Establish elevations for a network of monuments called benchmarks. A benchmark is a relatively permanent material object, natural or artificial, bearing a marked point whose elevation above or below an adopted datum is known. Vertical datums for referencing benchmark elevations are based on mean sea level. The basic vertical control for topographic mapping of the benchmarks or other points of known elevation established throughout a project, also termed basic control or level control. This data is all within the limits of the York Region Boundary and most were established approximately 20 years ago. Most are still considered accurate but it is suggested that they should be checked against other benchmarks to make sure.

The address points dataset is a based on information provided by local area municipalities within the Regional Municipality of York. Addresses may represent properties, individual buildings, and/or additional structures such as bus stops. The parcel fabric, Regional road network, and orthophotography may be used to help create the data. This data covers the entire Region of York and is updated on an ongoing basis.
