    Description

ZCTAs are approximate area representations of U.S. Postal Service (USPS) 5-digit ZIP Code service areas that the Census Bureau creates using census blocks to present statistical data from censuses and surveys. The Census Bureau defines ZCTAs by allocating each block that contains addresses to a single ZIP Code tabulation area, usually to the ZCTA that reflects the most frequently occurring ZIP Code for the addresses within that block. Blocks that do not contain addresses but that are completely surrounded by a single ZIP Code tabulation area (enclaves) are assigned to the surrounding ZCTA; those surrounded by multiple ZCTAs will be added to a single ZCTA based on the longest shared border. The Census Bureau identifies ZCTAs using a 5-character code that represents the most frequently occurring USPS ZIP Code within that ZCTA. This code may contain leading zeros. Users should not use ZCTAs to identify the official USPS ZIP Code for mail delivery. The USPS makes periodic changes to ZIP Codes to support more efficient mail delivery. ZIP Codes that cover primarily nonresidential or post office box addresses may not have a corresponding ZCTA because the delineation process uses primarily residential addresses, resulting in a bias towards ZIP Codes used for city-style mail delivery.

U.S. ZIP Code Points represents the five-digit U.S. ZIP Code areas as points, plus all ZIP Codes that have no associated area such as post office box ZIP Codes and single site ZIP Codes (government, building, or large volume customer). Data has been filtered to only show data for Indiana. The points are sourced from TomTom (March 2023) and the population estimates are from Esri Demographics. This layer is updated annually.

    Description

Tabular data representing library and library branch locations was downloaded from the Indiana State Library (https://www.in.gov/library/directory-of-indiana-libraries/pldirectory/). Two spreadsheets were downloaded from this site, PL-Mailing-Addresses.xls, and PL-Branch-Directory.xls. Each spreadsheet was separately geocoded by IGIO staff, and any unmatched addresses were manually placed. Both datasets were then combined using the "Merge" tool in ArcGIS Pro before publishing. Attributes include the library name, branch name (when applicable), full address (address, city, state, and ZIP code), street address, mailing address (when applicable), city, state, ZIP code, library director name, and date updated by the State Library. This layer's default symbology is the same symbol with a different size and color for libraries versus branches. Library locations are larger (12 pt size) and blue, and branches are smaller (10 pt size) and purple.

    Description

INDUSTRIAL_PARKS_INDOT_IN is a point shapefile that shows industrial park locations in Indiana. It is derived from data provided by personnel of the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).This data set is a composite of data obtained from different sources. For some facilities, the source of locational data is unknown. For other facilities, address matching was used to obtain locations. And in some places, the centriods of zip-code areas and (or) counties are used. Consequently, points may be located several miles from the actual facility. Therefore, this data set is intended for general use only, and is not intended to replace an on-the-ground survey.

The shapefiles contain data about the following features: Line Featuresroads, railroads, hydrography, and transportation and utility lines. Boundary Featuresstatistical (e.g., census tracts and blocks); government (e.g., places and counties); and administrative (e.g., congressional and school districts).Landmark Featurespoint (e.g., schools and churches); area (e.g., parks and cemeteries); and key geographic locations (e.g., apartment buildings and factories). The shapefiles do not contain:Zip Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs).Current address range information as reflected in the Master Address File (MAF).Corrections to naming of some geographic entities, including voting districts and school districts, and attributes such as Place Description Codes (PLACEDC) and Legal/Statistical Area Description Codes (LSADC).This updated Census information for the 2000 TIGER/Line files is available from the U.S. Census Bureau at the following web site url: http://www.census.gov/geo/www/tiger/tiger2k/tgr2000.htmlThe U.S. Census Bureau also provides GENERALIZED cartographic boundary files for many of their geographies. Electric Service Territories (IURC) - Shows the Electric Service Territory (EST) boundaries in Indiana, maintained by personnel of the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC). This layer is "live" and synchronized to automatically update whenever IURC personnel establish new boundaries. The layer was created to visually represent, as accurately as possible, the electric service territories served by the regulated electric service providers in the state of Indiana, pursuant to Cause Number 42868 (Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission) to establish an online GIS mapping environment to house, edit, and display visual interpretations or electric service territory rulings filed before and ruled by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. The data represented in this layer is strictly a visual aide and a best interpretation of the legally approved Electric Service Territories as ruled by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC). These data are not legally binding or necessarily fully representative of the legal rulings. The following is excerpted from metadata provided by the IURC: "IN THE MATTER OF THE JOINT PETITION OF ELECTRICITY SUPPLIERS FOR (1) THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE PROCEDURES TO APPROVE SERVICE AREA BOUNDARY AGREEMENTS UNDER IC 8-1-2.3-6(2) AND SERVICE CONSENTS UNDER IC 8-1-2.3-4(A), AND (2) MODIFICATION OF THE FORM AND MAINTENANCE OF MAPS OF ASSIGNED SERVICE AREAS ESTABLISHED PURSUANT TO IC 8-1-2.3-1, ET SEQ. AND THE COMMISSION'S FEBRUARY 19, 1981 ORDER IN CAUSE NO. 36299"
