At the end of 2024, Alphabet had 183,323 full-time employees. Up until 2015, these figures were reported as Google employees. The alphabet was created through a corporate restructuring of Google in October 2015 and became the parent company of Google as well as several of its former subsidiaries, including Calico, X, CapitalG and Sidewalk Labs. Google’s popularity Google is one of the most famous internet companies in the world, and in May 2024, the most visited multi-platform website in the United States, with over 278 million U.S. unique visitors during that month alone. The California-based multinational internet company has been delivering digital products and services since its creation in 1996. Due to the popularity of its search engine, the verb “to google” has entered the everyday language and the Oxford Dictionary. In addition to that, the company has also crafted itself as one of the most desirable employers, largely due to the many perks it offers in its offices worldwide. Some of the most appealing aspects of working for Google according to its employees include readily available foods and drinks, good working conditions, and ample communal spaces for relaxing, as well as many health benefits and generous salaries. Google offices and employees As of February 2022, Google and Alphabet had more than 70 offices in over 200 cities throughout 50 around the globe, including Germany, Czechia, Finland, Canada, Mexico, Turkey, and New Zealand. The company’s headquarters, also known as “the Googleplex,” are located in Mountain View, California, while other office locations in American states include New York, Georgia, Texas, Washington D.C., and Massachusetts. As Alphabet, the company employs a total over 182 thousand full-time staff, in addition to many other temporary and internship positions. Per the most recent diversity report published in July 2021, most Google employees were male and only 34 percent were female – a figure that has barely changed since the company started reporting on the diversity of its employees in 2016. Furthermore, as of 2021, women occupied only 28.1 percent of leadership positions and 24.6 percent of tech positions. Although Google has regularly stated that the company is committed to promoting ethnic diversity among its personnel, some 54.4 percent of its U.S. employees are White and only 3.3 percent of employees are Black.

Number of employer establishments and number of employees at the end of the year, by department x major sector x number of employees in the establishment. ► UPDATED: end of year + ~160 days.
Field: employers' establishments in the private sector, general scheme.
Source: Urssaf
Methodology
** Disclaimer (16/06/2023)**: As of the publication of June 2023, apprentices are included in the count of employees. They were previously excluded. (see Stat'Ur n°362). _
** Disclaimer (20/01/2022)**: **** The introduction since March 2015 of the Registered Social Declaration (DSN), which replaces in particular the Summary Contribution Schedule (BRC), modifies the reporting information necessary for the calculation of the statistical indicators presented in this publication. The new source makes it possible to calculate institutions’ headcounts on the basis of individual contract data, whereas the aggregate headcount of those same institutions, historically present in the BRCs, remained temporarily present in DSNs. The integration of individual data into the statistical processing chain of the number of employees, carried out gradually since 2016, was finalised in June 2021 with the publication of the results for the first quarter of 2021. Workforce data are now 100% derived from the use of individual DSN data (see Acoss Stat 325). In view of these methodological changes, more significant than usual revisions, particularly in terms of staffing levels, can therefore be observed compared with the data previously reported.
- The number of establishments includes all employers who reported a payroll in the last month of the year (before the update of 20/01/2022, it included all establishments that reported a payroll in the last quarter of the year).
- Employee numbers are measured at the end of the year. An establishment can therefore be counted with 0 employees if wages were paid during the last quarter but there is no longer an employment contract in progress on 31 December.
- The number of employees in the establishment is calculated on the basis of the number of employees measured on 31 December.
- A sole proprietorship is included in the field only if it pays a payroll.
- The scope of the data disseminated here is the same as that of the publications of the Acoss and the Urssaf on the number of employees and the payroll. This field was modified on the occasion of the publication of data for the first quarter of 2017 in connection with the new production process for quarterly employment estimates carried out by Acoss, Dares and INSEE. In this context, the interim staff produced in the publications of Acoss and Urssaf are now mobilizing Dares data. However, unlike these publications, the data downloadable here still includes interim staff from the Acoss production line based on DSN data.
- The data contained in this set are raw, unlike the quarterly (more aggregated) data published in the short-term publications of Acoss and Urssaf, which are seasonally adjusted.
