The yen continued to weaken against the pound in July 2025, as investors questioned the country's economic plans and recent developments in the global market. This is a different situation than in, for example, September 2022, when the UK government announced its plans to roll out trickle-down economics in the country — financial measures that would mostly benefit the wealthier parts of UK society and that would eventually “spill over” to other parts of the country. Such measures had been introduced before in the United Kingdom during the 1980s - when GDP did increase overall.
