    Description

PURPOSE: "Biological, relative abundance, and environmental data have been collected from the Yellowknife River Cisco population that can be used to inform fisheries management decision-making. Under the conditions of a commercial licence issued under the New Emerging Fisheries Policy, licence holders are required to record catch and biological information to support the assessment of the feasibility and sustainability of the fishery over time, and potential advancement in the stages of a developing fishery. In addition to the information collected from the commercial harvest (fishery-dependent), a fishery-independent sampling and snorkel survey program was conducted with the objective of collecting additional biological, observational, and environmental data during the fall spawning run. The objective of this report is to compile available data from fishery-dependent and fishery-independent sampling of adfluvial Yellowknife River Cisco during fall, 1998-2020*, specifically by: • Summarizing commercial fishery quotas and reported harvest; • Characterizing population demographics and examining for trends over time; • Summarizing metrics of relative abundance (i.e., catch-per-unit-effort data and snorkel survey observations) and examining for trends over time; and • Determining if there were any associations between relative abundance of Cisco and river discharge and temperature. *A commercial harvest occurred in 1998, although no biological or catch-effort records were located. In addition, in response to concerns about the status of the population, the fishery was put on hold 2006–2009 to allow for a population assessment (no data during that time). DESCRIPTION: Cisco (Coregonus artedi) from the Yellowknife River, Northwest Territories, are an important fishery resource for nearby communities. Biological, catch-effort, and environmental data were collected from the Yellowknife River (Tartan Rapids and Bluefish areas) during their fall spawning run from Great Slave Lake. Data from the commercial harvest (fishery-dependent; 1998–2020) and supplementary monitoring (fishery-independent; 2013–2020) of these adfluvial Cisco were compiled to summarize commercial fishery quotas and reported harvest, characterize population demographics and catch-effort over time, and assess potential associations between relative abundance and seasonal river characteristics. A single commercial fishing licence for Cisco was issued on an annual basis each fall for 1,000 kg from 1998–2002, 2,000 kg from 2004–2005, 1,000 kg from 2010–2018, and 1,500 kg from 2019–2020. Cisco ranged from 102–239 mm fork length, 10.0–139.6 g round weight, and 1 and 9 years of age, with the majority of fish (>99%) being sexually mature. The demographics (length, weight, age) of the spawning population collected from the commercial fishery remained relatively stable between 1999 and 2020. Catch-effort of the commercial fishery varied widely among years without trend, although this was not standardized to the number of individuals/nets used to capture the fish. The biological, catch-effort, and environmental data collected from the Yellowknife River spawning population of Cisco serve as a benchmark for their ongoing assessment and management.

An owner's geographic location is determined by the location of the occupied property for both single- and multiple-property owners. A residential property refers to all land and structures intended for private occupancy whether on a permanent or a temporary basis.2) The geographic boundaries used in this table are the 2016 census subdivisions boundaries.3) Previous reference period estimates are subject to revision.4) The Composite Quality Indicator (CQI) shown in this table is created by combining many individual quality indicators, each one representing the quality of different Canadian Housing Statistics Program (CHSP) data processing steps (for example: coding, geocoding, linkage and imputation) and includes the following values: A - Excellent: All domain variables and the variable of interest are of excellent quality. B - Very good: All domain variables and the variable of interest are of very good to excellent quality. C - Good: The quality of some of the domain variables or the variable of interest is considered good while all the other variables are of very good to excellent quality. D - Acceptable: The quality of some of the domain variables or the variable of interest is considered acceptable while all the other variables are of good to excellent quality. E - Use with caution: Several domain variables or the variable of interest are of poor quality. F - Too unreliable to be published. The CQIs are available starting with the reference period of 2020, except for the Northwest Territories where they are available from 2019 reference period.4) "Property type" refers to property characteristics and/or dwelling configuration5) Estimates by property type in Newfoundland and Labrador are only available in the census subdivision of St. John’s.6) Estimates by property type in Northwest Territories are not available.7) Estimates by property type in Nunavut are not available.8) The number of properties owned by the property owner is limited to residential properties that are within a given province.9) Newfoundland and Labrador estimates are not available at the provincial level and for the category “Outside of census metropolitan areas (CMAs) and census agglomerations (CAs)”.10) Northwest Territories estimates are only available in the census agglomeration of Yellowknife.11) A condominium apartment" refers to a set of living quarters that is owned individually12) Counts undergo random rounding, a process that transforms all raw counts into randomly rounded counts. This reduces the possibility of identifying individuals in the tabulations. All percentages are derived from rounded counts, subtotals and totals may not exactly equal the sum of components due to system rounding.13) The number of property owners estimates are not available for the 2018 reference period.14) The number of owners should be used with caution outside of census metropolitan areas (CMAs) and census agglomerations (CAs), as well as the proportion of owners by geography. This note does not apply to Nunavut.15) Assessment value" refers to the assessed value of the property for the purposes of determining property taxes. It is important to note that the assessed value does not necessarily represent the market value. Given that different provinces and territories have their own assessment periods and duration of the valuation roll16) For Nunavut, the property use indicator is not available, the universe of this table includes all individual resident owners. For owners with multiple properties, the geographic location and type of property are from the residential property with the highest assessment value.17) Averages and medians are calculated using values greater than zero for the variables of interest.18) Total assessment value" represents the sum of the assessment values of all residential properties owned by an owner within a given province."19) Total income of person" refers to the total income of an individualCite: Statistics Canada. Description

This survey provides estimates of food expenditures and quantities purchased by households. Throughout the year members of selected households were asked to record expenditures on food and beverages for a period of 2 weeks. Topics include: composition of households; characteristics of reference person, spouse and dwelling; food and beverages while away from home; personal income in the last 12 months; food and beverages purchased from stores by type of store; and food and beverages from restaurants by type of restaurant. There are two files to this survey; the Detailed Expenditure File and the Summary Household File. The household file provides summary level food category information at a weekly level (either week one or week two or both if available) and also socio-economic characteristics of the household. The food expenditures are presented by specific food item purchased from stores, locally and on day trips. Records may be linked using the variable "identification number". The 1996 survey was designed to provide information for persons living in private households in the ten provinces of Canada as well as Whitehorse and Yellowknife. Users should note that data on all expenditures for 1996 were collected in a separate survey - the Family Expenditure Survey (FAMEX). The 1996 Food Survey had the same coverage as the 1996 Family Expenditure Survey. A public-use microdata file has also been produced from the 1996 Family Expenditure Survey. In order to maintain respondent confidentiality, records from Whitehorse and Yellowknife have been excluded from both 1996 files. There are two main files (the household file and the detailed food file).

    Description

This public-use microdata tape is the latest available using Canadian Family Expenditure Survey data. The survey was carried out in January, February and March 1993 and refers to calendar year 1992. The Survey of Family Expenditure of 1992 is the first since 1990. The 1992 was designed to provide information for persons living in private households in the ten provinces of Canada as well as Whitehorse and Yellowknife. In contrast, the coverage of the 1990 survey only included 17 metropolitan areas in Canada. For confidentiality reasons, data from Charlottetown and Summerside were excluded from the 1990 file. Users should note that data on detailed food expenditure for 1992 were collected in a separate survey (see Statistics Canada Catalogue Number 62-554). The Food Survey had the same coverage as the Family Expenditure Survey of 1992. Records from Whitehorse and Yellowknife have been excluded from both the 1992 files.
