    Description

What is the most subscribed YouTube channel? MrBeast made the first place in the ranking of the most-subscribed YouTube channels in January 2025. With 343 million subscribers, the U.S. based videographer and internet personality managed to surpass Indian music network T-Series, which held the number one place for several years, and sat at 284 million subscriber as of the examined period. How many hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute? YouTube was launched in 2005 as a platform for sharing user-generated videos such as vlogs, tutorials, or original series. The site grew rapidly and reportedly had 100 million video views per day and more than 65 thousand daily uploads only a year later. As of February 2022, more than 500 hours of video were uploaded to YouTube every minute, up from a mere 24 hours of content uploads per minute in 2010. YouTube Partner Program In the first quarter of 2024, YouTube’s ad revenue amounted to over eight billion U.S. dollars. Through its Partner Program, YouTube also rewards uploaders of popular videos with a share of the advertising revenues the content generates. This, paired with the fact that many users of the video sharing platform tend to have favorite channels that they revisit regularly, has given rise to another phenomenon: YouTube celebrities. Although some of these well-known figures were discovered on the website but then carved a successful career outside of YouTube, for many others the site is their primary platform for delivering content and staying in contact with fans, all while signing lucrative deals or promotional partnerships. Highest earning YouTubers In November 2022, MrBeast surpassed long-standing most subscribed YouTuber PewDiePie, having reached approximately 112 million subscribers. Due to the high number of subscribers and even higher number of views, these out-of-the-box stars not only have millions of fans, but also considerable earnings from their YouTube activities. In 2023, MrBeast was estimated to have earned around 82 million U.S. dollars, topping the ranking of the highest-earning YouTube creators. The ranking also included social media personality Jake Paul and Mark Fischbach, as well as Ryan Kaji from Ryan's World (formerly known as ToysReview), who started his YouTube career reviewing toys at three years old.

    Description

YouTube remains a popular video streaming platform in the Philippines. Over the years, television networks have chosen to air their shows and entertainment programs on their YouTube channels. In fact, as of September 2024, the two leading YouTube channels in the Philippines were ABS-CBN Entertainment and GMA Network, with roughly 49.3 million and 36.3 million subscribers, respectively. Why are television networks investing in their YouTube presence? With about 58 million users, YouTube has undoubtedly captured the Filipino audience, which spends most of their time watching online videos and vlogs. Next to Google and Facebook, YouTube was among the most visited websites in the Philippines. As the number of Filipino YouTube viewers continues to grow, multiple television networks have decided to maximize this by creating a channel for their popular shows alongside news broadcasts. This was particularly strategic for ABS-CBN after losing its network franchise in 2020. Instead of completely losing its audience share, the company uploaded full episodes of its entertainment shows and movies and created a separate channel for its news segment. Its entertainment channel has the highest number of video views on YouTube as of September 2024. The rise of Supernova creators YouTube can continue to expect growth in the Philippines, especially with the growing number of creators and vloggers in the country. As of the same period, the Philippines had one of the highest numbers of supernova creators on YouTube, or those with over 10 million followers. Among the leading creators in the Philippines were celebrities such as Ivana Alawi, Zeinab Harake, Vice Ganda, and Francine Diaz, alongside CongTV, Doc Willie Ong, and Small Laude.

    Context

YouTube is an American online video-sharing platform headquartered in San Bruno, California. The service, created in February 2005 by three former PayPal employees—Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim—was bought by Google in November 2006 for US$1.65 billion and now operates as one of the company's subsidiaries. YouTube is the second most-visited website after Google Search, according to Alexa Internet rankings.

YouTube allows users to upload, view, rate, share, add to playlists, report, comment on videos, and subscribe to other users. Available content includes video clips, TV show clips, music videos, short and documentary films, audio recordings, movie trailers, live streams, video blogging, short original videos, and educational videos.

YouTube (the world-famous video sharing website) maintains a list of the top trending videos on the platform. According to Variety magazine, “To determine the year’s top-trending videos, YouTube uses a combination of factors including measuring users interactions (number of views, shares, comments, and likes). Note that they’re not the most-viewed videos overall for the calendar year”. Top performers on the YouTube trending list are music videos (such as the famously virile “Gangam Style”), celebrity and/or reality TV performances, and the random dude-with-a-camera viral videos that YouTube is well-known for.

This dataset is a daily record of the top trending YouTube videos.

Note that this dataset is a structurally improved version of this dataset.

    Description

The legal deposit of the audiovisual web is the part of the legal deposit which the legislator has entrusted to the National Audiovisual Institute (Law No 2006-961 of 1 August 2006 on copyright and related rights in the information society, known as the “DADVSI Law”). It started in February 2009 with the collection of websites (audiovisual media services and online public communication services) and since 2014 includes social networks (including Twitter accounts) linked to French audiovisual. As part of the creation of audiovisual thematic corpuses by Ina documentalists, a study on the online presence of reality TV shows was conducted between November 2020 and January 2021. For each identified reality show as well as for its participants and production companies, social media accounts, Youtube channels, Wikipedia pages, websites and hashtags have been identified. The dataset contains the completeness of these web objects and when available, documentary information and metrics (number of subscribers, number of subscriptions, etc.) as of January 2021. All the publications, videos associated with these accounts and the websites can only be consulted in the hands of the INA, the custodian of this legal deposit. The dataset is divided into 4 data sub-games: — “Depot_legal_du_web-_telealité-_emissions.csv” contains all web objects by reality show — “Depot_legal_du_web-_teleality-_participant.e.s.csv” contains all the web objects per participant — “Depot_legal_du_web-_teleality-_production.csv” contains all web objects per production company — “Depot_legal_du_web-_teleality-_dones_documentaires.csv” contains all documentary data and metrics by web objects — “Depot_legal_du_web-_teleality-_dones_documentary_dictionnaire.csv” contains a dictionary of the previous file. The re-use of personal data present in the data sets published by Ina constitutes the processing of personal data as defined by Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 known as the General Data Protection Regulation (the “GDPR”) and Law No 78-17 of 6 January 1978 on computing, files and freedoms as amended, together ‘the Data Protection Regulation’. The re-user is therefore subject to compliance with the legal framework resulting from the Data Protection Regulation in order to ensure that such re-use of personal data is lawful. In any event, Ina disclaims any liability for non-compliance by a re-user with the above-mentioned rules.

On June 17, 2016, Korean education brand Pinkfong released their video "Baby Shark Dance", and the rest is history. In January 2021, Baby Shark Dance became the first YouTube video to surpass 10 billion views, after snatching the crown of most-viewed YouTube video of all time from the former record holder "Despacito" one year before. "Baby Shark Dance" currently has over 15 billion lifetime views on YouTube. Music videos on YouTube “Baby Shark Dance” might be the current record-holder in terms of total views, but Korean artist Psy’s “Gangnam Style” video remained on the top spot for longest (1,689 days or 4.6 years) before ceding its spot to its successor. With figures like these, it comes as little surprise that the majority of the most popular videos on YouTube are music videos. Since 2010, all but one the most-viewed videos on YouTube have been music videos, signifying the platform’s shift in focus from funny, viral videos to professionally produced content. As of 2022, about 40 percent of the U.S. digital music audience uses YouTube Music. Popular video content on YouTube Music fans are also highly engaged audiences and it is not uncommon for music videos to garner significant amounts of traffic within the first 24 hours of release. Other popular types of videos that generate lots of views after their first release are movie trailers, especially superhero movies related to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). The first official trailer for the upcoming film “Avengers: Endgame” generated 289 million views within the first 24 hours of release, while the movie trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home generated over 355 views on the first day from release, making it the most viral movie trailer.
