The map includes 15m TerraColor imagery at small and mid-scales (~1:591M down to ~1:72k) and 2.5m SPOT Imagery (~1:288k to ~1:72k) for the world. The map features 0.5m resolution imagery in the continental United States and parts of Western Europe from DigitalGlobe. Additional DigitalGlobe sub-meter imagery is featured in many parts of the world. In the United States, 1 meter or better resolution NAIP imagery is available in some areas. In other parts of the world, imagery at different resolutions has been contributed by the GIS User Community. In select communities, very high resolution imagery (down to 0.03m) is available down to ~1:280 scale. Wayback imagery is a digital archive of the World Imagery basemap, enabling users to access more than 100 different versions of World Imagery archived over the past 10 years. Each record in the archive represents a version of World Imagery as it existed on the date it was published. This app offers a dynamic Wayback browsing and discovery experience where previous versions of the World Imagery basemap are presented within the map, along a timeline, and as a list. Versions that resulted in local changes are dynamically presented to the user based on location and scale. Preview changes by hovering over and/or selecting individual layers. When ready, one or more Wayback layers can be added to an export queue and pushed to a new ArcGIS Online web map. Browse, preview, select, and create, it’s all there! For more information on Wayback check out these articles. You can also find every Wayback tile layer in the Wayback imagery group.

    Description

Wayback is a digital archive, providing users with access to the different versions of World Imagery created over time. Each layer in the archive represents a snapshot of the entire World Imagery map, as it existed on the date it was published. This Wayback layer is the July 21, 2022 version of World Imagery. See World Imagery (Wayback 2022-07-21) Metadata for detailed information about each image source in this layer.World Imagery provides one meter or better satellite and aerial imagery for much of the world, and lower resolution satellite imagery worldwide. As World Imagery is updated with more current imagery, new versions of the map are published. When and where updates occur, the previous imagery is replaced and is no longer visible. For many use cases, the new imagery is more desirable and typically preferred. Other times, however, the previous imagery may support use cases that the new imagery does not. In these cases, a user may need to access a previous version of World Imagery.Wayback currently provides access to all published versions of World Imagery, dating back to February 20, 2014. There is an ArcGIS Online item for every version which can be viewed in the Wayback Imagery group.

    Description

This layer presents an alternative view of the World Imagery map designed to be used as a neutral imagery basemap, with de-saturated colors, that is useful for overlaying other brightly styled layers. This map is intended to support 'firefly cartography' and other cartographic designs that require a neutral background, with the spatial context and texture of imagery, to contrast with the foreground thematic layers that are designed to capture the users attention.Content meant to provide spatial context (the basemap) should recede in visual priority, helping to establish the thematic layers that they support (rather than compete with them). There are many ways to sufficiently mute your basemap, but for satellite imagery, de-saturation is a nice option. An image that is all or mostly black and white won’t compete as much with the brightly colored thematic data that it supports. With this map, the color of the imagery is mostly removed at the smallest global scales and then gradually re-introduced at the larger scales, where the full detail of the imagery is available.

This web map contains the same layers as the Imagery with Labels basemap that is available in the basemap gallery of ArcGIS.com's map viewer, ArcGIS Explorer Online, ArcGIS Explorer Desktop, and the mobile clients. The Imagery with Labels basemap contains the World Imagery map service with the Boundaries and Places map service drawn on top. When you use this basemap in a web map, any map services that you add into the map get sandwiched between the imagery and the labels drawn on top, so this is a good basemap you use if you want to see services that don't contain their own labels with imagery drawn behind them and reference labels drawn on top. This web map also includes the World Transportation map service. This service shows streets, roads and highways and their names. When you zoom in to the highest level of detail the lines disappear and you just see the street names and road numbers.Feedback: Have you ever seen a problem in the Esri World Imagery Map that you wanted to see fixed? This web map contains the new Hybrid Reference Layer vector tile layer, which is designed to be used to overlay imagery. The vector tile layer is similar in content and style to the popular Imagery with Labels map, which is delivered as a map service with raster tiles, with additional labels for transportation features. The 'Imagery with Labels' basemap contains the World Imagery map service and the World Boundaries and Places map service, so when you use that basemap you get boundaries and places, but you don't get highways and streets at small scales or street labels at large scale. If you prefer a map that uses raster tiles for both boundary and transportation features, you can use the Imagery with Labels and Transportation map.

    Description

This World Imagery Metadata layer provides detailed information for each image source in World Imagery (Wayback 2019-08-07). With this metadata layer, a user can point and click anywhere on the map to get additional information about the imagery at that location. However, the information provided is only relevant to World Imagery (Wayback 2019-08-07).World Imagery basemap provides one meter or better satellite and aerial imagery for much of the world, and lower resolution satellite imagery worldwide. This Metadata layer, and the associated Wayback imagery layer, represent a version of World Imagery content as of 2019-08-07.The World Imagery basemap is regularly updated with more current imagery. When and where updates occur, the previous imagery is replaced and is no longer visible. For many use cases, the updated imagery is more desirable and typically preferred. Other times, however, the previous imagery may support use cases that the new imagery does not. In these cases, a user may need to access a previous version of the World Imagery basemap.Wayback imagery is a digital archive of the World Imagery basemap, enabling users to access different versions of the basemap archived over the years. Each record in the archive represents the World Imagery basemap as it existed at each publication date.Wayback currently supports all updated versions of World Imagery dating back to August 07, 2019. There is an AGOL item for every version and each of these items can be viewed in the Wayback Imagery group.

This data release contains two vector polygon shapefile datasets that delineate footprints of land surface disturbance and waste that may represent potential above-ground resources resulting from past mining in Alaska. These footprints were mapped on 2023 World Imagery at the location of currently inactive Alaska Resource Data File sites of past mining production.

Description

World Imagery provides one meter or better satellite and aerial imagery in many parts of the world and lower resolution satellite imagery worldwide.
