer. The other two sources are "contours" and "hillshade". Click the View style button on right to see the json. The multisource section of this code is shown below."sources": { "esri": { "type": "vector", "url": "https://basemaps.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/World_Basemap_v2/VectorTileServer" }, "contours": { "type": "vector", "url": "https://basemaps.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/World_Contours_v2/VectorTileServer" }, "hillshade": { "type": "vector", "url": "https://basemaps.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/World_Hillshade_v2/VectorTileServer" } },This vector tile layer is built using the same data sources used for other Esri Vector Basemaps. his web map provides a detailed vector basemap for the world symbolized with a classic Esri topographic map style including vector contours and vector hillshade for added context. The web map is very similar in content and style to the popular World Topographic Map, which was delivered as a tile layer with raster fused map cache. This map includes a vector tile layer that provides unique capabilities for customization and high-resolution display. This map includes highways, major roads, minor roads, railways, water features, cities, parks, landmarks, building footprints, administrative boundaries, and shaded relief for added context. The layers in this map are built using the same data sources used for the World Topographic Map and other Esri vector basemaps. The tile layer contains a multisource map style. This map includes vector contour lines and vector hillshade. Even though there are three source paths in the layer's json, these are referenced from a single vector tile layer in this web map. The root.json style file calls three vector Hosted Tile Layers to display all the data in the map. One source (esri) contains all the basemap tiles for this layer. The other source (contours) contains all the contour lines. The third source (hillshade) contains all the relief tiles. Note: the vector World Hillshade layer is in beta and includes global coverage to ~1:72K. In North America and Europe the relief is displayed to full resolution at the largest scales. Use the Map Viewer (not Classic) to view all the features in this layer as intended.

    Description

This web map provides a detailed vector basemap for the world symbolized with a classic Esri topographic map style including a shaded relief layer for added context. The web map is very similar in content and style to the popular World Topographic Map, which is delivered as a tile layer with raster fused map cache. This map includes a vector tile layer that provides unique capabilities for customization and high-resolution display. This comprehensive topographic map includes highways, major roads, minor roads, railways, water features, cities, parks, landmarks, building footprints, and administrative boundaries, designed for use with shaded relief for added context. The layers in this map are built using the same data sources used for the World Topographic Map and other Esri basemaps. Alignment of boundaries is a presentation of the feature provided by our data vendors and does not imply endorsement by Esri or any governing authority. Updated Map DesignThis style is an update from our raster Topographic style. The land fill and land use opacity was decreased to better emphasize the relief. Land fill polygon changes from white at a small scale to gray tone at larger scales. Labels of a number of feature classes were improved in color, size, and/or spacing. Open water bathymetric colors were improved to allow a smooth transition to scales without the water depth polygons. Road color, line width and effects were adjusted. Overall, additional feature class specifications were changed in conjunction with the land fill opacity change. Use this Map This map is designed to be used as a basemap for overlaying other layers of information or as a stand-alone reference map. You can add layers to this web map and save as your own map. If you like, you can add this web map to a custom basemap gallery for others in your organization to use in creating web maps. If you would like to add this map as a layer in other maps you are creating, you may use the tile layer item referenced in this map. Customize this MapBecause this map includes a vector tile layer, you can customize the map to change its content and symbology. You are able to turn on and off layers, change symbols for layers, switch to alternate local language (in some areas), and refine the treatment of disputed boundaries. See the Vector Basemap group for other vector web maps. For details on how to customize this map, please refer to these articles on the ArcGIS Online Blog.

The Australian portion of the series consists of 49 maps. They were produced to an international specification using the R502 series at 1:250,000 scale as source material. Production commenced in 1926 and was completed in 1978. The maps were revised from time to time and the last reprint was undertaken in 2003. Each standard map sheet covers 4 degrees of latitude by 6 degrees of longitude and was produced using a Lambert Conformal Conic projection with 2 standard parallels. The series has recently been superseded by the 1:1 000 000 topographic map general reference.

    Description

This layer portrays elevation as an artistic hillshade. The map is designed to be used as a backdrop for topographical, soil, hydro, landcover or other outdoor recreational maps. It’s a default relief background in various basemaps such as Topographic, Terrain with Labels. The map is compiled from a variety of data sources from commercial, community maps and many authoritative organizations across the globe. The basemap has global coverage down to a scale of ~1:72k. In the United States, parts of Europe, Asia and Africa coverage goes down to ~1:9k. To see the coverage and sources of various datasets comprising this map layer, view the Elevation Coverage Map. Additionally, this layer uses data from Maxar’s Precision 3D Digital Terrain Models for parts of the globe. The map is based on the Multi-directional hillshade algorithm.Precise Tile RegistrationThe World Hillshade map uses the improved tiling scheme “WGS84 Geographic, Version 2” to ensure proper tile positioning at higher resolutions (neighborhood level and beyond). The new tiling scheme is much more precise than tiling schemes of the legacy basemaps Esri released years ago. We recommend that you start using this new basemap for any new web maps in WGS84 that you plan to author. Due to the number of differences between the old and new tiling schemes, some web clients will not be able to overlay tile layers in the old and new tiling schemes in one web map.

For details on data sources contributed by the GIS community, view the map of Community Maps Basemap Contributors. Esri Vector Basemaps are updated monthly. This layer is used in the Topographic (Vector) web map included in ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World.See the Vector Basemaps group for other vector tile layers.
