A crosswalk dataset matching US ZIP codes to corresponding county codes
The denominators used to calculate the address ratios are the ZIP code totals. When a ZIP is split by any of the other geographies, that ZIP code is duplicated in the crosswalk file.
**Example: **ZIP code 03870 is split by two different Census tracts, 33015066000 and 33015071000, which appear in the tract column. The ratio of residential addresses in the first ZIP-Tract record to the total number of residential addresses in the ZIP code is .0042 (.42%). The remaining residential addresses in that ZIP (99.58%) fall into the second ZIP-Tract record.
So, for example, if one wanted to allocate data from ZIP code 03870 to each Census tract located in that ZIP code, one would multiply the number of observations in the ZIP code by the residential ratio for each tract associated with that ZIP code.

County definition
In the United States, a county is an administrative or political subdivision of a state that consists of a geographic region with specific boundaries and usually some level of governmental authority. This dataset was created to help users to go between County - State Name, State-County FIPS, City, or to ZIP Code. Most importantly, this dataset was created because we shouldn't have to pay for free & public data.
Assumptions - HUD uses the most up to date Zip Code boundaries from the USPS when they post their new Quarterly data. *ZIP Codes are updated on a regular basis. Here is an example announcement from the USPS. - City data only available from 2018 onward.

This dataset is part of the Geographical repository maintained by Opendatasoft. It's been built from the ground up using authoritative sources including the U.S. Postal Service™, U.S. Census Bureau, National Weather Service, American Community Survey, and the IRS.Contains most USPS zip codes (lat/long).
Zip code data includes polygons and labels representing zipcode boundaries in Buncombe County as defined by the United States Postal Service. These boundaries represent the five-digit ZIP Code areas used by the U.S. Postal Service to deliver mail more effectively.
BY USING THIS WEBSITE OR THE CONTENT THEREIN, YOU AGREE TO THE TERMS OF USE. The boundaries were digitized based on legal descriptions from the US Postal Service. The date of the legal descriptions is unknown. Zip code areas for which a legal description could not be obtained were digitized using the zip code contained in the site address from the August, 2009 Oakland County tax parcel feature class. The key attribute is Zip.

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs) are approximate area representations of U.S. Postal Service (USPS) ZIP Code service areas that the Census Bureau creates to present statistical data for each decennial census. The Census Bureau delineates ZCTA boundaries for the United States, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands once each decade following the decennial census. Data users should not use ZCTAs to identify the official USPS ZIP Code for mail delivery. The USPS makes periodic changes to ZIP Codes to support more efficient mail delivery. The Census Bureau uses tabulation blocks as the basis for defining each ZCTA. Tabulation blocks are assigned to a ZCTA based on the most frequently occurring ZIP Code for the addresses contained within that block. The most frequently occurring ZIP Code also becomes the five-digit numeric code of the ZCTA. These codes may contain leading zeros. Blocks that do not contain addresses but are surrounded by a single ZCTA (enclaves) are assigned to the surrounding ZCTA. Because the Census Bureau only uses the most frequently occurring ZIP Code to assign blocks, a ZCTA may not exist for every USPS ZIP Code. Some ZIP Codes may not have a matching ZCTA because too few addresses were associated with the specific ZIP Code or the ZIP Code was not the most frequently occurring ZIP Code within any of the blocks where it exists. The ZCTA boundaries in this release are those delineated following the 2010 Census.
U.S. ZIP Code Areas (Five-Digit) represents five-digit ZIP Code areas used by the U.S. Postal Service to deliver mail more effectively. The first digit of a five-digit ZIP Code divides the United States into 10 large groups of states numbered from 0 in the Northeast to 9 in the far West. Within these areas, each state is divided into an average of 10 smaller geographical areas, identified by the second and third digits. These digits, in conjunction with the first digit, represent a sectional center facility or a mail processing facility area. The fourth and fifth digits identify a post office, station, branch or local delivery area.Note: Polygon centroids (Lng/Lat) added by Bexar County GIS 9/11/2018.
ZIP Code Business Patterns (ZBP) is an annual series that provides economic data by ZIP Code. This table includes the number of establishments, employment during the week of March 12, first quarter payroll, and annual payroll for All Industries by 5-digit ZIP Code. For many countries lat/lng are determined with an algorithm that searches the place names in the main geonames database using administrative divisions and numerical vicinity of the postal codes as factors in the disambiguation of place names. For postal codes and place name for which no corresponding toponym in the main geonames database could be found an average lat/lng of 'neighbouring' postal codes is calculated. Please let us know if you find any errors in the data set. ThanksFor Canada we have only the first letters of the full postal codes (for copyright reasons)For Ireland we have only the first letters of the full postal codes (for copyright reasons)For Malta we have only the first letters of the full postal codes (for copyright reasons)The Argentina data file contains 4-digit postal codes which were replaced with a new system in 1999.For Brazil only major postal codes are available (only the codes ending with -000 and the major code per municipality). For India the lat/lng accuracy is not yet comparable to other countries.Update frequency: 1 month

This tool--a simple csv or Stata file for merging--gives you a fast way to assign Census county FIPS codes to variously presented county names. This is useful for dealing with county names collected from official sources, such as election returns, which inconsistently present county names and often have misspellings. It will likely take less than ten minutes the first time, and about one minute thereafter--assuming all versions of your county names are in this file. There are about 3,142 counties in the U.S., and there are 77,613 different permutations of county names in this file (ave=25 per county, max=382). Counties with more likely permutations have more versions. Misspellings were added as I came across them over time. I DON'T expect people to cite the use of this tool. DO feel free to suggest the addition of other county name permutations.
