    This layer represents ZIP Code outlines for the state of North Carolina. The counties are stored as polygons.

    A ZIP Code is a five digit numeric code that identifies a collection of mailing addresses within the United States and its territories to simplify the distribution of mail by the United States Postal Service (USPS).

    A ZIP Code is a delivery sort sequence and the USPS does not associate an area with each ZIP Code. Said another way, ZIP Codes are lists of addresses for delivering the mail. They are not areas. However, many ZIP Codes have delivery areas, and some ZIP Codes are for buildings or campuses that have defined borders. Boundaries can also be created by grouping small areas (defined by the U.S. Bureau of the Census for their nationwide street map) based on the dominant ZIP Code of the addresses in each small area, but this is an approximation because carrier routes may overlap and portions of the country have no deliverable addresses. The ZIP Code areas often do not adhere to boundaries of cities, towns, counties, or states.

    The 2020 TIGER/Line Shapefiles contain current geographic extent and boundaries of both legal and statistical entities (which have no governmental standing) for the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Island areas. This vintage includes boundaries of governmental units that match the data from the surveys that use 2020 geography (e.g., 2020 Population Estimates and the 2020 American Community Survey). In addition to geographic boundaries, the 2020 TIGER/Line Shapefiles also include geographic feature shapefiles and relationship files. Feature shapefiles represent the point, line and polygon features in the MTDB (e.g., roads and rivers). Relationship files contain additional attribute information users can join to the shapefiles.     This dataset is an updated version of the 2008 dataset containing all public school locations in North Carolina. New schools were geocoded in ArcGIS 10 and merged with the existing dataset. Closed schools were removed,and existing attribute information was updated with current data. Some new fields were added, including designations for Pre-K, Elementary, Middle, High, and Early College schools. A review process was performed to move incorrect existing school points to new correct locations. Not all points were able to be individually reviewed,and may represent approximate school locations. This update was a collaborative effort among the Center for Geographic Information and Analysis, Institute for Transportation Research and Education, and NC Department of Public Instruction. Current school data was provided by NC DPI, using the Educational Directory and Demographical Information Exchange (EDDIE), found at http://apps.schools.nc.gov/eddie. ITRE used this dataset to conduct the update process, which included all steps of GIS analysis listed above. CGIA consulted on processing steps, lineage, and quality control to prepare the dataset for the NC OneMap Geospatial Portal.

    GeoJunxion‘s ZIP+4 is a complete dataset based on US postal data consisting of plus 35 millions of polygons​. The dataset is NOT JUST a table of spot data, which can be downloaded as csv or other text file as it happens with other suppliers​. The data can be delivered as shapefile through a single RAW data delivery or through an API​.

    The January 2021 USPS data source has significantly changed since the previous delivery. Some States have sizably lower ZIP+4 totals across all counties when compared with previous deliveries due to USPS parcelpoint cleanup, while other States have a significant increase in ZIP+4 totals across all counties due to cleanup and other rezoning. California and North Carolina in particular have several new ZIP5s, contributing to the increase in distinct ZIPs and ZIP+4s​.

    GeoJunxion‘s ZIP+4 data can be used as an additional layer on an existing map to run customer or other analysis, e.g. who is my customer who not, what is the density of my customer base in a certain ZIP+4 etc.

    Information can be put into visual context, due to the polygons, which is good for complex overviews or management decisions. ​CRM data can be enriched with the ZIP+4 to have more detailed customer information​.

    North Carolina Effective Flood zones: In 2000, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) designated North Carolina a Cooperating Technical Partner State, formalizing an agreement between FEMA and the State to modernize flood maps. This partnership resulted in creation of the North Carolina Floodplain Mapping Program (NCFMP). As a CTS, the State assumed primary ownership and responsibility of the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for all North Carolina communities as part of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). This project includes conducting flood hazard analyses and producing updated, Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRMs). Floodplain management is a process that aims to achieve reduced losses due to flooding. It takes on many forms, but is realized through a series of federal, state, and local programs and regulations, in concert with industry practice, to identify flood risk, implement methods to protect man-made development from flooding, and protect the natural and beneficial functions of floodplains.     Description

    This edition of the Congressional District Atlas on DVD contains maps and tables that reflect the boundaries and geographic relationships for the 108th Congressional Districts. There are three map types included: individual congressional district maps, state-based congressional district maps, and a national congressional district map. The tables show the relationship of congressional districts to counties and county equivalents, incorporated places and census designated places (including cons olidated cities), county subdivisions (for 18 states), American Indian areas, census tracts, ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs), urban and rural population and land area, and school districts. The maps are in PDF format and tables are in both PDF and TEXT format. A browser-based interface for accessing maps and tables is included on the DVD.

    Note to Users: This DVD is part of a collection located in the Data Archive of the Odum Institute for Research in Social Science, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The collection is located in Room 10, Manning Hall. Users may check the CDs out subscribing to the honor system. Items can be checked out for a period of two weeks. Loan forms are located adjacent to the collection.

    This CD consists of the Tiger/Line files corresponding to North Carolina (Alamance to Stokes Counties). The TIGER/Line files contain information which describes the points, lines, and areas on Census Bureau maps. The files are extracts of selected geographic and cartographic data from the Census Bureau's Census TIGERTM (Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing) System which is used to support mapping and other geographic activities of its decennial census and sample survey programs. The TIGER/Line files provide information on streets, rivers, railroads, and other line features, where they intersect and the areas they enclose, in a form that can be processed by a computer. TIGER/Line records contain latitude/longitude coordinates, codes identifying census geographic areas, and address ranges and ZIP CodesR. While these files contain geographic data, they are not maps or geographic information systems by themselves. Users must first import or reformat the data into an application system or software. TIGER/Line, 1992 replaces the earlier version -- TIGER/Line Files, 1990. TIGER/Line, 1992 extends the address range and ZIP Code coverage by 60 percent, identifies several new geographic areas, and includes viewing software. New Address Ranges and ZIP Codes -- Additional potential address ranges and ZIP Codes have been added based upon a match with the 1990 Census master address list. This expands the coverage to include over 80 million residential addresses (earlier versions covered only about 50 million addresses). New Geographic Areas -- TIGER/Line, 1992 adds codes for new geographic areas such as congressional districts (as of the 103rd Congress), 1990 Urbanized Areas, school districts, and new cities and towns incorporated since the 1990 Census. Viewing Software - LandViewTM, a public domain software developed by the Environmental Protection Agency, is added to this newest version of TIGER/Line. Up to 14 separate files, each corresponding to a TIGER/Line, 1992 record type, are provided for each county. A st Directory and individu al cty Subdirectories (where st = Federal Information Processing Standard [FIPS] State Code and cty = FIPS County Code) are used to store the county file sets on the disc.     Description

    The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. County subdivisions are the primary divisions of counties and their equivalent entities for the reporting of Census Bureau data. They include legally-recognized minor civil divisions (MCDs) and statistical census county divisions (CCDs), and unorganized territories. For the 2010 Census, the MCDs are the primary governmental and/or administrative divisions of counties in 29 States and Puerto Rico; Tennessee changed from having CCDs for Census 2000 to having MCDs for the 2010 Census. In MCD States where no MCD exists or is not defined, the Census Bureau creates statistical unorganized territories to complete coverage. The entire area of the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Island Areas are covered by county subdivisions. The boundaries of most legal MCDs are as of January 1, 2022, as reported through the Census Bureau's Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS). The boundaries of all CCDs, delineated in 21 states, are those as reported as part of the Census Bureau's Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP) for the 2020 Census.

    The 2020 TIGER/Line Shapefiles contain current geographic extent and boundaries of both legal and statistical entities (which have no governmental standing) for the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Island areas. This vintage includes boundaries of governmental units that match the data from the surveys that use 2020 geography (e.g., 2020 Population Estimates and the 2020 American Community Survey). In addition to geographic boundaries, the 2020 TIGER/Line Shapefiles also include geographic feature shapefiles and relationship files. Feature shapefiles represent the point, line and polygon features in the MTDB (e.g., roads and rivers). Relationship files contain additional attribute information users can join to the shapefiles. Both the feature shapefiles and relationship files reflect updates made in the database through September 2020.     This CD consists of the TIGER/Line Census Files, 1990. The type of File is geographic. The 1990 Census TIGER/Line file is an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the Census Bureau's TIGER data base. The Census Bureau is releasing the 1990 Census TIGER/Line files to provide data users with the final 1990 census boundaries (including voting districts) and to support the 1990 Census Data Products Program. The 1990 Census TIGER/Line file provides digital data for all 1 990 census map features and boundaries, the associated 1990 census final tabulation geographic area codes (such as 1990 census block numbers), and the codes for the January 1, 1990 legal and statistical areas on both sides of each line segment of every mapped feature. This version also contains the final voting district codes and the 1990 census designated place codes. The 1990 Census TIGER/Line file contains basic information for 1990 census geographic area codes, basic map features and their names, and address ranges in the form of 12 'Record Types.' The record types are as follows: 1. Basic Data Records (Individual Feature Segment Records) 2. Shape Coordinate Points (Feature Shape Records) 3. Additional Decennial Census Geographic Area Codes 4. Record Number Range Each segment record contains appropriate decennial census and, when appropriate, FIPS(1) geographic area codes, latitude/longitude coordinates for all line segments and point features, the name of the feature Geographic Coverage: The 1990 Census TIGER/Line files cover the entire United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands of the United States, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, the other Pacific entities that were part of the Trust Territo ry of the United States for the 1980 census (the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia), and the Midway Islands (to provide complete mapping within the boundaries of the State of Hawaii). The data in the 1990 Census TIGER/Line files include information comparable to what was in the 1980 GBF/DIME-Files, which covered roughly 2 percent of the land area of the United States. The remaining 98 percent of the land area has been added using data that originated with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) based on the 1:100,000-scale USGS maps, supplemented with Census Bureau-compiled information and from other USGS map sheets.
